Just get a Gameboy Advance. It's cheaper and it's got a backlight.

So does the PS1. You can get one for about 30 dollars used, 45 dollars with the screen, and the games are about 7-20 dollars now. Unless my local game stores are just very easy-going on their prices, this should apply to just about every Funcoland-like gamestore, so nothing like Best Buy.
I reccomend the Worms games, especially if you're using it for trips (I got the small PS1 for the exact same reason). Bomberman would be a good choice as well.

the psone with the portascreen kicks ass. it doesnt even need batteries! but just a cord to the cig lighter. i got a gba too, but its old and the screen sucks sometimes. its ideal for the person on trips, perfect for leveling characters in rpgs...
no, really. the psone had kickass games and this makes it a lot better. too bad they quit making games for it. they shifted to ps2 right after ff origins. pretty much... :(

What do you expect? Playstation is almost nine years old. I would go with the Gameboy Advance because of the Sonic Advance games and Super Mario World, but that's just me.

psone may be 9 years old but they had probably the best rpgs around 1996-2002 than any other console. the n64 had 1 or 2 GOOD rpgs, dreamcast, well, i dont need to explain why that failed. your gba is just getting 80% of the old snes hits anyway.

I'm pretty sure the reason the DreamCast was a failure was the product design team got stoned and forgot to make it so you can't just burn a copy of a game and play it without having to modify the system in any way.
Edit: Speaking of Dreamcast, I was just on my buddies not half an hour ago and while looking through his game collection (all burned of course) I realized that their entire game library is available on either the PS2 or the Gamecube with much much better graphics and online play to boot. I'd say DreamCast only still has a moderate existance is for those cheap fucking bastards that can't or won't afford a newer game system and choose the DC since they're about 25 - 30 bucks used, including 4 controllers, and 10 VMU's, and all the games are pretty much free, well, you know, minus the cost of a spindle of blank cds.
It was okay, but the controllers were gay and so were those memory fucking gameboy VMU things. Overall, I'd have to say, I wish I had two extra hands so I could give this system 4 thumbs down.

the dream cas failed because It was TOO good
It had the best everything when it was released. Its just that no companies knew how to use any of the tech properly.

Exactly, don't give me that bullshit about burning games. You can mod your Playstation 2 to play burnt games and it's standing pretty high up in console sales.
