For the longest time I said that too, but I got the GBA Kingdom Hearts for my birthday and it has to be the fucking coolest and most addictive RPG since Final Fantasy 6. I'm not sure how the PS2 games play, but Chain of Memories has a cool little real time battle system where you use cards to determine what actions you take, like attacking or casting a spell. the field controls feel like Paper Mario, with all the platform hopping and hitting things with a giant key, and the battle system feels like a better and more strategic version of Zelda 2. It rocks >:

The Summons are my favorite part, so far I've gotten Simba, Cloud (after fighting him as a boss :eek), and the Genie.

Have you guys ever even played Kingdom hearts, Sora is the opposite of angsty and in all honesty fighting off various disney villains with a giant key is very clever in my opinion.

I bought this game a few days ago but my new job hasn't left me any time to play it, I haven't even taken the plastic off the case.

But yeah, part of the charm of the games is playing through various Disney films, even if you're not a fan of the movies (All the ones I've seen could be counted on one hand). But there's still something just plain awesome about it.

And the story is great too. It's not the most original, but it feels fresh due to the inclusion of all the Disney stuff. And the overall details of the story make it very different from what you'd be used to seeing in a Final Fantasy game.

Really, everyone should play the first game.

I gotta admit I judged KH before I played the first one. I thought that the melodrama and dullness of the Final Fantasy series combined with the cutesiness of the Disney characters I know and love would be a recipe for disaster. I caved and played it for a few minutes and after I got over the awful Jpop song at the beginning, I became instantly hooked. The humor is great, the levels are imaginitive and so are the characters, the keyblades are fun to collect and the voice acting is top notch.

To many people assume that Kingdom hearts is just Final Fantasy with Disney licenses thrown in which just isn't true, every aspect of this game is a joint effort between the two companies; sound, graphics, gameplay, story, etc. Whether you like either company is irrelavant because what comes out of the mixture is almost completely unique. It might look like the post-FF7 swill that Square-Enix incessantly continues to shoot out of it's ass, but it actually has a lot of the flair and charm of the Final Fantasies of yore, and is a hell of a lot more fun to play than your typical (crappy) RPG.

When/if you do play Kingdom Hearts 2, you'd be wise to cover your ears when Aerith and Cid start talking. I thought people were being overdramatic about how bad those voices were, especially since the first game was all about awesome voice acting. But Jesus Christ. I never once thought Cid would be a sandy-voiced southerner, and Mena Suvari's so flat, you'd think they drugged her before she recorded her lines.

Totally agree about Mena. It does improve a little later, but not much. I've invested about 30 hours into this game now. Loving it more than the first.

At this point, I couldn't care less about the "I'll never try this game, the concept behind it is retarded and Disney is pure evil" folks. They're the ones missing out. To hell with 'em.

The Creed thing originated on Battle.net several years ago. A bunch of us were in chat, waiting for someone to show up so we could start our StarCraft game. I'm certain Mockery and fairly certain Military Messiah were a part of the conversation. I can't remember who else was there. I was looking through my illegally downloaded music folder and saw Creed in there. Now, this was way back when I lived at home and my brother and sister would use my computer without asking me quite frequently. I foolishly commented on the mp3's in chat and so began years of taunting.

Of course, if Mockery would like to add his two cents, I'm sure his recollection of events would be thoroughly entertaining and 100% accurate.

I know Emu or some mod is going to kill me for bumping this, but seeing as the Kingdom Hearts II is out now , I just have to say it is awesome, and a delight to hear Donald and Goofy's voices. It's a shame that Captain Jack Sparrow's voice wasn't done by Johnny Depp, but otherwise it was cool to see all these veteran voice actors on board. Plus the dialog is only second to MGS.

I caved and bought Kingdom Hearts 1 because I found a shiny black label copy and I am a faggot. I only played it about half an hour but so far I hate it.

Well KH1 was the first game I got on my PS2 a few years back, and I loved it! I've never really played any of the FF's properly but this game seriously kicks major ass. The battle system is pretty awsome too, plus collecting different chains to make different keyblades is fun as hell. Equipment to boost stats are good in any RPG and this has just that. I actually liked the Disney cameo's especially Jack Skellington. The bosses are very fun and creative. I finished the game but it took a loong time. I do agree that the gummi ships were a waste of time and Ansem was a little easy to defeat.
And I'm not done KH haters! I hired out KH2 and from what I played, IT WAS SO GODAMN AWESOME! But I didn't get far. So on KH side, KH haters may not be gay, but defenitatly are missing out.

I'm playing this game and I still hate it. I fail to see what I'm supposedly missing out on. So far the game has consisted of a lot of cardboard cutouts of Final Fantasy characters appearing to reveal some vague plot details to me, some Disney characters inserted wherever it's convenient to do so, and running around shitty knockoffs of Disney worlds mashing the X button.
