What do you consider swear words? What words do you say that may be considered offensive but, in general, may not be considered swear words?
Oooh! Oooh! Here's an interesting (I think?) anecdote here! Please excuse me as I have to use the word "******" in a quote. This isn't something that supposed to put me up on a moral pedestal or anything. It's just something that I remembered while recently discussing the topic of swear words with a friend. Anyway, here goes:
I once worked with a woman who didn't exactly cotton to my use of the word "fuck" or "shit" or one of those swear thingies at work. She claimed that she was a "church goin' woman" and that she didn't appreciate it. I apologized explaining that I just discharged from the army, that they tend to used harsh language and that I'd try to curb my language. Not a week later, her husband comes in to pick her up and he's complaining about the "******s" he works with and pretty soon the conversation was all "****** this" and "****** that" equally between the two of them. Now to me, that word is a much worse swear word because it's bigotous, inspires hate and shows your stupidity all in one. Being the outspoken person I am, needless to say, I made my opinion known. Afterward, having listened to my ranting, I was apparently deemed a "****** lover". So be it. I told her fuck off and that I'd say anything I damn well pleased and that we could consider it even. >:
