FUCK THIS IS HARD
I used to think I was really good at Mega Man, I guess I just got used to the enemy and boss patterns of 2 and 3. I've tried my hand at Jewel Man, Hornet Man, Concrete Man, Tornado Man and Plug Man's stages. So far I've only gotten to Tornado and Plug Man, and both of them beat me down something fierce.

I didn't think someone could be "good" at Megaman in the same sense they'd be good at, say, Mario Strikers or Team Fortress 2, since it's basically just pattern memorization.
Like Battletoads.

Maybe you need trial and error if you're really bad at it. Otherwise, it's feasible to beat a stage without memorization. Made it to Galaxy Man my first try.
I'm stuck on the third Wily Stage. Made it to the boss, but it's TWO of the yellow devils from MM1, so that's twice the amount of blobs to dodge :(

I think you're "good" at a game like this if you can run through it relatively quickly...yeah, it's pattern memorization, but that doesn't mean you can't be good at memorizing the patterns, it's just a different kind of skill.
Yeah, Galaxy Man is cake...I really tried not to beat him first as I'd heard he was the easiest, but FUCK I can't imagine doing it any other way. I used the black hole against Hornet Man and it made the fight tons easier.
Up to my last one, Concrete Man now.

Got to the first part of the Wily fight. Holy shit, it's really hard and not like any of the other fights. By the time I figured out how to actually deal damage, I was screwed.
I do like the boss room this time, only because I got all 8 Quickdraw Achievements for the robot masters in one go. It was great. I also got Survivor from one of them as well, which felt really good.

Finally beat it...Wily's third form was really giving me trouble. I'd always get careless and get knocked once in his first form, twice in his second and die in the third. Even when I learned the weakness, he wouldn't dare come near me.
I got a few challenges, but nothing of note :x

But I guess there were no Mega Man games on the NES... oh wait, there were. Having played Castlevania: SOTN, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Braid, and Sonic the Hedgehog using my Xbox 360 controller and its joystick, I find that it's pretty precise. Having said all that, yes, I am out of my mind.

Phoenix Gamma

Just walk right to the edge of the pit, shoot the first one that comes up, then jump over.
But fuck Concrete Man's concrete gun. I can dodge every other attack of his except that thing. A spray weapon that can cover nearly half the screen, damages you, AND freezes you in place? What an a-hole.
And I don't like how those earth-shaking attacks can still stun you if they happen when you're a short distance from the ground.

I just beat the game without continuing in 45:something-something...only because every time I'd die on one of the eight robot master stages, I'd restart it so I could shave off that extra time. I loaded the fuck up on E-Tanks and had 9 lives before going into Wily's and only died once because of bad timing on the horizontal laser ladder.
Now that I've done the speedrun challenges, I can spend time on the rest of them...though I don't think I'll ever, ever beat the game without being hit.
What I don't get is how anyone could ever beat the game in only 22 minutes. That's stupid.

So ProtoMan and Endless Stage came out for DLC today. I spent the last of my points on it, because I'm a whore.
Protoman fucking sucks. Sure, he can slide, charge, and reflect shots while jumping. He gets knocked back a mile when hit, and he takes double damage. Wily's first form keeps raping me.
Endless stage is pretty fun, despite my hatred of endless stages. I got 88 screens in before a grabby guy threw me down a spike pit. It was a good run, too.

Well, I think Endless Stage is a lot of fun. It's like a mix between "how far can I get in that flash Helicopter game?" and the normal Mega Man formula.
Protoman is kinda lame, because the abilities are neat, but everything murders his health bar and sends him flying. There's no story and there's no store, so now you can't even compensate for taking double damage by buying shit. It's just disappointing.
I dunno. I wouldn't have downloaded them if I didn't have a few leftover points that I'd never spend.

Not really what I meant you ass. They released this extra content like two weeks after the game's releases which means they had it made in time to add it in the original product instead of holding back content to charge more for. I always felt downloadable content was for or atleast should be for stuff they made after the game release to keep giving fans more not purposfully withholding content in order to charge for it later. Same thing with the Call of Duty 4 maps. Scam

Hm, so I invested the 800 Points and got the game. Being the zen-level-patient being I am, it took me about 1.5 hours to beat all 8 Robot Masters in one sitting and I have to say:
It´s a fun game. Not that easy initially, but since it is just about memorizing the levels, situations and Boss-patterns and after you know in which order to play those stages it gets a lot easier. I guess I´ll try to finish the Wily-Stages tomorrow...sadly you have to do that in one session.
Edit: Aaaand I´m done. Nearly 2 hours playtime...not that bad for the first time I guess.

How the hell do you get through the first Wily stage? The part with the three laserbeams that fire across the screen always kills me.
Depends on how you tackle it. Either:
A) Turn the lasers (magma) into platforms with the Cement Shot. This totally makes perfect sense.
B) As soon as you scroll up, use the Rush Coil to shoot up immediately; there's a small pause when you first approach the screen where none of the magma streams are active. Grab the left ladder, climb up and get the E Tank. Climb back down, and hang as low as you can on the ladder. Use the Rush Jet to fly left and land on top of the laser/magma thing (but not on the blast, of course). Then jet right and grab the right most ladder.
The second way sounds more complicated, but I found it to be way easier and with less risk of fucking it up.

I think it's stupid. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as happy to see the return of classic Megaman like you guys and view those spinoffs as bullshit, but c'mon, what is so wrong with a new Megaman game along the lines of 7 or 8? I mean those were fun changes of pace and had more creative Robot Masters. And kids love Megaman, so it's kinda unfair to make a game only for the nostalgia crowd

Mega Man 8 was really, really really bad.

When you need to physically tell the gamer when to do what action, your level design is shit.

Kids can't love a game with 8-bit graphics? It's a better game than 7 or 8, and, let's face it, "the nostalgia crowd" is smarter than kids are anyway.

You have to admit, 7 and 8 had pretty badass parts like when you fight the robot T-Rex, the Robot Master museum, and don't forget that in 8 you fought one Robot Master in FUCKING OUTER SPACE
7 also had the best boss theme and both games had more unique Robot Masters and fights

I still haven't beaten Hornet Man's stage and I am a horrible person for it

7 and 8 had their moments, sure. I think the decision to go with NES style graphics and gameplay was a good one on the whole. 9 can be really frustrating, but pound-for-pound it's one of the year's best games.

Perhaps Capcom can be persuaded to release Legends 1 or 2 on the XBLA.

Well if they release one they gotta release the other. I just wish they'd make a 3rd Legends already.

They won't do that, because they can never get the Legends team to get back together and do it. They built the Lost Planet engine in hopes of a new Mega Man Legends title.

Never knew that... could've been a kickass 3D Mega Man right there.

I´d love a new Legends...never beat the first two but it was a lot of fun to play.

I like Legends because it doesn't involve me fighting 8 stages in a role and then storming a fortress to fight a wimpy scientist.
Also I enjoy kicking dogs, but that's just me.
