Riots, instability spread as food prices skyrocket

(CNN) -- Riots from Haiti to Bangladesh to Egypt over the soaring costs of basic foods have brought the issue to a boiling point and catapulted it to the forefront of the world's attention, the head of an agency focused on global development said Monday.

The only simple way to solve this problem is to continue to raise the gas price. By the way, help yourself to anything in my fridge and cupboard. Just dont wreck my precious little home.

Haiti actually isn't short of food. Unfortunately, its caught up in bureaucracy in their ports.

The article also seems to stress countries that are known for exponentially growing populations, huge poverty rates, and lousy government infrastructure. Of course the shit will hit the fan when the world economy has a downturn.

And as much as you want to take a shot at Big Oil and Bush, food production is actually something like 8x a bigger industry than oil (which isn't even a top 5 industry) and those companies have never seemed too interested in addressing the issue.

I remember a while ago on the other message board we were talking about oil prices and I said that the rising oil prices would probably cause the price of everything to go up because everybody uses it it's like a basic commodity or whatever and somebody (I THINK PREECHR PROBABLY) called me stupid and said, "THAT'LL NEVER HAPPEN!."

JUST WANTED TO BRING IT UP.

Eh, I noticed a while ago that when the beluga ban was lifted in the US, the ebay caviar market shot up in supply and I could get some for really cheap from sketchy Russians. Since I first buckled down and got kopi luwak, I haven't made the time to take advantage of a food market that seems untainted by such economic caprice.
