If you go to it without the thought that it will suck because it won't be totally faithful to 40 years of comics, then it will probably be fun.

Aye, I might go see it on Tuesday. I thought the first one was entertaining, it wasn't a waste of money or my time. I hope the same goes for X2. If it is at least comes to those standards, it is okay in my book.

Protoclown

His name is Samuel Le Bihan. Look him up on the Internet Movie Database. Based on his performance in that, I think he could do it.

But there was someone I thought of a while back who would make an absolute PERFECT Gambit and now I can't recall who. When I think of it I'll post it here.

I'd prefer to see them go with unknowns for a lot of these parts and cast them WELL, rather than just go on name recognition. Hugh Jackman wasn't that well known before X-Men, and look at how awesomely he portrayed Wolverine.

I wish they would get an unknown to play the Punisher. :(

James
May 1st, 2003, 10:42 PM
I will be playing Gambit in the next film. :(

I don't pay much attention to reviews (unless I want to btch about how fucking wrong they are), but I've only see one negative review for the movie so far, and about 20 positive. So it should most definitely be good.

The only downside is that with so many characters, a handful of them end up underdeveloped and unused. But if you can look past that, this should be enjoyable.

Since I'm a cheap bastard, and I hate people, I'm going some time next week for a matinee on a weekday.

I was optimistic until I saw that Deathstrike is now an X-Men, having miraculously risen from the mass Reaver grave and now a bit younger and such.

Still, I'll see it. But I still can't get why they are really messing with the lineup with some sick pick n'choose game.

Protoclown
May 2nd, 2003, 12:54 AM
What are you talking about? Lady Deathstrike is NOT an X-Man, her and Wolvie are supposed to have some huge fight in the film. They didn't suddenly make her a good guy, unless I'm grossly mistaken.

And how exactly are they messing with the line-up? The X-Men have probably had at least a hundred different line-ups in the forty years they've been around. How could they possibly select a lineup for the movies without some sort of pick and choose game?

Zbu Manowar
May 2nd, 2003, 01:17 AM
I'm just going from the trailer I've seen. It they included Deathstrike with the others, so I assumed that they were pretending she was an X-Man all along. My bad.

And the X-Men have had changes, but Iceman isn't that much younger than Cyclops and Jean and such. It's just the little things that bug me, I guess. At least they could have kept that straight. Really digging Nightcrawler, through, love those bellbottoms. Might go and buy a figure. ;)

UnDeath
May 2nd, 2003, 01:57 AM
yeah, I can see Samuel Le Bihan play Gambit. They could even bring him into the plot through Rouge, if they want to be accurate with the comics. Also, I think his super power would look awesome on film. Cmon. Explosions. In an action movie. >:

May 2nd, 2003, 02:05 AM

Saw it yesterday, loved it. I usually frown at big elaborate CGI-ed slo-mo action sequences that are obviously only there to make people go 'whoa!', but I must say I loved the opening with Nightcrawler. That's some fucking sweet motion control work.

I don't claim to know a damn thing about the comic books, so I'm not one of those people who are gonna bitch about how so-and-so should be older by now, or why is this person in there when THAT person would fit much nicer. Not knocking any of you, you're obviously holding this movie closer to your hearts than I am, but from somebody who just really liked the first one, this one is way more enjoyable.

Oh, yeah. Nightcrawler kicks ass.

Don't want to hype it up too much but yeah, Nightcrawler was pretty cool. He was the comic relief a lot of the time, which feels pretty weird at first, but it's not really a problem. Plus, he's fucking deep blue. I'd kill to be deep blue :(

Generator86
May 2nd, 2003, 02:53 PM
Yeah, Nightcrawler did kinda sorta(how's that for initiative?) play the comic relief role, but it didn't seem forced or anything. More people were laughing at a few of Wolverine's quips than they were at Nightcrawler. To me, he seemed to play the more tragic role, kinda like Wolverine or Rogue did in the first one. Eh, either way, I'm seeing it again Monday afternoon. I would go see it over the weekend, but I'd just rather not deal with a bunch of screaming kids and scoffing fanboys(like last night).

By the way, this isn't a spoiler since I'm not telling any of you a DAMN thing about it(for those of you who haven't seen it yet), but I just loved the ending. :love :love

The Phoenix Force is this weird thing that takes control of various people, notably Jean Grey, but others too, including her daughter Rachel. Since in mythology the phoenix is this firebird that resurrects itself, so Jean (or her clone... complicated story) gets these firebird powers. Basically she becomes super powerful.

She was hot, and wasn't necessarily an evil mutant. 90% of her scenes can be found in the theatrical trailer... I think that beats out the suckiness of Darth Maul. I definitely think that her character should have had a bigger role. :(

I loved all the cameos they had in the film. I remember seeing:

Colossus
Shadowcat
Beast (as Dr. Henry McCoy)
Siryn
Jubilee
and Gambit's name, Remy Lebeau on the computer screen when Mystique was on Stryker's computer. I'm sure there were PLENTY of other names from the comics on there, but I noticed his since it was right above Magneto's

Can anybody recall others?

As for the ending, I knew that was going to happen. A friend of mine hinted that one of the characters was going to die and I immediately guessed it was going to be Jean Grey so they could do the whole Phoenix thing in the third movie. I could find nothing (well, that's a big word maybe) wrong with this movie. Anything I disagreed with or disliked in X-Men 1 was fixed. Namely Wolverine doing barely anything with his claws. Yeow. I think we can all agree that Nightcrawler was spectacular. This was Matrix-type shit. It was too bad they killed off Yuriko immediately, but I guess there was no time to get into her story as well. I must say I really like how they're slipping characters into the background (or introducing some as kids), it makes you feel less like they cut chunks out of the comic. Bobby, Rogue and Pyro were great.

Also, I hate John Stamos and I need to find a girl that will wear bodypaint like Mystique's. :wank[/b]

Mystique's base infiltration and flipping the bird as she slides through the door.

Her and Wolverine are still my favorite characters in the movies. They just rule. And yeah, seeing her flipping the bird was hilarious... she's quite the bastard. Magneto's escape was easily one of the top moments of the film too. What an awesome way to kill a guy hahah...

Couldn't help thinking about Darth Maul when that scene was over.

What I really miss in X2 though, is there's nothing in it that touches the nerve that the first one did. I'm thinking especially about the scene in X1 where Wolvie accidentaly runs his claws through rogue and the dialogue sorrounding this scene. As spectacular these movies may be, I think this still is my favourite part.

Zomboid
May 4th, 2003, 12:06 AM
Ok, I just got back and holy sh*t did it kick ass. It was a lot darker than the first one and I loved that they weren't afraid to show people getting killed in this one.

I love when there's small things that only fans would get like the Remy LeBaux appearing on the list of names on stryker's computer or hank mccoy on tv. Also, I think everyone who's even close to a fan knew what was going on when jean grey's eyes lit up and everything.

I read in pretty much every review or posted opinion on it that each character doesn't get much time because they try to cram a lot in and while that's true, I think it worked nicely because there weren't really any weak characters like the merry/pippin sh*t in the two towers.

And pyro kicked ass. I thought he would suck but he was made like he was supposed to be, minus the accent.

Protoclown

I agree. He was a very cool character and I didn't expect to like him but I did. They didn't shove his "turning" down our throats and it was done very well.

Oh yeah, I'm guessing "jason" was mastermind, but I'm not sure. Can I get some confirmation?

Seriously, best movie in a while.

FS
May 4th, 2003, 05:34 AM
Mastermind's name was Jason Wyngarde. But since I don't remember anyone by the name of Stryker from the comics, I'm guessing they just gave this Mastermind a different last name to fit into the movie.

They did have a lot of characters, but since a lot of the introductions were already over with the first movie, that didn't seem like a problem to me. Except for the morons who watched X2 without seeing the first one.

One thing I thought they might've done a little better is explain just why Jean had to leave the Blackbird to save everyone. I figure it's because her powers would've killed/wounded everyone otherwise, but it didn't become entirely clear to me.

Protoclown
May 4th, 2003, 10:19 AM

The kid with the tounge, is Artie (sp?). In the comic book he is one of these kids who hang out underground with the Morlocks, until the Mauraders came and killed the Morlocks. Then they spent some time in X-Factor, and I think they are in Generation X now. Artie acctually has powers in the book, and they let him talk in hologram images. He has pink skin too. Not just like fat white boy pink. But super pink. There is suppose to be another kid with him named Leech, and he's green.

Lady Deathstrike isn't necessarily dead. If she does have a healing factor on par with Logan's, all they have to do is scoop out all the hardened adamantium, and pray that none of it attached to bone (she can stand to lose some organs/muscle IF her healing factor is on par with Wolvie). One thing I learned reading X-Men is it's hard to keep a good mutant down. :)

Here's some interesting information about designs not used in X-2. Some of which may be seen in X-3. From Dark Horizons.

X3: Production Designer Guy Dyas spoke with Countingdown about all sorts of design work required for the over five dozen sets used in "X2", and talk came up of the inevitable sequel which he says he hasn't heard anything official about as of yet. He did confirm some of the designs they did for "X2" but not used in the film will be saved for future films. Amongst those are the following, see if you can guess which ones will eventually see the light of day: "The Danger Room and the Danger Toom control room (where someone can monitor & supervise the training sessions), Beast and Beast's laboratory, Angel and Archangel, The interior of Alkali Lake's abandoned base which included some very intricate prison cells and a giant cylindrical room where a big mid-air fight sequence was going to happen between Toad and Nightcrawler, a land vehicle that was going to come out of the cargo area of the X-Jet, and a secret level in the Pentagon in Washington D.C.".

Storm electrocuted him in X-Men 1, but I think afterwards he fell into the water still flailing lively. I'm not sure though.

I liked him better than Sabretooth, but it was so annoying that everyone suddenly loved Ray Park just for his stuntwork as Darth Maul.

If they throw in the transformation of Angel to Archangel, they almost have to throw in Apocalypse... which seems to me like a very hard character to pull off NOT laughable on the big screen.

I think the Apocalypse story would be the big finale for the series. Once you take on the manifestation of complete and utter destruction of the world, there's nowhere else to go from there. And you know they have to involve Cable too.

Anyway, screw Darth Maul. I liked Ray Park as Toad, DESPITE being the stuntman for Darth Maul. I thought he did a good job, and the nod to Darth Maul was kind of cute. As for flailing, that could be an error, or a hint, or just the fact that being electrocuted would probably make him twict. Who knows?

Yeah, i'm fucking bumping this. >:

I just saw it today, thought it totally kicked ass. Jean can read my mind any day. ;)

Two questions, though.

1. Why did they leve Stryker's son to die? I figured Xavier (being the pseudo-jesus he is) would want to save the poor sucker. I wanted to call Stryker's son Wyrm, but i know that's not right, which brings me to question two.

2. Which guy IS Wyrm, again? :(

Stryker's son was a bad guy. He could project thoughts and hallucinations into other people's minds, but he used his power to further his own interests, initially, and was then completely controlled by his father.

Ninjavenom
May 19th, 2003, 02:30 PM
Zomboid told me that fellow had to be Mastermind. Wyrm does sound familiar though, i could swear i remember a psychic mutant named Wyrm. I may have him confused with Leech for some gay reason, though. And just because he was a bad guy doesn't mean Xavier wouldn't try to save him. Xavier, i think, would have tried to save him simply because of what Stryker did to the poor bastard, and try to re-train him. Charlie always struck me as the kind who's full of second chances, i doubt he'de give up when his life is on the brink. I'm not as big an X-fan of some of you other freaks, though, so i'm probably missing some intricate detaisl or something that would conclude otherwise.

FS

Sorry to bump this. I was reading up on some things at a movie mistakes and trivia site, and there was one or two things listed that might be interesting to you folks:

-The X-Men graphic novel, "God Loves, Man Kills" (some of the plot for the movie X2) the mutant hating senators name is William Stryker, the same name as the militant mutant hater in the movie.

-In the comic, Xavier had a son named David Haller who became known as Legion. He was mentally disturbed, suffering from multiple personality disorder. He had several different psychic powers, and each personality controlled a different power. One of them was a young girl. His left eye was green, and his right eye was blue. In the movie, Stryker has a son named Jason. He is mentally disturbed or catatonic. He has pychic powers. In the illusion he creates for Xavier, he appears as a young girl. His left eye is green. His right eye is blue. It would seem that this is supposed to be the movie's version of Legion. Some people also say that Jason is Mastermind aka Jason WyneGarn (or Jason Stryker, I guess in the movie) who has the telepathic ability to create illusion that are completely believeable in every way, sight smell, sound.

-Among the many easter eggs in the movie referencing other mutants, Singer placed an homage to popular X-man Archangel, who had been scrapped in early drafts of both X-Men and X-Men 2. Notice in the fight scene between Lady Deathstrike and Wolverine...up on the wall there are schematics and prototype sketches of Archangel's metal wings.

-In the first scene where we see Stryker, where he is fingering the stab mark on the President's desk, he appears to have on a ring with the Hellfire Club's (from the comics) trident symbol.

There's some other things that you might find interesting too, but these seemed to be some of the more interesting trivia/egg pieces that you might have missed: http://www.moviemistakes.com/film.php?filmid=3105&type=trivia
