Here's a nice treat for all of you. Rick Bayan (author of one of my all-time favorite books, The Cynic's Dictionary (http://www.i-cynic.com/definitions.asp)) is making a guest appearance here on I-Mockery with his Visionary Darkness piece entitled "Osgood Mott, Breaker of Taboos." If you haven't had the pleasure of reading Rick's works before, by all means dive right into this story and then go check out all of the rants on his site, The Cynic's Sanctuary (http://www.i-cynic.com/whatis.asp). I've always felt he's had an amazing way with words and consider him to be one of the greatest writers out there.

Indeed. You should check out his site too, he's got some absolutely wonderful pieces on there. You could spend all day long just reading everything he has to say and not get bored for a minute. I've always held him in the highest respects.

OSGOOD MOTT is a fun story. I passed by it a few time and finally dug in and could see flashes of my persona that made me feel somewhat at ease. :)

It really is good, I'm wondering why more I-Mockers haven't commented on it yet. Perhaps they've been outside doing stuff this weekend? Either way, make sure you all read this piece, you'll definitely enjoy it.

Good story. For some reason, I just can't get the thought out of my mind that Osgood = Vince.

It reminds me of "A Clockwork Orange" in some respects, such as the electric brain-plug and the loss of free will for "social correctness" ideas.
A really good story, the ending was sad, but still a "happy ending".
I might have to read more of this Rick Bayans' works.

Aye, Rick is quite a master of the language.
And yeah, you should definitely check out more of his works. You can read a bunch of them here (http://www.i-cynic.com/note.asp) and here (http://www.i-cynic.com/weekly.asp). All excellent reads.

Outside doing something? this group of lazy crapholes?
I've seen the pictures, they are either a bunch of nerdy 15 y/o w/ glasses. Or 19 y/o w/ girly hair, that read too many wolverine comics, & still think sideburns are cool.
Rick Bayan is funny! & I heart max Burbank, who I think is the funniest writer on this site. I'd say -RoG-, but I will never get back those moments I wasted reading Wally Crouton...

great article. really good. can't reply more now, seeing as my hometown is under attack by aliens who are gradually taking over peopleés minds and I am forced to AND resist the mind-controlling devices, AND the mind-controlled people, AND the highly advanced aliens themselves.
ALL, at the same time, and ALL while I'm sleepy.

Glad to see that at least a handful of hardy Mockers enjoyed my tale of Osgood Mott. Now I'm sorry I killed him off. But Osgood being Osgood, I could probably dig him up a few years from now and he wouldn't mind. In fact, I KNOW he wouldn't mind -- it was his last request, right? I'll bet a dead taboo breaker could offend as many respectable folks as a live one.
