I watched this the other night. :( Even with the English speech on I couldn't tell what the hell was going on.
I haven't seen the American Grudge, but supposedly this one is "a lot scarier." If that's true, then the American one must be horrible. :(

did you actually watch ju-on: the grudge? cause there's like four of them. the only good ones are the first one, ju-on (the tv version), and ju-on: the grudge 2. ju-on 2 and ju-on the grudge both sucked.
there's a lot better stuff out there than ju-on

We watched The Grudge, mostly because we heard it was supposed to be ridiculously scary and some kind of tour de force of modern horror, to use a lame movie reviewer thing. And it wasn't.
EDIT: 3500 posts :)

Was that any good?
I was told not to see it as it was a waste of time, and I have never seen it.

no, it's more like a "the only thing about you worth reading is your fucking obituary" reason.

Ju-On: The Grudge was an excellent movie. But people either love it or hate it.
Frankly, it's the only movie in a LONG time to really freak me out. I greatly appreciate the film's slow-build suspense, versus the typical jump-out-at-you method that American films use (What was that? Oh, something's gonna happen! Oh, nothing happened. OH SHIT SOMETHING HAPPENED!).
The movie is very suspenseful and very unsettling if you can really get into it (watching it in the pitch black of night by myself, with headphones on so that fucking awful noise went right into my brain). But if you can't get into it, you will hate it. The film is still really well done, though.
Ju-On: The Grudge 2 wasn't a BAD movie by any stretch. But after you've been exposed to Ju-On, you're better prepared for any other films in the series that you see. But the sequel did have some very good moments.

Personally I prefer "Happiness of the Katakuris" in terms of creeping me out
Ju-on was a good horror movie though, and it's not meant to be explained or make sense. Just an attempt to scare you
