Thought I would dedicate a thread to the 2008 NCAA Football season. Figured we should have one seperate from the over the summer thread.
OSU playing Ohio U this weekend. Prediction: OSU by 30, Ohio U gets a ton of money for the university which it will promptly spend on booze.:lol

Do you think Beanie's absence will cost him the Heisman? We all know how fickle the voters can be about missing games and such.
Minny plays Bowling Green. Prediction: BG by 10.

I don't think it will necessarily cost him the Heisman. If his numbers are on par or above those of rushers who played a full schedule then it may work to his benefit, actually.

If he misses another game he'll have to put up huge numbers to win the Heisman. When I say huge, I mean overwhelmingly dominating stats every game.

OSU showed up the same way they did vs. OU. I pretty much said they wouldn't win if they did that. USC obviously took the game seriously and OSU did not.
I was pretty sure ND would beat MU though

BYU popped into the Top 10 and the way Utah is going, those two should make for a great game when they meet up later this season.

It's hard to believe but the 2008 season is already at the midway point. It's amazing how fast a season goes when you are winning and how agonizingly slow it goes when you win 1 game.
Anywho, here are some games to shoot your wife over:
5 Texas vs. 1 Oklahoma - Red River Shootout, ya heard?
4 LSU vs. 7 Florida - Will Tim Tebow get brutally murdered in this game?
6 Penn State vs. Sconnie - The Pants Shitter goes on the road against a desperate Badger team.
3 Missouri vs. 17 OK State - I like the Tigers here but my spider senses are sniffing a possible upset.
22 UNC vs. Notre Dame - A good measuring stick for two upstart programs.
20 Auburn vs. Arkansas - Will Auburn be able to complete a pass after firing their OC after only 6 games?
Also if you can check out the Toledo/Michigan game. One can only hope that Michigan once again falls flat against a MAC team (squeeked by Miami U earlier this year 10-6) and gives the college football world another great laugh fest.

Probably will not be as good a game as advertised, I am betting OU controls this one.
4 LSU vs. 7 Florida - Will Tim Tebow get brutally murdered in this game?
Probably, Florida is not as good as they think they are this year.
6 Penn State vs. Sconnie - The Pants Shitter goes on the road against a desperate Badger team.
This will be a good test to see if Penn State is for real or just overrated. I suspect they are for real though
3 Missouri vs. 17 OK State - I like the Tigers here but my spider senses are sniffing a possible upset.
I have heard that sentiment echoed by those I hang out with, I think Mizzo will be fine though
22 UNC vs. Notre Dame - A good measuring stick for two upstart programs.
UNC should win this one handily
20 Auburn vs. Arkansas - Will Auburn be able to complete a pass after firing their OC after only 6 games?
I am hoping for an Arkansas win so I can hear the SEC apologists make excuses about the parity of the league :puke

I'm surprised, but not shocked. This is not the same 1-11 team from last season. If Coach Brewster can squeak out 9 wins he better get Coach of the Year for not just the Big Ten, but the entire country. As it stands now we have a realistic shot at winning at least 3 more games, and it's possible to win out and finish 10-2.
I'm very surprised about Oklahoma, glad that LSU was finally exposed, and not all surprised that Ok State pulled off the win.
Wisonsin got THUMPED, the Gay Domers couldn't hang with UNC at the end, and Meechigan lost to god damn Toledo...What a weekend!

Quick, I need some more loyal I-mock folk to help toot the shit out my horn:
I think Michigan will struggle this year not because of DickRod himself but because of the switch to the spread offense. Michigan has a lot of talent, but the QB's they have now aren't necessarily what you look for in a spread QB, ie a mobile runner who can make plays just as much out the pocket as in. It's a transition season for Michigan but give DickRod a few seasons and Michigan will be contending for a National Championship.

Colonel, the MN/NW game was absolutely crushing. We were driving down field, presumably going for the win, and NW pulled the Pick 6 to seal the deal. Unbelievable, really. My head was firmly in my hands after that one.

Alright kids, I've stopped being lazy on these boards so here is What to Watch For in this wild wacky world of College Foosball:
Washington vs. Wazzou - Why should I watch this you ask? Well, these are arguably the two worst teams in all of D1 football vying for in state bragging rights. Sounds fun.
Illinois vs. Northwestern - Illinois needs this win to become bowl eligble and Northwestern jockeys for bowl positioning. Talk about a disapointing year for the Illini.
17 Michigan State vs. 7 Penn State - Michigan State has a chance, with some help from Michigan, to win the Big Ten title.
9 Boise State vs. Nevada - Can the Wolfpack play the spoiler of BSU's BCS dreams?
16 BYU vs. 8 Utah - BYU tries to spoil Utah's BCS hopes as well as the Kingz of Utah Championship Belt.
20 Pitt vs. 19 Cincinatti - Big East crown written all over this one.
Iowa vs. Minnesota - Witness the last collegiate game ever played in the worst stadium in all of sports; the HHH MetroToiletDome.
Michigan vs. 10 Ohio State - Need I say More?
5 Oklahoma vs. 2 Texas Tech - Once again, do I have to Explain. BTW...Sooners by 7.

As I see it (watching it at the moment so it is unfolding partially as I am about to say it will) Rodriguez has no respect for MU tradition. He is so much like John Cooper it is scary. As such, I don't think it will be good for MU in this game because Dick Rod will not take this game like Tressel, Hayes, Schembechler, or even Carr would.
Thus far, MU's offense is abysmal. However, so is OSU's offense as Prior is having a slow start to say the least. I expect once Prior shakes this funk off though, he will kick MU in the teeth.

It will take another season at the minimum for Dick Rod to get his personnel and system in place. It is not time to panic. Minnesota coach Tim Brewster went 1-11 last year implementing the spread offense to a team that had less talent than Michigan and a style of play that was suited to a traditional power Big10 team. This year he's bowl eligible and has a chance to go 8-4 in his second season. The parallels between the two schools' situations are striking.
It is not time to panic in Ann Arbor. Michigan will be just fine and within a few years they'll be competing for a national title.

CROWD CHEERED METRODOME SEXCAPADE
Last update: November 25, 2008 - 3:38 PM
While the Iowa Hawkeyes were scoring at will on the field Saturday night, two fans from the Hawkeye State also were scoring elsewhere in the Metrodome.
Police say that a man and woman were "having relations" in one of the bathroom stalls as a crowd cheered them on.
The man, 26 and from Linden, Iowa, and the woman 38 and from Carroll, Iowa, were cited for misdemeanor indecent conduct. He was released to his girlfriend and she to her husband, police said.
A security guard came upon the scene in the handicapped stall, police said. Police were summoned, and they separated the two.
Both were intoxicated, said Deputy Police Chief Chuck Miner.

Report: Woman In Dome Sex Act Says Life Is Ruined
By PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune
Last update: November 26, 2008 - 3:31 PM
The Iowa woman who was caught having random sex in a Metrodome bathroom before a cheering crowd of onlookers Saturday during the Iowa-Minnesota football game said she was so drunk on wine that she doesn't remember anything about the incident, the Des Moines Register reported this afternoon. "It's ruined my life," Lois Feldman, 38, of Carroll, told the Register.
Feldman, a married mother of three, told the newspaper that she was fired today from an assisted living center, where she had been an administrator.
"I don't know what happened," Feldman told the Register. "But I don't deny that it did happen, because obviously there are police reports."
University police cited Feldman, and Ross M. Walsh, 26, of Linden, Iowa, for indecent conduct.
Feldman said she'd never met Walsh.
"I don't know who this man is," she told the Register. "I just found out his name in the paper."
A security guard discovered the two having sex in a handicapped stall, police said. Police were summoned, and they interrupted the two.
Walsh was released to his girlfriend and Feldman to her husband, police said.
Police say that Walsh had also been drinking.

Feldman said her husband, Kelly, has been supportive. She said he faults himself for not going with her when she left her seat to use the restroom before halftime.

WhiteRat
Nov 30th, 2008, 12:37 AM
They need to switch conferences for parity's sake in regards to the WAC.
BSU goes to the mountain West. TCU goes to the Big 12. Iowa State becomes the twelfth team in the Big Ten (conf. championship now baby!), and lowly down-trodden San Diego State goes back to the WAC. Either that or they get rid of the football program, which was something I read about last week.
PROBLEMS SOLVED EVERYONE IS HAPPY!

I was thinking tournament. Top 8 regardless of conference. Never has there been a number 9 who had a legitimate argument that they should play for the title. Everything's decided on the field, it's making the schools and the NCAA money, and everybody can stay in the conference they're in. Now everybody's happy.
EDIT: Oh, okay, you said in regards to the WAC. Yeah, very true. The type of realignment you're referring to would be great.
WhiteRat
Nov 30th, 2008, 12:55 AM
I'm all for a top 8 tournament along with keeping the rest of the bowls intact. The BCS sorts out the top 8. Those top 8 fight to the death and the rest of the teams still have something to play for.
I think that even if they went to a system that I described, people would still bitch and moan about the BCS rankings. The only way to shut everyone up would be to have at a MINIMUM a 16 team playoff. But that shit just gets drawn out in my opinion.
8 is enough.

It's a Big XII problem more than it is a BCS problem in this case, because their tie-breaker sucks a fat one. The circular argument of Texas beat Oklahoma who beat Texas Tech who beat Texas is irrelevant in terms of the BCS rankings. UT and OU are 3 and 2 respectively. Tech isn't even in this discussion. A plus one model would work for circumstances like this, but even then the system is flawed. The BCS should be boycotted by schools and fans alike.

Really? The BCS is flawed?
If there is to be any sort of playoff, the games should be played in the north and south. I want to see Florida or Miami come up to Minneapolis, Columbus, or Ann Arbor in December for a bowl game and see how they like the cold. Imagine the northern teams having to play basically 3 or 4 playoff games in basically what would be road games in the south.
Regardless of what system is in place, people will always bitch and moan. It's the nature of college football and frankly i've accepted it.

I hate Weis and Notre Dame with a passion, but I think ol' fatboy should get one more year to prove that he's not a complete failure as a coach. He's pulled in top talent and that alone, to me at least, warrants one more year at the most. I want him to fail but he brought in a top 5 class last year and is looking like he'll bring in at least a top 10 this year. At least 8 wins next year or his fat ass is gone.

Hope you saved room for dessert because this is the last What To Watch For of the collegiate season:
12 Ball State vs. Buffalo - Do not be surprised if Turner Gill's Bulls pull the upset.
Army vs. Navy - This is always a fun game to watch, no matter what the teams' records.
5 USC vs. UCLA - Only relevant because of what happened last time in Pasadena...
19 Missouri vs. 4 Oklahoma - Can the Tigers play BCS Championship Game spoilers?
1 Alabama vs. 2 Florida - Talk about everything being on the line in this one. I have to go with Florida on this one. They have been absolutely dominating this year (aside from the Ole Miss loss, but in retrospect, a 1 point loss to an 8-4 Rebel team isn't really that bad, is it?) and although i'm impressed with Alabama, they don't seem to have that killer instinct as they haven't really put the beat down on teams and they also have a tendency to let inferior teams hang around for too long, ie Tulane, Miss State, Tennessee.

BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II....US Ranked 4th
After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.
"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."
Questioned about the #4 ranking of the United States the BCS commissioner stated "The US only had two major victories-- Japan and Germany . The computer models, unlike humans, aren't influenced by head-to-head contests--they consider each contest to be only a single, equally-weighted event."
German Chancellor Adolph Hiter said "Yes, we lost to the US ; but we defeated #2 ranked France in only 6 weeks." Herr Hitler has been criticized for seeking dramatic victories to earn 'style points' to enhance Germany 's rankings. Hitler protested "Our contest with Poland was in doubt until the final day and the conditions in Norway were incredibly challenging and demanded the application of additional forces."
The French ranking has also come under scrutiny. The BCS commented " France had a single loss against Germany and following a preseason #1 ranking they only fell to #2."
Japan was ranked #3 with victories including Manchuria, Borneo and the Philippines

I'm thinking Bradford is going to get it. His passing numbers are just way better than Tebow's and (with some help from the Big XII brain trust) he's taken his team further than McCoy. All three are deserving. The Heisman has lost a lot of its luster in my eyes, and only moreso that they snubbed Graham Harrell this year. Fiesta Bowl is boring. I guess Texas is mailing it in because they know they're not getting a National Championship. They're still beating Ohio State, though, so if they can sleepwalk and still beat the no. 10 team then to me they're an elite team.
Can't believe College Football season is already over. :(

Minnesota lost it's Offensive AND Defensive coordinators in the same day. Mike Dunbar was basically fired but Ted Roof bolted for more money at Auburn. I pray that we don't lose any recruits over this.

I really hope Utah gets the AP no. 1, regardless of what happens tonight.
Having said that, I think Oklahoma will outspeed Florida. It'll be competitive, sure, but the Sooners will likely be able to put more points on the board.

The Gators have momentum on their side and are playing some lights out defense. Stoops is proving a lot of sportswriters right.

I boycotted the BCS Championship game because it is quite frankly a fraud match.
I did read it was a sloppy crap match though which made me LOL

It wasn't crap, and the sloppiest play came from Tim Tebow on two interceptions that were very uncharacteristic. To say he redeemed himself in the second half is an understatement. Bradford's INTS could've bounced the other way just as easily.
It was just a defensive game, which is something that nobody saw coming. A lot of impressive performances, though. Harvin came through big, Major Wright had the big INT, and Tebow was Tebow. Don't know how he'll pan out in the NFL if he goes, but the guy is the best college player I've ever watched play.
Sportswriters are chicken shit. How you vote against Utah in this instance is beyond me. What the hell does this "BCS Conference" nonsense apply when Utah beat some great teams in a dominant fashion and was the only undefeated team in the nation. If anybody truly believes that the college football regular season is its playoff, then common sense suggests that the team that hasn't lost any games is the champion.
