Perhaps listening to too many musical soundtracks has made me too effeminate as of late, the kind of man Arnold Schwarzenegger says are free to leave now.

So I've put on some Dio to help me man up, any other macho suggestions to toughen me up? :domo

Which musical soundtracks do you listen to? I like Chicago & Rocky Horror, but sometimes Moulin Rouge too.

JakeOfAllTrades

Sweeney Todd and The Phantom of the Opera. Keating! The Musical as well (a local Australian production by Company B, which is unapologetically an extravaganza of Aussie political history in the 90s).

Sweeney Todd is a musical that transcends gender, but Phantom and Keating are a bit wobbly in the manly stakes (there's a dance number featuring Alexander Downer in fishnet stockings, not to say anything against people who are into that, it's just that it's Alexander Downer, foreign minister being portrayed in reference to a "Guess Who's Legs" competition he was in)

I've seen the Tim Burton movie of Sweeney Todd, but I'm told it butchered the musical, would you agree?

The Australian politics one sounds interesting, but it is a bit of a niche knowledge base.

@Carnivore is God: I agree, Manowar is so manly, even with "Man" in the title of their band. "Warriors of the World" and "Brothers of Metal" was the soundtrack to my growing up with metalhead nerds.

@Yukiko: I've never actually heard X Japan, but it seems like they have a good combo. Only J-Pop I've ever heard was The World Ends With You soundtrack.

I never really saw the musical, but apparently it goes either way. I've seen people who really like it compared to the musical or really hate it. I personally was just impressed by how well Depp, Carter, Rickman, Spall, and Cohen all sang. Plus it's just fun to say that Perelli was played by Borat. :)

Mega Deth I can sort of back with, the other two I've never heard. Isn't Dragon Force too much of a "fantasy speed metal" to be considered manly? As well as Atreyu and their "Life is lost" sense coming from their album names?

http://froogle.google.com/base_image?size=2&q=music/image/0/06gqZjRVgSJJ.jpg

Seriously, that is MANLY!!!

I'm proposing Rick Astley here, not the best, but sure hell beats fucking Atreyu in manlyness. Bleeding Mascara can lick my ass.

On that note, I'd like to propose my underdog being Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young Deja Vu album.

"Let it Ride" Bachman Turner Overdrive. Listen to that.

"Green Berets" whoever did that song. Motherfuckers.

"They kicked me out of church" Wesley Willis

atreyu

Blow the last candle out. Let the wax harden
I wish I could stop crying. And I wish that someone still loved me [x2]
Just breathe and focus. How can I when the air is so cold and empty,
That my lungs froze right in my chest.
I'll be honest the silver linings are getting harder and harder to manufacture
And the smiles are so difficult to fake.[x2]
What do I have to do, or who do I have to kill, to get what I want. What I need[x2]
Happiness is an emotion I was born to this world without,
nothing pleases me. And I can never be satiated.
Through this toil I will breed my own distress and destroy my best hopes,
f**k up the only things that I love.
I watched my aspirations crashing to the ground, on the backs of the angels that I've slain.
But I meant so well, I tried so hard, gave everything in my soul, to what end, to what end
Desolation, desire, exhale, pass away. [x3]

MANLY

I've had kind of a bad day today, and it made me irritable. I have cooled of so lets just let it be, ok? also, I have ADD, not autism. I know someone with autism. I am much different. what I meant by "on the internet, there is no way to tell sarcasm or insult" was that that this is all text. their is no voice to get the tone of voice from. what you see is what you get. truth be told, I've never even really ever listen to atreyu. I cant stand them. but saying that now, none of you will probably agree with me on that. the only reason I replied as fast as I did was I was bored, and was hanging around here. I here by apologize for all stupidity and douche-ry I have done. do you accept?

I don't think enough has been said about how bad Dragonforce is on this forum. Let me help. I could safely say that if Rhapsody of Fire, Yngvie Malmsteen, and John Tesh had an overblown, pyrotechnic gay sex orgy and somehow gave birth to unholy mutant bastard children, and said hellspawned abominations formed an insufferable, meandering, and fucking lame band, that band would be Dragonforce.

As for Megadriver, well, they use a drum machine.

Bay Area and German Thrash Metal. Exodus, Sodom, Kreator, Destruction, Metallica's Kill 'em All, Megadeth's 80s albums, Testament's 80s albums...

Guess that's the manliest I can think of (not to mention death metal, but I think it's too caricate - 'cept for Morbid Angel, Death and, to a lesser extent, Cannibal Corpse and Napalm Death - though these are actually grindcore, but meh).

Manowar is manly music.
