Whats that? The 15th version of AoD on DVD. I'll stick with my theatrical cut DVD.

It's just a new batch of the limited edition with new cover art. It contains the theatrical version as well as the director's cut. As far as I know, it's the fourth release, though I could be wrong.

If you haven't bought any of them yet, this is the one to get. If you already own the theatrical release DVD and the Director's Cut "bootleg" DVD you won't need it. Luckily, I've been putting off buying army of darkness for a while, so this is the one I'll be getting for sure. :)

Same here. I knew there would eventually be an even better version. I'll be angry if they release an evil dead 2 version that's better than my "limited edition tin" one >:

As much as I love Evil Dead, all these different versions of every DVD really pisses me off, because each one has different features, and they all suck.
So, what exactly makes this version suckproof? I haven't been keeping up with the info.

I picked that up last weekend. It's the best version of the DVD, Jamesman, because it effectively makes the other three versions obsolete by containing all of the extras that have ever existed on the other three versions, as well as the theatrical and director's cuts of the movie.
If I had actually bought this on DVD earlier though, I'd be right fucking pissed off. That is some piss poor shitty planning on their part.

But what about the quality? Are they just flat-out copies of the other DVDs put together in a 2-disc set, or did they actually redo them to eliminate the poor sound and picture issues?
And since I've never seen any of the DVDs, ever, I'm basing that on the numerous opinions I've heard about some versions having poor picture quality, while others have poor sound translation.

I've heard the quality is better on the new set, but I have yet to actually watch it myself to say for sure. Either way, this is the set to get when it comes to Army of Darkness.

They have a whole explaination of the multiple DVDs and the quality issues here. (http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/forums/showthread.php?postid=58838#post58838)

On a related note: Which versions of Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 don't suck? I heard the BotD version of Evil Dead 1 had great sound, but poor image quality.

I bought the book of the dead and thought it looked fine... and yes, the extras rule. It even has a little documentary that Bruce Campbell did. Plus the book itself is SQUISHY.

I'm not gonna get any version of evil dead until I can track down a book of the dead for myself (damn you mock). As for evil dead 2, the limited edition is the same as the special edition, only in a kinda cool tin. It's 1 disc and it's got pretty good quality along with a cool featurette, commentary by sam raimi, bruce campbell, greg nicotero and someone else. Trailer, video game preview, still galleries, talent bios, 5 x 7 poster replica and a cool little booklet. I'm pretty sure the special edition is missing some of that stuff but not much.

Don't forget that it smells like a halloween mask, too.
One more thing. Do you think we'll ever see Within the Woods attached to one of the DVDs?

Mar 13th, 2003, 08:34 AM
The problem with BotD is that it's been cropped for widescreen TV, while the original is 4:3. Kind of a reverse pan & scan. Also it's a little too bright, but that's nothing a few clicks on the remote will take care of.
Within the Woods will probably be on a release some day. I've already got two versions of this one alone (as well as one EDII and two AoDs), so I'm not really waiting for another release. In fact, I kinda hope they won't figure the legal issue out. I know I won't be able to resist buying it all over again.
But the BotD is smelly and squishy and it makes me happy. Better than any teddy bear I've ever had.

Pay attention, shithead: Book of the dead is the best evil dead version and the limited edition tin is the best evil dead 2.

No, by all means it's a good film. It's just evryone raves and raves about it... but it's just not that good.
Ok, so where else can you see an army of little Bruce Campbells formed from a smashed mirror? And what other film has a script made up ENTIRELY of one liners? (possibly the most quotable one-liners, too!) And yes, hordes and hordes of rubber skeletons.
Overrated. Simple as that.
Ok, I'll sit in the corner and cry now. Please don't beat me up 8-)

A little offsubject: Why is it when I find Evil Dead action figures, I can always find Evil Ash but NEVER THE Ash? Damn people hiding it from me...
Yea, I'll get it, I don't have any of them on DVD (I got them all on VHS though. I need the EXTRAS.)

I hate pretty much all of Army Of Darkness. The only part I really enjoy is the S-Mart scene at the end, and that wasn't even originally planned for the movie.

Evil Ash is from a more recent series of Movie Maniacs, and Ash was from an earlier one. Both are discontinued, but that would be why you might still see an Evil Ash here and there.
But there is a Ash/Evil Ash package coming out at sometime. I might get it, as my Ash didn't come with the mini-Ash's and whatnot (he just came with the chainsaw, shotgun, and LIMITED EDITION EXCLUSIVE PIT DEMON ACTION FIGURE).

It's motion sensitive so if I walk by it scares the shit out of me (yelling "well hellooooo Mr Fancy Pants!)

I got this yesterday, and just finished watching the Director's Cut with audio commentary.
The image translation pissed me off. At the end during the big battle, it's too dark to see anything. I remember the VHS being brighter. I don't know how the audio track turned out though.
Anyone else have any comments?

Although I do agree that it's way overhyped compared to other great cult films, I'll agree that AOD is amazing.
I often argue with people that AOD is superior to ED2 and would like people's input, regardless of which they prefer. Which is better, and why?
