WOWIE WOW WOW. I did not read this before
["Strangers With Candy" Season One DVD Details]
The official release date for the Season One DVD will be June 17, 2003. The double disc set of 10 episodes will also include the original unaired pilot, 15 minutes of outtakes, deleted scenes, and tributes. There's commentary by Paul Dinello, Amy Sedaris, and Stephen Colbert on four of the episodes! Unfortunately, at this point there are no plans on issuing the 2 following seasons. They might appear on a "best of" DVD in the future. I'm sure if Season One sells well, we'll see more.

FUCKING AWESOME! I'm so glad they're not releasing it as just a shitty best of. Season 1 is great, and I can't wait to see the unaired pilot 'n deleted stuff. This is gonna rule.
Thanks for posting the news Jixby!

I remember I used to watch that show on Comedy Central until they put it to 3 in the morning. >: I am going to buy this DVD, because the shows were funny. :)

This is fucking excellent. I had no idea it came out so soon. 4 commentaries and other features are very nice, and should be hilarious. I just wish that they could do commentaries for all the episodes. I have a feeling that watching with commentary is gonna be even funnier than the regualr shows..
They better fucking get with the ucb and release the other 2 swc seasons too >:

I cannot wait for it to come out. Must buy it the DAY it arrives in stores. They had better release the other seasons later on too.
When it comes out, one of us should review it on the movies site and I'll feature the review on the main page so more people will buy it.

Comedy Central “Quickies”, clips form South Park and Crank Yankers
Thats so lame they included that shit in the extras :( must they ruin the good shows with terrible ads? :(

When it comes out, go for it Jixby. Write the review and I'll feature it on the main page of I-Mockery. While it's not technically a movie, I do allow television show season box sets to be reviewed on the movie reviews site... and even if I didn't, I'd make an exception for Strangers With Candy.

You allow anything on a tape, DVD, or video file from the internet to be reviewed. ;)
Well, not you. Ninjavenom.

So who got the DVD set already? And if you have it, how is the unaired pilot and all the extra stuff like the commentary 'n what not? I ordered mine online cuz I had a gift card from some kind viewer, so I gotta wait a few days before it gets here.
BTW, Jixby, be sure to shoot me an email when you review it so I can be sure it gets approved right away so I can put it up on the main page.

I won't get it for a while because amazon.com hasn't even sent it yet, and none of the stores have it here (big surprise). I have a friend that works at Best Buy and I tried to get her to pull some strings but I didn't really expect anything to come of it. :(
The one thing I heard is that it only has the pilot and the commentaries as extras, no deleted scenes or outtakes (unless they are easter eggs or something), but it's no biggie because the pilot itself is like the biggest deleted scene you can have.
If somebody else has it already and writes a good enough review I won't be offended. But I've written enough reviews and stuff about the series itself that I could easily write a good review for the site.

I received it in the mail yesterday. Didn't get to watch too much of it yet, but I did watch the pilot and a few of the commentaries. The pilot episode is basically an earlier version of the "Retardation: a Celebration" episode. It's really cool to see the show just starting out 'n what not. I definitely like the changes they made after the pilot too...
And it's extra weird because Coach Cherri Wolf was originally cast as Jerri's mom! :eek
Anyway, yeah, I don't think there's any additional deleted scenes unless they're hidden. The commentary is pretty cool so far, and I like how they explain how they came up with the name Jerri Blank.
Anyway, BUY THIS DVD NOW PEOPLE! (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009B8FW/imockery) If you missed out on it the first time, now is your second chance to see one of the most brilliantly written shows ever.

hell yea. i got this the day it came out at best buy(i cant believe they had it!). I have watched it all but one commentary. It was so great to see all the episodes again in such great quality, there are so many jokes that I forgot about, and even an episode I have never seen :eek (violin one)
The pilot is funny to see how much the show changed, it is interesting how the made both jerri and her mother much worse people in the real series. Many of the jokes throught this episode are also used in later episodes.
I should do a review too. We should have like 20 reviews for this just so everyone knows how great it is.

we finished watching it all. Seeing the pilot was great and I think they made some really good changes from it. The commentary was pretty funny. I liked hearing how they came up with certain jokes, but what I really liked was when they pointed out jokes I hadn't noticed when watching an episode because they were so subtle.
This dvd made me sad :( why did they have to cancel the show
At least they are making a movie now. I can't wait for that

they better release the other 2 seasons. i hope that the movie really comes out too, though i cant quite imagine were they could go with a movie.
Man I need to sit down and finish rewatching the 2nd and 3 seasons too...i think there might be some episodes i had missed the first time round. Seriously this show gets better everytime i watch it.

Correction Re, we finished watching disc 1. There's a whole extra disc of "GOOD TIMES" for us to enjoy. :) And yeah there's a lot of shit you don't even notice in the show cuz it's so subtle... I wish they did commentary for all of the episodes.

Should someone who never even saw the show (it was so short lived on Comedy Central that I never got a chance to watch it) just go out and buy the DVD? Is there anyone that doesn't like it? Because if there isn't anyone that doesn't like it, I'm sold.

I had never really seen much of this show before, I always thought the commercials for it on Comedy Central made it look really bad.
But I watched several episodes at Mock's house yesterday and it was fucking BRILLIANT.
I will DEFINITELY be buying this DVD.

But why only Season 2? Why don't they just fit the last two seasons in the same set? :(
Jixby Phillips
Jul 29th, 2003, 04:44 AM
It's possible they might do that, actually.
From a production standpoint, season 2 & 3 were seperate seasons, but from a programming standpoint, they were just one big season. There was an 8 week break between episode 207 & episode 208, but before and after that a new episode was shown every week.
But who knows... even if they release them in production seasons, there's still much more of a chance of the rest of the series coming out, considering they only have one more season to go. When a show gets past it's first season being released, it tends to eventually get fully released.

I've only seen one or two episodes from season 2, but so far season 1 was better...Still, it's a hilarious show. I kinda thought it'd be one of those overrated shows that people say they like to fit in or something but I watched like 6 with a friend over the weekend and I wasn't disappointed.

damn. fucking awesome. I dont have to wait a whole year for season 2. Hopefully they will do commentary on all the episodes in this set.
each season is 10 episodes so i can understand why they wouldnt release a set with 20 episodes. Personally I would rather either have all 3 seasons in one set or all 3 in seperate.
Now we just need our fucking UCB >:

Is the Brak show coming to DVD? Thad be nice too.
last night I had the most amazing dream. I was riding on an ice cream donkey with Dean Martin. And even though the donkey melted just before we got to Walnut city. Dean didn't care. Thats just the kinda man he was.

Awesome. November 4th isn't that long of a wait at all... I'm glad they're not taking their sweet ass time with it (or just not releasing it at all).
Anyway, Jixby, yeah I still think an in-depth review from you of the 1st season DVD would be really cool. If you don't want to review it, just let me know and I'll feature whoreable's review instead. If you do want to still go for it, shoot me an email once you've submitted the review and I'll make sure it's featured on the main page of the site.

Now that I at last have an DVD player I will buy this. As soon as I collect enough cans. I hate poverty. Or having to spend money on my children. It comes to the same thing, less stuff for me.
I saw Wigville live. I was in the presence of Amy, Paul and Stephen.

I might write a review, since when I watched the first episode I was convinced that this was the most brilliant show ever. But if I write one, it's not anything that you might want to feature.
