This game actually looks neat as hell.

THAR BE A VIDEO AT THIS LINK

It's described as a "first-person action/adventure" with an emphasis on exploration. There are martial arts and guns involved, but supposedly, they take a back seat to tearing around rooftops in a future dystopian society. So they've got me pegged on the cyberpunk shit, too.

Kudos to EA for trying something new! I'm really digging the art style and the music :o

I've read about this game before, and it sounds pretty cool, but it could so easily be done wrong. For a game that relies so much on quick thinking, good timing and constant movement, they're gonna need to give it some damn solid controls. And they're also gonna have to make sure it doesn't get boring after 2 hours of jumping over the same skyscrapers and obstacles. It could simply go wrong in so many ways, so I won't allow myself to have too high hopes.

Well, if you watched the video, she's in the subway, jumping down an elevator shaft, along catwalks in a building, in addition to the skyscrapers and such.

I think what really took me is that a modern high-graphics game has shades of color other than brown & grey ;>

I can't stand trying to do PoP platforming in a first person view :<

It was awful in Thief and time has not erased that memory from me

I loved Thief.

Guitar Woman

I do too, but I really can't count the number of times I fell to my death because the game decided I didn't deserve to grab hold of the ledge I jumped at :<

It might be better here since the game is specifically built around monkeying about in high places, but at this point it's become sort of a phobia

Thief III was for the Xbox, otherwise they were on the PC.

Old ass games.

I thought this was a PS3 exclusive when I first read about it (it's under playstation 3 news at Kotaku), but since it's coming out for PC and 360 as well, I'll probably be getting it on PC.

I really like the fact that the objects you're supposed to interact with have a brighter hue. I'm sure playing a game like this without that sort of treatment might get a little maddening during some tougher parts.

The use of First-person reminds me of Breakdown on the original Xbox.

Breakdown was a good one.

This looks pretty damn awesome. I'm a little afraid it might start to get repetitive, you know, like just run, jump, climb, knock down a guard, etc. Here's hoping it doesn't.

Finally a legitamately new looking premise for a game. Hopefully it lives up to the hype and the PS network movie....

So the whole game is like the part in Assassin's Creed after the actual assassination?

Dimnos
Jul 16th, 2008, 01:58 PM
Yea im with LordSappington, Looks great and i cant wait to try it out but im worried its going to be real repetitive. Rooftop level then sewer level then... And whats the "great art" the sites you guys are linking talking about? Looks like some really clean graphics but art? Some building, doors, pipes, cops, shotguns, sewers... nothing i would call "art". Still looks real fun.

oh don't go there dimnos, wrong forum

video game art refers to just the visuals in the game. and i guess if you want to take it into more "artsy fartsy" terms then it is "visually pleasing" art rather than conceptually compelling

Dimnos
Jul 17th, 2008, 02:24 PM
So a 3D rendered pipe that looks like every other pipe you have ever seen is art? Im not saying it has to be "artsy fartsy" or whatever, and im all for video game making as an art and maybe even video game playing to be an art, but the rendered images on the screen alone dont make art.

I am so pumped for this game. From what I have been reading, all that jumping, grabbing pipes, bouncing around and other shit is actually sort of challenging, the player in the videos is just really good. Like it doesn't automatically have your character gravitate towards the nearest foothold like in prince of persia or whatever, so its totally set up for MAXIMUM IMMERSION.

Having all the cut scenes in 2D cartoons sounds like a good way to get me to actually watch cinematics too.

The demo is out but somebody better describe it to me because you fucking need a live gold membership to download a non-multiplayer demo.

OxBlood

If you watched the Footage from earlier this year, showing the character running around on roofs, you know how the demo is like, because it is exactly that part of the game. That and a little tutorial.
Apart from the obvious jumping, running, wallrunning, swinging on bars, climbing obstacles, etc., you can also fight a bit. Punches, slide-kicks and jumpkicks are there, as well as disarming-maneuvers and bullet-time which builds by running around. It´s more or less a fun experience so far, but I also read that the game is just about 5 or 6 hours long and the plot is apparently not very good. But that´s just one Mag, what do they know...

Fun, but kinda meh. I'm not going to say I'm not going to get game because I'm bad at it, but man. I was screwing up and messing up the whole time. I failed the part in the tut where you jump, spin 180, and grab the ledge, even though I did it better than that bitch Celeste. And I'll tell you right now, she betrays you. Bet you a dollar.
