View Full Version : The Price of Vanity

Today at work I purchased some lipstick. Not just any lipstick, the kind described as "long-lasting lip color" which comes in a little bottle with a wand that you dab onto your lips rather than a stick of wax. I was skeptical of its claim to last 16 hours, so I tried it on when I was home. I was pleased with the color when I looked in the mirror, and tested its durability by eating:
*Some rather greasy leftover chicken
*mashed potatos
*grapes
*fruit salad
*rice milk with a low-cal brownie thing
I returned to the mirror.
It wasn't even smudged.
I was delighted, and decided I should take a shower. I washed my face throughly under the hot water, and then I stepped out.
The lipstick was still on.
The soap had barely even removed it around the edges.
I grabbed some more soap and washed my mouth throughly.
Nothing.
I finally had to resort to taking a wet terrycloth towel and basically scrubbing my lips with the rough material until it finally came off, taking a good layer of skin along with it.
My lips now feel like they are on fire.
We women are foolish creatures indeed. :x
The only product I will be administering to my lips for a while will be Vaseline with aloe.

Puffy, no. Red and irritated, yes.
Oh Lawdy, why didn't I buy cold cream to remove it with? Why didn't I realize that this is a lot different than regular lipstick?

Best thing for your lips right now would be my special lotion.

I'd rather people not see the consequences of my foolishness. :\
And Tadao, your picture would be more helpful if I could actually see what it was.

yea, that's the problem with that kind of makeup :(
if you want lipstick that stays on for a long time and doesnt easily smudge you can use face powder over the lipstick or eye makeup

So all in all, you like the lipstick right? The only problem you ran into was your curiosity on what it would take to get it off.

my experience with that stuff is that even when it comes off kind of "naturally" it still leaves your lips burning ;/

Make-up remover?
Google tells me it's mainly for eye make-up but as it's basically just acetone it should work on other stuff too.

I tried eye make-up remover. And I'm quite sure that it doesn't contain acetone. I know what acetone smells like, and virtually all the nail polish remover they sell says "acetone-free", so I doubt that they still use in face make-up remover.
So all in all, you like the lipstick right? The only problem you ran into was your curiosity on what it would take to get it off.
It wasn't curiousity, it was desperation at that point. And yes, I do like how it looks, but I hate how it always rubs off and smears, which is why I bought the long lasting stuff.

Jeanette, you don't strike me as the kind of person that would wear makeup in the first place.
I thought this thread was going be a feminist tirade about oppression and what is expected from women in society blah blah blah

Oh, right. :lol2
Yes, I like it. The package reccommended using a type of make-up remover made by the same company. If it works effectively (and this time I will only be applying a little tiny bit of lipstick to the corner of my mouth to test how well the remover works), then I will keep the lipstick. Its a nice rich red that compliments my skin tone.

I'm telling you, if you put powder or eye makeup over the lipstick after you've put it on it stays on for a long time and doesnt smear as easily.

I'll give it a try as soon as my lips are better.
