Best Indie Rock Bands

This is a music that i enjoy when i'm sick of listening reggae, so i don't
usually research about bands on internet cause there's some many, a friend of mine made me listen to great bands like Muse, Placebo, Interama, The Coral, Elbow that they are all british so i found that he doesn't know any american band.
Well maybe The Dandy Warhols, Sonic Youth and that's it, so i will apreciate if you guys help me with some US band names

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are nice too, i have listened to the Radiohead last one, very tripppy, Silverchair have become indie rock too i think

I only know Los Alamos and El Robot Bajo El Agua from those, i'm gonna check the others right now, i just wanted to add Black Rebel Motorcycle club and Morphine.
