I really enjoyed the Mock Wars and what became of them. Users would get pitted against one another in a bashing contest to see who had more wit and the thicker skin. Things definitely got a little ugly in my house with Immortal Goat. He always took Chojin's insults and OAO's political debates so serioiusly.

I enjoyed the back-and-forth (more back than forth) on the fluoride "debate" with the chillmeister - remember don't say the name, or you may invoke the evil spirit. :eek

Though his "arguments" were to cite articles that were years old (and mostly irrelevant) and punctuated by the ever-popular "Wha-BAM" level of commentary, it was quite instructive to me on how to be patient in discussing topical science with a stone-cold moron. And occasionally, he would be unknowingly hypocritical in his pronouncements which I found hysterical.

I also liked reading George's stories, until he stopped posting them. I hope his ex didn't kill him off. :(

I would say that any slow down in activity here in this forum has to be, at least partially, a result of the difficulty new registrants (new blood) have in becoming registered.

As an owner of a site, I know how annoying spambot registering can be. But in this day and age of instant registration using stuff like Facebook or Twitter accounts, the days of good old fashioned "enter your info" registration is doomed to die a slow death.

But that issue is compounded by having to actually send an email, then wait several days for your credentials. It's going to kill any chance for bringing new life to these forums.

Just an opinion.

But hey, at least the article comments should see an uptick.

I was always more of a lurker, but I really enjoyed this place once. I signed up in 2003, back when I was a teenage douchebag. Got a lot of laughs here throughout the years, but then life happened and I sort of forgot about this forum for a few years. I am now 30 years old, and still a fucking douchebag, so I think waltzing down the ol' memory lane is just honky dory! Here are some highlights I remember fondly:

- mburbank vs. VinceZeb and the whole catholicsamurai thing
- FatSatan was a funny guy. There were others too, but I don't wanna feed their bloated egos.
- Helm, the Greek god of all things metal
- At one point, the forum was so full of made up characters, it was hard to keep up. They became more absurd as time went on
- The secret santa events were a hoot
- Noob bashing. Some did not survive it, some proved to be funny, some just stayed even though no one liked them.
- Made a couple of friends here, altough the friendships didn't stand the test of time


As sad as it may seem, this forum really was a big deal in my life at one point. Thanks for that, I guess.
