View Full Version : WoW Funeral Ambushed

In case you haven't seen it already...

One Warcraft guild had a member die in real life. So they announced to the world that they were going to have a public funeral IN THE GAME for their friend. They logged into her account and brought her to a lake where all the other players could pay their respects to this popular player who died in real life.
Another guild, however, decided to ambush the funeral. They slaughtered everybody and now the players are absolutely furious at this one guild for desecrating their in-game funeral.
Brilliant that they held the funeral in a PvP area instead of a place where they couldn't be attacked.

I went over to the official forum for that server, and it looks like a very strange server.
They have their very own Scientology guild (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-realm-illidan&t=155229&p=1&tmp=1#post155229).
That was a pretty shitty thing to do, but they organizers of the event provoked it by not getting a Blizzard GM to protect them from attacks - assuming they actually WANTED people from both factions present. Something very much like this happened in another MMO called Dark Age of Camelot, but they got their GMs to help, and it was a sweet, touching event where enemies set aside their fight for a moment of respect.

The GMs for WoW will not help with this kind of thing for the following reasons:
a) There is a PvP solution to their problem.
b) They could have held the funeral in a non-contested zone.

I was suprised that it was the Alliance ganking. Ya, I know they all pussy anal whores, but I figured the Horde members wouldn't do something so dumb.

The GMs for WoW will not help with this kind of thing for the following reasons:
a) There is a PvP solution to their problem.
b) They could have held the funeral in a non-contested zone.
a) Not if the problem was the arrangement of a location where alliance and horde could meet and NOT PvP.
b) Not if they wanted to invite people from the opposing faction, which may or may not have been the case.
c) The GMs for WoW will not help with this sort of thing because their primary function is maintenance, not enrichment. I seriously doubt they have either the authority or the ability to reflag any zone, let alone a PvP zone, had the players even tried to request it.

Just don't :( It'll suck your life away. Moments like those come about once every 3 years, and most likely you won't be involved and it won't even be on your server. You'll be too busy farming reputation or running 5-hour dungeons to see something that cool, anyway.

That was pretty fucked up, but they played the fucking part and it was awesome. That Rogue annihilated, too. Looks like he was barely touched.
This reminds me of a story i head about some now-defunct MMO where there was actually a guild of hitmen who would run into a town/area and slaughter whoever was there for the bidding of the server's richest patron, like a nerd gestapo. Fucking cool.

Why would they announce that they are holding the funeral there if it's a guild member that died...
Would you post a flyer around town that your grandma has died and where you're holding the funeral?

RF's pvp relies on using potions, fucking queer.
SN targeted the funeral because the guild of the dead dude talked a ton of shit. Serenity is all about proving how overpowered certain classes are in pvp. They greif a ton and it's funny as fuck. The music choice is really funny, not sure about 'scatman' though.

Ok toddler, i'll spell things out for you, nice and slow.
IF. YOU. WATCHED. THE VIDEO. YOU. COULD. EASILY. TELL. IF. THEY. WERE. OUTNUMBERED.
The numbers don't fucking matter, it's a grief. They weren't a team and you can't be fucking outnumbered by a bunch of solo players, most of whom probably never even pvp'd before.

LOL yeah. I thought it was hilarious how someone said something like "real PvPers enter BGs" in the beginning part where they were quoting forum posts.
Real PvPers run into towns to kill you while you talk to the vendor, IMO.

If you come on soonly i'll get you on a team and we can check. For the most part Brutes are completely useless againts hero balls.
Chojin

If you're referring to FF defenders, I'd think that if any class is 'viable', it'd be SS brutes. What with Rage and all.
Matt Harty
Apr 21st, 2006, 01:22 AM
I'm referring to storm defenders and controllers. You'll never get enough fury in a pvp zone to do legimate dmg. =[
Brutes, Doms, Scrappers, and MM's are basically useless in pvp.

i know a lot of you play a lot of mmorpg, but can you drop the abreviations please.
also a dount wich i need answer for. why are they called role playing games? i mean in every other game you play a role too. is it because you upgrade your character, or because you can play "dress the hero"?
Chojin
Apr 21st, 2006, 12:30 PM
Maybe it's different in massive-scale PVP, but I always had good fury going in PVP. I'd just throw quick wimpy punches and let the other guy get all cocky and then waste him with a few tigar uppercuts.
You'd think it'd be even better with more people around to smack you and be smacked, though.

I have no idea what a dount wich is, but it sounds DELICIOUS.

Apr 22nd, 2006, 12:18 AM
but to answer your question, they are called role playing games, because they originally involved creating a whole character, with his own story, who would then interact with other characters to form a more pic story.
"massively multiplayer online role playing games are also often just called MMO's (dropping any mention of role-playing) because the fact that you have so many people playing together is more important than any individual's story. pure role-playing is just interactive storytelling. pure gaming is random number generators (dice, cards, computers) and/or reflexes (pacman, football, whatever).
of course, a game could have any amount of either or both elements, but role-playing and gaming are distinctly properties of some person's idea of a good time.
