Who Makes the Best Spicy Food

Indian? Mexican? Thai? Something else? What's your favourite?

Personally as much as I like a nice hot chilli you really can't beat Indian curry for flavour and heat. My personal favourite is Madras.

That said the main advantage of Mexican food is you can add cheese and jalapeños which don't work in curry. Mexican ingredients can also be converted into pizza more easily which is a big plus.

oh god this one time i went over to my friends house who was an indian and his wife was cooking this ridiculous rice. It was made with mint and maybe black peppers and as ssoon as you walk into the house you start coughing and your mouth starts burning and your eyes water so i stood outside till it was done :( then i started eatting it and it was the hottest fcking thing ive ever had

I was eating at an Indian restaurant and the owners were kinda familiar with my x and I by then. Well I forget what I ordered but he asked me if I wanted it American hot or Indian hot. I said Indian hot because my reasoning is that Americans are the only idiots in the world who would make something HOT for no reason at all, there for Indian hot would be nice and soothing and full of flavor! I was sooooooo fucking wrong. The were watching me by the brick oven to see if I was going to eat the whole thing. I did it out of egao and they had a great time.

I was raised with Telegus so I'm a south-indian food snob. Unfortunately all of the restaurants around here are owned by north Indians who can't make decent sambhar or idlis so I do it myself.

But I love thai peanut sauce too.

I like it all. When I was in Texas I could get Cajun at Razzoo's. When I lived in San Diego there were lots of great Indian restaurants. Mexican cuisine was easy to find there, too. Good Mexican joints in Chicago are all over the place.

But when it comes to really good spicy food, I have to give props to a soul food establishment in my home town I used to frequent about 10 years ago. Don't recall the name, which doesn't matter because it's since closed. But it's spicy catfish was off the hook. They also made a cheese steak with lots of hot peppers. OMG I crave... CRAVE that food. Sigh. Only in dreams.

There's a dive near me that serves the hottest chicken wings - I also had some great hot wings at a bar in Cincinnati.

A place in Cedar Rapids called "The Lark" served me roast beef with ground horseradish that made me sweat blood (I exaggerate a little of course).

The supermarket next town over serves "shooters" at the olive bar - pepperincini stuffed with prosciutto and provelone. Combine this with whiskey and you've got all four food groups in your mouth at once.

I love all spicy food, though I don't ever remember having Cajun. We get a lot of really kick arse Asian available here, and I would be hard pressed to easily pick one as favourite, but I think I have enjoyed Indian the most, and chicken tikka masala is the best out of that. Yes, I know it's a British dish. I make rather good curries, too. I think.

It doesn't have to be hot all the time, but you can't beat a runny nose.

I have a high tolerance for spicy-ness I think. The hottest thing i've ever tasted was some hot sauce I bought from a specialty hot sauce shop called Pepper Palace. Nice name, right? :rolleyes So i guess if sauce counts as food, Mexicans win flawless victory.

A Level 10 curry sauce was absolutely unbearable. I finished a quarter of the plate at best. I like to think I have a high tolerance for spicy food but I could never eat anything over a Level 5 and actually enjoy it.

The waiver part is a total gimmick, but the sauces themselves are not. They're made to be used with a drop or two in an entire meal for a group o' people (like a big gumbo, stew, etc.)... not the kind of sauce you'd dip a tortilla chip in or anything though.

I used to use Dave's Endorphin Rush a drop at a time in my baked beans. Similar scoville ranking, and an explosive combination.

Every year there's a hot sauce convention at Jungle Jim's. Last year we went, thought it was going to be awesome but it really wasn't...it was just lots of people at tables selling their indie hot sauces. There weren't a lot of samples, there wasn't an especially festive atmosphere...was like being at a trade show :(

Being poor, I cook about 95% of what I eat. If I want heat I use serano or Thai chiles. The former for latin foods, the latter for asian style dishes. If I want to use dried ingredients I go with red pepper flake for "front of the mouth heat" and cayenne for "throat heat". I don't like bottled "Hot Sauces".

Some are getting confused between spicy and hot.

Spicy means adding zing to a flavour and tastes good.

Hot is covering a flavour (usually because the meat is bad) and in this age of refrigerators is totally unnecessary, being the sport of chavs after 10 pints of weak lager. They think it's a test of manliness how hot a curry they can get in their fat mouths. You may as well sprinkle gun-powder on their food. And then they leave piles of puke on the pavement for shoppers to tread in the next day.

Thai is the best.
