Has anyone called this the Large Hardon Collider yet? lol

Yeah, Encyclopedia Dramatica did :(

Does somebody actually take this shit seriously?

Dixie
Sep 8th, 2008, 02:34 PM
Yeah, stupid people. Lots of them. One chicken little retard screams about something they don't know anything about and all of a sudden they have the whole chicken coop squawking and parroting them.
Who needs education when you can just speculate that scientists want to kill everybody?

El Blanco

It could be worse. They could be playing that fucking song by Europe all the time.

And how can I get to be the guy that turns it on?

I'd be more amused by them being unable to spot the Higgs boson. :(

I need to find the number for my old physics professor so I can call her up and mockingly screech Neener Neener Nyner.

Wait, no. Can't they hold it off for another 10 days or so? My birthday is the 18th. I'd like to get one last hurrah in.

Did you physics prof say they would never do this or something?

I had an argument with her right before I dropped out that her science would all fall apart if they couldn't find the Higgs boson.

She assured me that she had faith in it being found.

I stamped my foot, wagged my finger and stuttered something about faith's place in science.

Then I went and sat in a stairwell and had a good cry.

The "local kindergarten", you say

DuFresne
Sep 9th, 2008, 11:08 PM
:( Oh... Thursday's activation is just going to be a test of the beams. There won't be any actual particle collisions going on until October 21. Looks like you're good, El Blanco.

VaporTrailx1

I don't think it could create a black hole. That requires the collapse of a star. Which is really really really big. I don't think two protons colliding at the speed of light can do much.

but perhaps, just perhaps theyll rip a hole straight through to another dimension!

Pub Lover
Sep 9th, 2008, 11:31 PM
Hey New Guy, you should've just stopped at "I don't think" because your opinion on physics seems to indicated that you do not at all.

Better yet what if the collider created SUPER PARTICLES and like fuckin' QUASARS

Because im fat and lazy and dont really want to research it, can anyone tell me how this collider is any different from other collieders that they have used? Aside from it being "bigger" that is. And how would it create a black hole when a black hole is dense body of so much mass that the gravitational force is strong enough to pull in light photons and they didnt put that much matter into the collider in the first place?

Pub Lover

You humans, when're you gonna learn that size doesn't matter? Just 'cause something's important, doesn't mean it's not very, very small.

I and few of my friends had this idea of skipping todays lectures and instead roam around the city with signs like "The end is near". Then after the h-hour we would have had a valid reason to go celebrate to a local bar with "physics kick ass" signs.

However, this plan turned out to be way too spontaneous and stupid for us to bear :/

Some girl in India killed herself because she was afraid of dying when the LHC is turned on.

so yea, now its 40 more days again. why?

because they ain't collided shit yet

first they had a countdown because they were testing PART of the track, then they were panicking because they were just sending PROTONS thru it

people need to learn to fucking read already

[15:07] Seth: oh, hello Internet
[15:07] Seth: in short, I would love to do so.
[15:07] Seth: unfortunately, however, you are being neglected in favor of spending time with a girlfriend whom I actually like (for now).

even though we aren't going to die and nothing is going to happen that could harm ANYTHING at all, people who actually think they are going to die kinda have no reason to be freaking out anyway:

if you believe in an afterlife everyone will be there with you + god and whoever so it'll be like nothing happened anyway

if you don't believe in an afterlife then who gives a shit you won't even know you died. it'll just happen and then nothing

:(
