Check it out:

We've got a lot of people discussing it on diablofans.com (http://www.diablofans.com) and it's definitely looking like it will be an announcement for a new Diablo game.

Players last visited Northrend in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne™, when Arthas Menethil fused with the spirit of Ner'zhul to become the Lich King, one of the most powerful beings in the Warcraft universe. He now broods atop the Frozen Throne deep in Icecrown Citadel, clutching the rune blade Frostmourne and marshaling the undead armies of the Scourge. In Wrath of the Lich King, the forces of the Alliance and the Horde will venture into battle against the Scourge amid Northrend's howling winds and fields of jagged ice.
Sorry.

It will probably be Blizzard announcing the release date for the next WoW expanstion (Wrath of the Lich King).
The World-Wide Invitational tournament that Blizzard is hosting this weekend is primarily for WoW Arena competitions.
Diablo 3 will not be announced until Starcraft 2 is nearly out the door because Blizzard does not compete with itself.

I've read some convincing reasons why it's Diablo 3 on some other message boards (the symbols in the ice match the runes in Diablo 2, for example), so I guess it's not impossible that they'll be announcing Diablo 3.
But even if it is, it won't be out for like 10 years.

I dunno if I like the way it looks. It looks too much like WoW and warcraft 3; too cartoonish. Everyone bitching about the graphics resembling WoW is retarded. The Diablo and Diablo 2 were sprite based. A 3D game isn't going to look the same. I don't see much resemblance in any of the screenshots, and some of the arguments I've seen so far are a huge stretch. Diablo 3 has candles! Warcraft has candles, too! Don't make Diablo 3 like Warcraft! WTF?
And I gotta say that 99% of the people on DiabloFans are huge fags.

Lol
"Blaming the influence of “World of Warcraft,” the petitioners complain that the game is too “cartoon’ish” with “unrealistic elements” and “outside scenarios with vivid colors, beautiful forests with colorful vegetation, shinny [sic] and beautiful waterfalls where even rainbows take place.” (The petitioners have a full laundry list of complaints and suggestions here (http://www.petitiononline.com/d3art/petition.html).)"

Call me crazy, but I think the people who actually developed the games know their own franchise better than a bunch of basement dwellers, let alone basement dwellers dumb enough to think that signing an internet petition will actually do anything.
I think the visuals are just fine. I never touched the franchise myself (not my cup of tea) but they're showing some pretty solid stuff right now, so I can only imagine that the final build will be even better.

Color is for babies. Real men stick to two blackish colors.
But yea, I like the top ones more. The consideration of color is really careful, as opposed to the bottom ones, where you can't see shit in the graveyard. Scary? Sure. Conducive to the gaming experience? Not likely.
They're both nice I guess, but if I wanted realism, I'd go outside, not to Diablo. Maybe modders can lend a hand to the butthurt fans when the game comes out and we can all be happy.
Tadao
Jul 3rd, 2008, 06:06 PM
I'm guessing it's all related to the story and scare factor. They already let out that they are trying to master the creepiness factor so they may start a little bright in the beginning and then dim the lights at the right places. I'm sure Blizzard will let us know before they put out the game because they like to give us little hints here and there that aren't misleading.

I got to about the sixth floor, or around wherever the crypt opens up so you don't have to go through all the other floors to get to the new one, then got bored of my endless repetition of "killing horde of undead and taking shit from chests" and quit. If you want some sort of CONFESSION I will say that it's pretty awesome to walk into a room so full of skeletons that you can't even move and then cut all of them to pieces, but only for the first 20 or so times.
I admit that I died right away, several times, because it took me a while to realize that Warrior is the only useable class.

Also, I just watched both trailers, and the outdoor areas do remind me a lot of WoW in terms of artsy fartsy shit. Not that that's a HORRIBLE THING OH GOD, I don't mind WoW's art style. And the little I saw of Diablo 1, it got progressively nastier as I descended, so I assume Blizzard's going to be doing that with this, too, if you fags who are worried it'll be too cartoony can be comforted.
I also admit that I thought the chick in the prerendered cinematic trailer was hot :<

Is this like Silent Hill 2, Splatterhouse, and Mass Effect, where I got a joke version of the game that some jerk planted for me to play?
Also I remember enjoying a similar game released by Eidos where instead of endlessly using the same attack over and over again you could actually string combos together and create your own spells with talismens and shit. Full 3D enemies with detachable limbs who all whithered awesomely when they died, and really cool environments that were so huge I actually got lost a few times. I think you could also man up with other fags over the internet as different characters from the game, but I only played the demo so I'm not really sure. I forget what it was called, but I have no idea why it was never popular and Diablo has LEGIONS of rabid fanboys ready to tear me limb from limb when I call their game simplistic and repetitive.

I played Diablo for like, 7 hours before boredom overcame me. That's a long time to spend with something you hate.
You keep going on about how I have no SKILL, like someone who refuses to play Smash Bros with items turned on, but all it takes to be sucessful in Diablo is clicking on something you want dead until it falls into little bitty pieces and then moving on to the next creeping monstrosity and repeating yourself ad-verbatim, all the while drip feeding yourself with restore health potions so you don't fall over dead. If things get really bad you might have to teleport back to town and re-stock yourself with the shit before you resume the murder.
Clearly, this is an incredibly deep and strategic experience, and I have no idea what I'm speaking of.
Also, if you're not enraged by what I'm saying, why are you bringing personal attacks into the equation, Zomboid?
WELL, YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY CRAZY AND HAVE CRAFTED SOME FANTASY IN YOUR HEAD ABOUT THINGS AND BLAH BLAH BLAH. ALSO YOU JUST REALLY SUCK AT THE GAME, THAT'S WHY YOU HATE IT.

The idea was that when I said Diablo was a hulking pile of puke you acted like you wanted to murder me and subsequently mutilate my body.
Which I've found to be standard fare amongst Blizzard fans.
Anyway, guys, we should totally play Revenant sometime. It's awesome.
I've actually got a copy of Revenent in my desk drawer, but the cd is somehow messed up and when I install it it's missing files. Shame; great game.
I still kinda prefer Diablo, though, and the WoW look makes me pissed off. Warcraft 3 looked dumb enough as is; don't drag Diablo into the depths of gay.

i will only play games that are brown and grey, for as long as I shall live, because i hear that's what the real world looks like.
diablo 1 required no strategy and was a click-fest. diablo 2 was a loot-based game that requires only enough strategy to decide what it is you're going to wear to prom.

Games don't always have to be completely complicated and have god knows how many play strategies and all that to be fun you know. I never hear you complain about Street Fighter or River City Ransom. OMG BUTTON MASHFEST

What the hell? Who ever claimed that either of those games require no strategy?

diablo needed some strategy, esp. if you got the butcher quest right at the start :/

I just found a wall with gates and a door, closed the door and fired arrows at his face.
And Chojin, I wasn't saying anyone did say that. I'm saying that there are other games out there considered to be the best games ever, and those aren't ragged on for lack of strategy.
Also, anyone remember that blind guy who dominated on Mortal Kombat; Fatal1ty? How the hell did he play the game?
Chojin

Fatal1ty isn't blind, and everyone with half a brain does make fun of games that require no skill to play.
Hope you had fun at Otakon, what did you get in the dealer's room? ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

I'm also sure Johnathan Wendel is a Quake dude, too.
I wonder if he's any good at Enemy Territories.

If it isn't Fatal1ty, then who is it? I KNOW I heard about some obscenely awesome blind Kombat player.

Like Mortal Kombat is impossible to play, you just crouch in the fucking corner and uppercut for 2 minutes.
I've said this a few times before but Mortal Kombat is also horrible.

Yeah, I was never impressed with it either; I like fighting games that are more fluid and actually have real combos, like DOA.
The jubblies help, too.
But still, you'd have to be damn impressed if there IS a blind Kombat master.

Sappington, I'm to call bullshit in your lumping of the Street Fighter series, and to a lesser extent, River City Ranson, into a group classic games that require no stratedgy and are basically button mashers. If you actually played one of the games on a high difficulty or against a good player online, you'd know that button mashing is a good way to get the shit kicked out of you.

That's why I've never played Street Fighter or KoF against my friends. I can't even compete.

I beat a guy at Soul Calibur once by button-mashing. He got really pissed off and refused to play me again because he thought he was really good and had memorized like every special combo move or something.

I have River City Ransom on my comp, and all it took for ME on Hard was button mash, retreat, button mash, retreat, etc.

That is a strategy. I used to use it in 6th grade a lot. Flail arms around and kick and then run, repeat.

I've come up with a viable strategy for soul calibur IV. I only play against people who are good with my main chars. If I'm playing someone new or someone who just mashes button I play with someone I'm unfamiliar with.

Also I am happy for this, as I don't give a shit about melee classes. Plus, you know, slowing time down and creating ethereal clones of yourself.

Scroll down with the mouse wheel. I thought it was some code I had to break at first, like they were putting it in DIABLO TIME or something and only the biggest nerds would be able to watch the video.
