View Full Version : Considering getting a server for hosting...

I've been thinking about getting a dedicated server sometime in the future. Basically I would be able to offer a pretty good hosting package to anybody that needs some web space. Could have something like $5/month for a 100 meg account, which would cover any basic web site or image hosting needs. And for those who would need more than that, I'd have other plans setup too.

Would this kind of a service be of interest to any of you?

It's nothing definite yet by any means, just trying to get an idea of how many people on here would be interested in somethin like that.

If my site ever outgrows its cable modem bandwidth, I will contact you. ;)

You would place your site in my (evil) hands? Oh Chimp, you trust me too much...

That sounds great, I am interested. If you ever start it up, let me know. I have been thinking about starting a site...

Can I keep 500 boxes of unsold World trade center ashtrays and wall plaques in your garage for $5 a month as well?

If I do it, it won't be a for a while due to my lack of money and/or a job... but I'm glad to see that there's already interest for it. I'll keep you guys posted on any news regarding the server purchase.

If you do buy a dedicated server, be sure it runs linux redhat 6.0 I believe. A whole lot better than the gh3y window servers >:

That's nice 'n dandy, but I use ASP with I-Mockery and I'd be hosting the site on there. So Microsoft it is...

:)

Mock, are you talking about buying a server to set up in your house? Because a ex of mine is going through some shit right now, because he has three routers and microsoft has over 100 complaints on him including other companys.

Screw that, people can do hosting if they want

Microsoft is so possesive and controling yet when they're asked to split they cry like a girl

Take that Bill Gates

Might I add that theres a poster in our library with Bill Gates posing with a book. And theres a little dropdown from the top that looks like when you click on "file" or "edit". But rather than file edit and exit they have "Read" "Write" and "Succeed"

The ironic part is that the drop down is of the Mac OS

:/

Nah, it'd be remotely hosted with a place that has more experience with hosting. I'd just buy the server and handle setting up accounts 'n what not.

It makes me sad every time I go to that page Jixby. I used to love being able to provide people with I-Mockery email accounts. Why must all good companies go to shit. >:

I wouldn't mind that at all, mock. I'm going to have a lot of videos and pictures in need of hosting by the end of the summer, and with an I-Mockery address you could just easily forward all the mail regarding movies to me, if you wanted to. I think you should get crackin' on this immediately and post-haste. >:

How will you accept payments? Will you get a domain name or a sub-domain name?

Mockery
Jun 3rd, 2003, 09:38 PM
If this ever happens, it's a long time from now. I have no cash really and couldn't afford to do it at the moment. If it ever goes through, people will be able to get sub-domains or probably point new domains to 'em. Payment options would be online or snail mail. Again, don't get your hopes up for this, cuz if it happens, it won't be anytime soon.

Right now I'm just checkin out who would be interested...

Thats good, He's basically hosting everything on his own... They found over 100 gigs of pirated movies while pinging him, so watch out what people put on there if you host them. Cause its your ip they will watch keep a watch out for.
