View Full Version : Buying a non-Apple MP3 player

Does anyone have a suggestion for a good MP3 player?

I don't want an iPod because I don't want to deal with iTunes and all that copy protection bullshit, I just want to be able to move files easily to and from my player without needing proprietary software or clever workarounds.

Beyond that, I just need a couple gigs of space because it will never be going far from my computer. And a simple interface without too many OMG SO COOL frills. No video playing or Bluetooth or any of that.

Thanks.

Sandisk makes great ones. I have a Sansa Clip, (a 1 gig version), but they come in up to eight. It blows the Shuffle out of the water, partly due to the fact that it has a screen and doesn't just randomly cycle through the songs on yer player. Other players Sandisk makes are good, too. They tend to take a lickin' and keep on tickin'

Also, things that Samsung, iRiver, and Sony are good as well.

Check these sites out for me detailed reviews:

Thanks, dude. Looks like the Sansa Fuze is the one for me. I want something that fits comfortably in my hand, and the Clip looks just too small.

I got a Sansa Fuze 8GB for $100. So far it's treating me well.

I had a Sansa View 8GB once, it's a great player, but 2 things:

1. It can't handle a single large playlist, sloooow processor or something.

2. The screen is fragile to the point of bullshit. Seriously, why put something that flimsy on a piece of mobile equipment?

Now I just use Moonshell via CycloDS, it's awesome.

Could it handle all the mad break beats you put on it or did you have to buy a commercial product like Ipod for that?

And there's no use reporting this post because it would be reported to me and I'm not very hard on myself at all

Bought a 30gb Zune two years ago and I couldn't be happier with it.

I can't stand Ipods, so I bought this:

Philips 2 GB Flash MP3 Player with FM Radio

I didn't get it yet, but it looks good.

My player after the ZEN Sleek Photo and the RCA Lyra and the 20GB Zune and the Sansa View (I have terrible luck with players) was the RCA OPAL 2GB, it looks like a little flash drive complete with USB plug, it has a microSDHC slot, and it's only $40. I broke the screen on the first one (which i now use as a SDHC reader) and got a second one, until I got my CycloDS, which means I now use Moonshell exclusively. :3

I use a 2gb Sansa. I love it, though the screen is all messed up now.

Please note that the battery powered battery charger has no power adapter and must be charged by another battery powered battery charger. Because of this the minimum purchase is two (2) units.:lol
