it's campy. it's over-the-top in its knock-you-in-the-head-with-a-mallet philosophical premises. but i couldn't help but love it. the main character, played by jason schwartzman, was a raging egomaniac within, selfless environmental activist without. dustin hoffman and lily tomlin created this wildly eccentric, neurotic chemistry. i laughed till i was almost crying several times. and i wanted to watch it again.

I love this movie. Wahlberg cracked me up, and I also loved it when Naomi Watts is in that commercial all depressed, slouched over and tossing the clothes around. Great flick.

One of the best movies from last year. The best part has to be Jon Brion's brilliant score. Gotta love it.

lol. yes! naomi watts in that laura ingalls hat. and donnie wahlberg vehemently spouting all that rhetoric as his wife and kid were leaving him. the sappy poetry. so emo. the whole time, kevin was saying donnie and jason were gonna end up "together": each other's other, right.

and, yes, the music was excellently original.

Just the going back and forth between philosophical "factions" was entertaining in my opinion.

first time i saw it i watched it again and then went to bed at 4 am.
that movie is total comedy cred to watts and wahlberg, hoffman is the most hilarious i've ever seen him, and i was so glad to see jason schwartzmann again. isabelle huppert was a trip though, i wasnt expecting that since i first saw it through netflix.
anyway, it's a great movie.

the blanket analogy was cool. and the tree vision. and the red ball.
and i loved the opening scene, with jason going through the maze of corridors trying to find the agency. even though i rented it, there was a features dvd in the box, and the director and jason were talking in the commentary about how they kept shooting the same hallways and doors over and over. but it looks so real. and jason looks so frustrated.

You think that I'm shallow and stupid because I didn't like the same movie that you did?? Yeah, that's keeping an open mind.

Just the going back and forth between philosophical "factions" was entertaining in my opinion.
i found the philosophy in it entirely too watered down, i kept getting the impression that no one knew what they were talking about beyond what their line said.
That said, i thought it was hilarious.
