View Full Version : VH1's "I Love Toys"

Mockery

If you have VH1, it's on TV right now. It's basically a top 100 toys countdown done with all the same comedians from those "I Love The 80s" shows. Good show so far... even if they don't have one of the world's greatest toy authorities on the show (coughcough ME coughcough).

You think we could petition them to get you into the sequel series?

Damnit, they just talked about Dominos without even mentioning "Domino Rally"! How can they do that? Who does their research?

I don't like VH1's countdown lists

Jerry Springer wasn't even on the pop culture icons one

They're talking about GOOD toys, aren't they? It makes sense they wouldn't dare mention the nightmare that is Domino Rally. >:

I have a love-hate relationship with Domino Rally. It knows why >:

James
Mar 9th, 2006, 01:11 AM
Wait nevermind. Mouse Trap was on.

Which COULD mean that Mouse Trap is the resident "take forever to set up only to have it fall for no reason" game, or they just totally whiffed on Domino Rally.

Mockery
Mar 9th, 2006, 01:19 AM
I rest my case. Domino Rally should've been in there. Also, as I stated in my blog post (http://www.i-mockery.com/blabber/?p=29), they should've mentioned Rubick's Rings damnit.

Staxeon
Mar 9th, 2006, 04:08 AM
Rubix Rings was like a puzzle renaissance compared to the cube.....until you snapped that fishing line trying to make origami outta the thing.

Still it was really amazing.

Mockery
Mar 9th, 2006, 12:08 PM
Yep, I still have mine, and it's solved. :genius

They also later released a larger Rubik's rings... it was twice the size and completely badass.

I find myself watching this show hoping to laugh at what they're saying like I did for I love the 70's, 80's and 90's..But it aint happenin'. At least it isn't as bad as I Love the 80's 3D.

AAAGHHH! YOU LIKE NINTENDO! MUST BE FANBOY! JAMES SMASH!!!

Gameboy SHOULD be higher on that list. It singlehandedly created the handheld gaming industry (shut up, I know there were some things before it, but those crappy 3 frame LCD games don't count), and is the single most successful game console line of all time. I don't think that it was TheBigGameOver that was being the fanboy here.

James
Mar 10th, 2006, 12:22 PM
I'm sorry, I can't understand you with all of Miyamoto's cum swirling about in your mouth. Please swallow and try to make your point again.

Actually, don't. Your blind and ignorant praise of all things Nintendo is just sickening, and the sooner you shut up about how the GameBoy is the cure for cancer and creates world peace and how much Sony (Oops I mean $ony right fanboy?) sucks, the better.

Immortal Goat
Mar 10th, 2006, 12:40 PM
When the fuck did I mention Sony in that post? Oh, wait, that's right, I FUCKING DIDN'T.

My blind and ignorant praise? Maybe I just fucking like my Gameboy. Did you ever think of that, asshole? I never said it was the absolute greatest thing ever invented, but what I DID say was that handheld gaming wouldn't be where it is today without the influence of Nintendo and their GameBoy line.

While I may not like Sony's consoles, it is based not on the fact that Sony makes it, but the fact that most of the games do not appeal to me. So, yeah, if I don't like a lot of the types of games on the console, that makes me a fanboy, but you,, insulting Nintendo fans for no reason and automatically getting defensive, are being the rational, sane person in this conversation?

Grow the fuck up, James. Maybe then you will learn that you don't need to define gaming by brand names, but by the quality of the games themselves. In that respect, it is all fucking opinion, and if someone likes Mario and Zelda games, that's perfectly all right. Asshole.

totaly. also why the fuck was pong #97? that should be top 20 for sure.

ps- im not a nintendo fanboy, im a capcom fanboy....

Immortal Goat
Mar 10th, 2006, 02:07 PM
Well, I don't know about Pong being top 20 material. The thing that makes a great toy is the ability to keep playing with it even today. While I still find Pong fun, I would play my gameboy more often than the original Pong.

James
Mar 10th, 2006, 02:15 PM
If Pong was made by Nintendo, I bet you'd be screaming about how it should be #1 while you jerk off to pics of Mario. :rolleyes

And I love how just because I don't worship Nintendo as the One True God, I'm the one at fault. Nice perspective you guys have on things, but I guess when you spend your whole lives playing games for babies, it's hard to be mature about anything.

You're lucky GameBoy was even on the list. It's about the greatest toys ever, not the pioneers of shitty handheld video game products.

Immortal Goat
Mar 10th, 2006, 02:25 PM
No, you're the one at fault for automatically attacking someone who voiced their opinion of Nintendo when they didn't even address your precious Sony. You don't have to like Nintendo, but when someone DOES like them, you need to keep your damn mouth shut unless they are specifically addressing you or Sony.

Mockery

All of you shut the fuck up about the Nintendo shit and let's get back to talking about the I Love Toys list. I mean really, Lincoln Logs are far more important than your Anti-Nintendo/Pro-Nintendo blatherings...

Immortal Goat
Mar 10th, 2006, 03:50 PM
I had the absolute best Lincoln Logs set ever. It came with this mat that was made to look like the ground in the old west, and it had nice, friendly grassy areas for the cowboys, and then threatening, deadly desert for the indians.

I miss those, but when it came to building toys, nothing could touch legos. Absolute best toy for kids ever.

Immortal Goat

Legos are #3 >:

2 and 1 better be fucking amazing to have beaten Legos >:

EDIT: Fucking BARBIE beat Legos? Great, a toy that made hundreds of girls self-conscious that their feet were flat on the ground, but one that nurtures the creativity of children, effectively making them smarter, isn't as good? If this show was decided by viewer votes, then I'm not surprised by this development, but still, that sucks.

I just found this on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legos, trying to figure out if it really called Legos in the US :

The Lego Group's name has become so synonymous with its flagship toy that many use the words "Lego" (collectively) or "Legos" to refer to the bricks themselves, and even to any plastic bricks resembling Lego bricks, although the Lego Group discourages this as dilution of their trademark. Lego catalogues in the 1970s and 1980s contained a note that read:

The word LEGO® is a brand name and is very special to all of us in the LEGO Group Companies. We would sincerely like your help in keeping it special. Please always refer to our bricks as 'LEGO Bricks or Toys' and not 'LEGOS.' By doing so, you will be helping to protect and preserve a brand of which we are very proud and that stands for quality the world over. Thank you! Susan Williams, Consumer Services.

Barbie isn't what made me self-concious, it was characters on TV that looked exactly like me and were hated by all of the other characters :(

I'll start calling it "Lego bricks" the day Susan Williams starts calling her American cheese "Pasturized processed cheese food".

Take that >:

Cheese is a better toy than a hula hoop. Where was this vote held for this list, a retirement home?

James
Mar 12th, 2006, 07:56 PM
Geez, with all the hate for the hula hoop, you'd think it was made by Sony or something.

Fanboys. No matter WHAT #1 was gonna be, you weren't gonna be happy with it since it wasn't a Nintendo product. Don't be mad because you were so fat that you couldn't use a hula hoop as anything else than a belt, tubshits. :lol

Lego used to be good, but the past few years they've been shit. WAY too many sets are linear nowadays, with little room for creativity or effort. I had a castle set that took forever to build with mostly standard Lego pieces. Now, a castle set would probably be 4 wall pieces (complete with built-in drawbridge on one), and a roof pieces. It's really fucking sad.

Made even more sad since Lego sets costs a fuckton more than they used to.

i use the term 'lego' as the plural, 'legos' sounds weird in my opinion.

but then again so is the fact that ive been enjoying lego in some form or another for like, 15 years :(

While James masturbates himself to the thought of pwning me with his crushing Nintendo comments, I'm actually going to stay on topic.

I can understand why hula-hoops got high on the list. They're fun, they've stood the test of time, and they're cheap. Still, I fail to see how over the course of the years, Legos haven't proved themselves to be the definitive children's toy. Sure, some of the sets have become simplified, but that's mostly with the Bionicle series and the few spinoffs. The Harry Potter sets and Star Wars sets are still as intricate as ever, and thank God for it.

I also see why Barbie was in the top 3. I personally disagree with it being over Legos, but that is due to the fact that both boys AND girls can play with Legos. Show me one boy over the age of 4 who is willing to play with Barbies.
