Strangely, Opera doesn't give me any ads.

Guitar Woman
Jul 12th, 2008, 05:02 PM
it's not an ad, I'm actually being redirected to a spam page by the site.

Am I the only one? Does this site hate me THAT MUCH? :(

I haven't had any problems with that on my pc:)

You probably have malware on your system. Run an AVG scan.

Seriously. I'm on the forums on this computer and my work PC, and neither one has ever redirected me anywhere.

I also suffer from redirection. This site hates me, but that's okay. If I wanted to be loved I definately wouldn't come to I-MOCKERY.

Not my computer, so I'm off to download internet porn!

Maybe it's because you download pirated software you little shit. Stop blaming it on the forums.

That was aimed at GW, porn is just fine by me.

Guitar Woman
Jul 12th, 2008, 06:25 PM
well, it only does it on this site, and anyone who has the appropriate half of their brain could put two and two together and assume that I-Mock is doing it.

I'll do what MM said and if problems persist I'll just get a new browser

MetalMilitia

Firefox 3 + adblock and you'll be fine.

That actually happened to me today at home and I have the new firefox. It had a red spam alert.

If you guys keep experiencing this, please look into what ads are up at the top of the page at the time. Take a screenshot of it if possible. Because if it's happening while you're on the forums, there's only one ad at the top of the page at a time, and it could be some shitty ad that snuck in through Google's Adsense program (my ads default to Google when my primary ad network doesn't have any more ads to serve at the time). If we can narrow it down to what ad contains the redirect, we can make sure it gets eliminated from whoever is serving it.

That being said, I've yet to experience this problem and I'm on this site countless times a day.

Guitar Woman
Jul 12th, 2008, 09:35 PM
the thing is, it usually redirects me before anything on the page loads, but I'll be sure to screencap it if I can.

Yeah, I've had the same thing happen to me exactly per GW's original post. I'm on what I assume is the newest version of FF.

Kitsa
Jul 13th, 2008, 10:50 AM
I'm on the latest version of firefox and run scans all the time, and it's happened to me once. My window just inexplicably got hijacked to some sort of "WANT ANTI SPYWARE SOFTWARE? OKAY? YOU SAID YES, RIGHT? OKAY! HERE IT COMES!" that actually had a (probably fake) download bar. I couldn't get rid of it even with an end-task. I'll try to screencap if it does it again.

That's odd that it's only happening to some of us. I don't suffer it, I use Adblock like MM.

My computer just informed me that it protected me from a malicious attempt at accessing my computer from a remote IP address. I can check the address in the log and post it if you think it might help.

I disabled a bunch of ads from a network that might be the culprit, but since this has never happened to me I can't be sure if it will do the trick. Lemme know if any of you experience the problem again, and please try to get a screenshot of the problematic ad if possible.

Worst I have ever experienced on this site is the occasional "10 millionth visiter" pop-up. All I had to do was use the series of adware/spyware removal programs I use and it stopped. Haven't seen the pop up in a couple of years though.

Guitar Woman
Jul 14th, 2008, 09:29 AM
Rog, you must have gotten rid of whatever was causing this, because it hasn't happened to me since Saturday.

Zomboid
Jul 14th, 2008, 11:48 AM
Oddly enough, it happens whenever I come into this thread.

And closing that one leads to this one opening up:

You probably want to also check what ad banner is being shown at the top of the page. That message box in the first screenshot is originating from Javascript from a page at pc-on-internet.com (clearly not I-Mockery). The only place that this can really be occurring is in an iframe on the page, which is what I believe the ads are running in at the top of the forums.

It's kind of funny that they've done their page up to look like an actual Windows XP popup but you're running Vista :lol

I bet that it also redirects you if you click on Cancel, too.

Finding out the ad banner should provide enough clues for Rog to remove them from the rotation or complain to the network.

Zomboid
Jul 14th, 2008, 02:10 PM
I always click cancel or just close the box and it always redirects me. I figure it's just spyware or something already on my computer though.

Kitsa
Jul 14th, 2008, 02:51 PM
It just happened to me again on another site, different computer, and I barely had time to nab a screencap of the banner ad before getting redirected:

I just had one with the "You are the 1 x 10^19th visitor" things at the top, nothing TOO obnoxious but it was shaking around like crazy AND it was making the Windows XP error noise about every six seconds. What I did for posterity is that I viewed the source code and saved it as a notepad file, in case anyone wants it.

Thanks for the screenshots Zomboid and Kitsa, I filtered out any ads coming from pc-on-internet.com as that seems to be the offending site. I couldn't find the actual ads anywhere, so I'm assuming they're coming from Google, so I went ahead and put a block on that domain name. Hopefully that'll do the trick. Keep posting screenshots if you guys encounter any other problem ads.

Seth, I think the error noise ad you mentioned came from Google as well, because I couldn't find it through our primary ad networks. Google apparently needs to get their shit together :O

Having not clicked on anything whatsoever, the site redirected me to this:

http://72.51.42.7/t101915005/h.html

I advise you not to go near it. And if that's not the cagiest thing I've ever seen, I'll eat my hat. Also, it's got rotating ads, so you never see the same one. It wants my email.

Again, it could just be my computer, though.
