View Full Version : Does anybody else have this problem with energy drinks?

I don't drink them very often but when I do they always make me really fucking ill. I had one this morning and now I can't stop shaking and twitching, my joints are popping and I have a general feeling of tenseness. I think I might be allergic to guarana or taurine, since those two ingredients are common to pretty much every energy drink. Back in August I was hospitalized briefly after having a panic attack that I think was at least partially induced by Red Bull. :(

Aren't those symptoms of too much caffeine/sugar, because they have a lot of those, too?

I've never had a bad experience with energy drinks myself, but I have friends who have. I'm sure you've probably reached this conclusion by yourself by now, but it you think energy drinks are the cause, it's time to stop drinking them.

The only thing i dislike about energy drinks is that they're all fucking expensive.

I'd rather put straight sugar into a syringe instead of payin fuckin four bucks for a 12 ounce can of prefab shit.

Also, Red Bull tastes like pee.

I pretty much stopped drinking energy drinks and soft drinks some time ago because they gave me super bad zits (especially colas). Another reason that keeps me from drinking them is that they dry my skin up and give me dandruff. Energy drinks have never made me as ill as you, though, Emu.

Now i mostly drink juices and water when i want to wet my whistle, and one cup of coffee a day to wake me up.

Look for energy drinks that use Vitamin B-12 as their main stimulant. They work well, and probably won't give you the shakes.

I don't get any issues, I depend on them for my overnight shifts (11PM - 7AM) which I get twice a month or so.

The only time I ever drink energy drinks is the day after a bender. Or if I want to feel UNCOMFORTABLY ENERGETIC.

Anyone ever try Relentless? It's this stuff which comes in a huge can with bizarre slogans all over it. The best part is it's bright green, which lends it an almost cosmic feel.

I kinda get the same feelings when I drink certain energy drinks. Jolt was the best , but now they re-released it in a weird can-like monstrosity that puts fear into the elderly and the dutch.

Yes. They also make the energy drink that helps overcome the lethargy which follows a night of binge drinking.

I looked at the back of one of those 5-hour energy drinks and it totaled up to something like 10,000% DV recommendation of Vitamin B.

I know Vitamin B is water-soluable and therefore probably safe in huge quantities, but it's still fucking ridiculous.

I get a similar reaction when I drink too much, too fast with energy drinks. The jitters, for me at least, can be avoided by drinking the drink more slowly so you don't get all the caffeine/sugar at once. Although, you still have to deal with the crash afterwards.

Geggy
Jan 16th, 2008, 06:08 AM
i would feel ill if i drink energy drinks that are chocked with sugar or carbs every day so i usually drink them sugar free or low carb. too much of it can result serious crash, at least for me anyway. i would recommend rockstar blueberry sugar free but i think they may have been discontinued. so lately i've been drinking montser lo-carb.

I don't drink energy drinks. The concept of a manufacturer being able to package and sell intangible things like "energy" is insulting and weird to me. I don't trust them. Plus they taste hideous.

My only complaint with energy drinks is that theyre fucking exspensive.

aspartame is a tool of big brother, geggy

damn, and all this time i thought aspartame in diet sodas were equivalent to nicotine in cigerettes in part of a marketing scam to get people hooked

nos is just a grapefruit energy drink. haven't seen one that fogs up, though :o

There's a fruity version of full throttle that's awesome and a fruity version of Rockstar (purple can) that's absolute trash.

And one time I chugged a Monster and couldn't stop shaking and got really scared :<

we got a whole shitload of promo rockstar drinks at work. i was amazed at how fucking BIG they are - the only time i ever usually see cans that big is for holding tramp's beer. i guess rockstar are just catering for another type of vulnerability.

in-between the shitty sugar-free ones i found some half-juice ones, i don't know if they're the same as what you're talking about (they've got reddy/orange cans) but i need one every morning now to get into gear. manipulative fuckers.

I drink one of those before I workout. They seem to give me killer energy. It feels like I ate an adderal or something for about 45 minutes.

Keep in mind I don't drink sodas or energy drinks, ever. If I had to choose on taste alone, I'd pick energy drinks over sodas any day of the week. I guess I'm weird.

I've tried Red Bull once in the form of a Jaeger Bomb. The combo wasn't bad as far as taste. But 4 hours later, when I was actually trying to sleep, I had the feeling that my heart was trying to jump out of my chest. So now I drink my Jaegermeister straight, thanks.

I also drank a Chaser once. I felt like I was on bathtub crank gone wrong for 2-3 hours. I turned beet red also from all the damn niacin. Don't get me wrong... B vitamins are damn good after a bender but not THAT many. Jesus.

The energy drink I swear by is a pot of room temperature BLACK coffee. Then slam it.

I once drank a can of an energy drink called Red Rooster. I had soon jumped off a roof causing permanent damage to my spine, run halfway across the city, & was arrested for trying to sleep on a very busy roundabout. I don't remember any of it.

I once drank a can of Red Bull. I had soon affectionately squeezed Tropical's knee. I remember it clearly. Red Bull makes you gay.

Red Bull makes you gay.

That's not good marketing but, probably accurate

Red Bull gives you wings = Red Bull makes you a "Fairy" = Red Bull made me stick that stranger's dick into my mouth against his will in that McDonald's bathroom, Your Honor.

Stay in school. Red Bull ain't cool.

It could be a number of things. Most likely, you're allergic to something. But, if you tend to be a really hyper person, or naturally high strung, etc., then the extra boost can wreck your shit up. For me, it used to be bad for me. I had a whole monster at work because i was falling asleep, and falling asleep when you are single handedly keeping a tae kwon do summer kids camp running is a bad idea. I literally spent the next three hours running around playing with the children trying to rid myself of this extra energy, it was terrible. I was pounding on the table and practically yelling.
But I digress. You should probably stay away from energy drinks. If you must drink them, though, I would try working your way up. Like you can sometimes find cans of energy drinks that are maybe a third the regular size, especially at conventions and whatnot when companies and movies will take those mini cans of red bull and slap their own label on them. So you can work your way up, getting more used to the effect as you go. But eventually energy drinks will have no effect on you, if you drink them a lot. They can also be very addictive.

OH! Try wheat grass shots, too. You can usually get them at jamba juice and places like that. It's really healthy for you, helps clean out your system (NOT giving you explosive diarrhea. At least not to anyone i know.) an d is full of antioxidants. Whenever i have one, it gets me more energetic quick. All natural, too.

The most effective energy drink I've tried by far is Guarana powder. It may taste not so great but will help keep energy levels up for for about 4 hours. Too much though will makeyou jittery. Guarana powder can be mixed with anything. I usually mix it with fruit juice or boiling water and sweeten it with honey.
