This year I'm going to be Doug Funnie. Maybe I'll be a Doug Funnie/Goatboy hybrid to TOTALLY FUCK WITH YOUR MIND.

My best costume was probably sophomore year when I went as a trendy. I wrote "GAP" in black marker on generic khakis, "ABERCROMY" on a blank white t-shirt, labelled my military boots "Doc Martins" and I made a tech vest out of a pillowcase. I always smile when I think back on tech vests.

Last year I went to Madison dressed as a 13th-century knight, and my sword and my dagger got confiscated by the police. Wearing a 30 pound birnie and a 12 pound coif all day does wear you out.

The only Halloween outfit I have ever had (I'd always hated it till I was 16) was something my Aunt sent from America here to the U.K. It was a skull and some bizarre coloured reddish purple goo that you glued to your face. It was cool to have on, but getting the fucker off was a nightmare.

By the way, it was special glue for the skin, not industrial strength stuff, so don't try this at home!

I am going to be a demon on vacation.

This consists of demonic makeup and horns, complemented by flower leis and the most godawfully brightly-coloured sundress in existence.

I think my best costume ever was... no, wait... um...

I didn't really have any good costumes, growing up. I was a tree, when I was four, except no one knew what the heck I was supposed to be.

But I think my favourite was when I was thirteen, my last year trick-or-treating, and I went as a vampire. And it's my favourite simply because during the costume photos that year, the camera jammed.

And there was this really great photo that resulted from an accidental double exposure.

Picture my younger sister and two of her friends, a thief, an alien and... er, something else. That had been the first picture taken. And behind them, partially transparent, making scary-vampire-motions behind everyone, is an image of me as a vampire.

It was the most awesome photo ever. I wish I knew what had happened to it.

I sometimes really wish we celebrated Halloween here, since the one time I got a chance to go all-out and make my own costume, I had a shitload of fun. It was the pre-final-exams party at high school, kind of like a prom, only far less tradition-bound and more like a regular school dance. People could show up in costume or just wear a suit or dress, and surprise surprise, very few people came in costume and the ones that did had cheap stuff like Hawaian shirt > Ace Ventura or sunglasses > Matrix. That almost sucked, but because I was one of a few people who'd gone all out for a costume, everybody thought I was awesome. Btw, I was the guy from Crow (It can't always rain :tear). Some people thought I was a member of Kiss.

I'd like to make a costume based on a bad guy from X-men simply called George, who was barely used in the comics, but made a few showings in the cartoon. He was decked out in purple, with yellow eyes, and made of tarlike mud. :love sigh

She helped a lot with it. I cut up and built the inner metal framework for it and then she sewed the orange fabric around it and sewed on the eye holes. Then I took care of the flaming head by cutting out a large piece of styrofoam, using some pumpkin lights, and multi-colored cellophane and tissue paper. Then she cut out the pseudo-flippers that rest on top of my real shoes with some green foam pieces. It was a really long process, but it was definitely worth it. I haven't made a costume from scratch in a long time. I took pictures of the process which I'll post later so people can see how to make their very own flaming carrot costume.
