Comon, it only comes once every 4 years. You have to be at least partially interested in one of the events. I'm watching mens water polo lol. :(

Watch Water Polo, it's basically guys trying to drown each other, occasionally throwing a yellow ball.

I watched Canada kill Taiwan in baseball, and during commercials I flipped to a different channel to watch Puerto Rico kill the U.S. in basketball. :lol

I like how the nbc interviewers keep trying to pressure Phelps, and he really doesn't care about leaving with 7 medals of every kind to beat someones record. :rolleyes
"So, you've lost the chance for the 7 gold medals, do you think you can still manage winning 7 of any kind?"
"I don't know, I just go one step at a time."
"But the pressure must be really intense after your loss to the Aussies in the relay"
"No, i've got my gold medal, now i'm just having fun."
"You must be tired from the heavy swim schedule, how do you manage?"
"Actually it's pretty eas-"
"And along with the pressure of these medals..."
"Actually i'm just having fun, I don't care about the medals."
"As we see here, Phelps is using a psychological technique to make himself think that there is no pressure, therefore making him more confident."
"You're an idiot."

The record was 8, and it was set back in the seventies by another swimmer. They said he would be the closest to the record in years though.
I love the Olympics. I am in anticipation for the Marathon, Triathlon, and Decathlon; well, I guess all the best sports really.

cant he still tie some other record for most medals of any type won?

I know I haven't taken statistics yet so I may be wrong, but my guess would be that chances are the record for any type of medals won would be higher than the one for just golds. Anyway, I don't think Phelps is competing in anything that he wasn't aiming to take the gold in.

no, the record was 7 gold medals, and it was set by mark spitz
the record for medals of any kind in one olympiad is 8 so if he medalled in every event he entered he'd still tie it.

:( - Saw whole bunch of shit, but mainly Canadians struggling and fucking up in different competitions. Oh and that assclown Montrealer with the tutu jumping off the diving board. Word is that he got a 5 months jail term, over $3,000 fine and a beating from the cops.

They showed some clip of a sprinter Maurice Green winning a 100m. Then he throws his shoes on the ground and a friend runs to the track and starts spraying them with a fire extinguisher. I thought it was lol. :(

The judging in men's gymnastics has been such bullshit this time around, too. Just like figure skating in the last winter Olympics. :/
It was awesome when the crowd starting booing for 10 minutes after they gave the Russian guy a really low score for swinging around like an ape on the high bar. Nemov had to come back out and motion for the people to quiet down for the next guy. :lol
Incidentally, the crowd started booing again when they gave Paul Hamm an astronomical score for a performance that wasn't nearly as good as Nemov's.
EDIT: stupid spelling :(
Matt Harty
Aug 24th, 2004, 12:30 PM
Kinda sad that the score change didn't do shit anyways. It's also sad that Hamm was seemingly afraid to win gold.
