Play the demo now people. I can't describe how well the constant companion plays, its more complicated but not frustrating. Its fun, fast, and makes your heart race.

I played though both levels of the demo and I had a couple of issues with it.
Firstly the good:
- Looks great.
- Cool enemies (chainsaw guy is probably my favourite that I saw, but the massive axe dude looked cool too).
- Decent scripted sequences.
Secondly the bad:
- Resident Evil has (and apparently always will have) really dreadful controls. I just can't stand how you need to run away from an enemy then spin round and shoot it. It feels so awkward. It's like controlling a walking turret or something.
I'm not saying it should just rip off something like Gears or Uncharted and I can see some merit in the awkwardness as it often inspires panic when you're being chased or whatever, but it makes playing such a chore.
- I have difficulty seeing what's going on. Half the screen is covered by your character and it's just annoying more than anything. The camera needs to be moved back a bit or something. Again I don't know if they did this on purpose to make the experience feel more claustrophobic but even sitting 2 meters away from a 52 inch TV I still had moments where I couldn't see what the fuck was going on.
- I have a feeling that having a companion may lessen the tension of the game slightly. In previous/similar games the fact that you're alone adds to the experience.

I don't think I could have been more underwhelmed. It's weird, 'cause I loved RE4. But it's so antiquated. I don't think there's anything about it that says it can't be released on the PS2.

I tried the demo the other day. Frankly, I hate any game that forces you to have an AI partner, especially when you have to divide up your limited resources with them. I could deal with the partner aspect of RE4 because there were long periods without the partner, and if you wanted, you could just have her hide in a dumpster while you took care of things.
I was glad that she at least managed to avoid getting constantly injured, but whenever I gave her ammo, she would just shoot the zombies in the chest over and over again until she was out.
And the tradeoff for the addition of a partner and the realtime inventory system is that all the big zombies (axe guy, chainsaw guy, etc) are slower to react. I guess it's only a demo and they could wind up fine tuning stuff in the game, but I doubt they'll make any significant changes to the game. I'll probably just rent it.

Feb 8th, 2009, 06:56 PM
There is way too much ammo I thought. I was being forced to give it to her because my clips were always filling up. All of this seemed to pile up on the pressure for me, and I liked that. In addition to your partner finding and giving you items automatically is a tradeoff that seems to be working so far too.
My first impression was that an AI partner would totally suck, so I went into this thinking it was going to be awful, so I might be a little more in love with it than I should be just by my suprise factor on how much better it worked than it should have.
It also looks like people really get pissed when a game doesn't have tons of bloom lately, assuming the graphics aren't up to par. Not accusing anyone here, but I liked how sharp everything looked.

Since this game is, as was Part 4, is not Resident Evil (and no, I don´t get tired of this discussion), I will dub it "Infected Shooter 2". And if I view it as another completely unrelated game, I can have fun with it. The controls are stiff and Muscleboy behaves like a tank (something they DID retain from the original titles) but I am still looking forward to playing it with a friend.
What I don´t like is, that they got rid of the merchants apparently, so you can just buy weapons and upgrades after each level (another thing they shouldn´t have done).
Finally, the setting: How much worse could it get I ask you? What setting could have been worse for such a game? A sunny flowergarden with bunnies, that´s what. Africa is VERY close to that.
Sunny bright levels. That is pretty much 100% pure Bullshit. IF1/RE4 at least got the setting right most of the time, but this time, they seem to throw everything out of the window just to be "fresh".
It will still be plenty of fun, but the good old days of the original series are obviously gone forever...which is sad.

I hate when every single horror FPS or genre does something in the dark, it's great that capcom is finally trying to make daytime scary. Something i wish they would try in most horror movies.

I liked the idea of it happening during the daytime. I haven't played it but I read about the blur factor where if you run out from a dark alleyway into a bright sunny area your eyes need time to adjust. I'm sure it won't be just open areas during the daytime the whole way through either. RE4 had varied landscapes and it worked out well.

The thing is...most of the things that are scary in the dark are not scary in the daylight. It´s only natural, it´s our time, no need to be scared.
At night, a Zombie is the symbol of the soulless soldier from hell, pushing forward for all eternity.
In the bright light of the african sun, it´s just a half rotten corpse, waiting to be disposed of.
And in case of IS2/RE5, it´s just some guy from a shantytown with an insect in his head...oooooh scary. Not.

I guess. To me, the series has been more about the horrific monsters coming at you and the limited ammunition. Besides, you still see the monster stuff with the villagers when you pop their heads off. I remember being freaked out early on when I blew the head off one, but then he pulled out another axe and continued to advance on me.

I would rather call it Panic-inducing. Itīs not scary in the "classic" sense. The Ganandos seem strange and potentially dangerous, given their numbers and Leonīs lack of decent weapons, but they are not scary. They are just some guys with hatchets that behave violently.
And for me, thereīs still a difference between
"Cloudy, dim light-afternoon in a rotten-somewhere-at-the-end-of-spain-village with a bunch of people with red eyes you canīt figure out yet"
and
"Bright sunny noon in a dusty shantytown somewhere in Africa with a bunch of people with something you already know going on."
The Bagmen are partially scary because of the bags that conceal their faces and their unnatural strenght.
To me, thereīs a difference between scary and threatening. The Regenerators, those were scary (lack of face, twitching, non-human appearance).
Now REAL Zombies on the other hand have a lot more potential because normally they induce the fear of having your humanity, your mind stolen from you. One bite, and your done for, you WILL join them in their everlasting strife for flesh until someone puts you down or is bitten by you, spreading the plaque even further.
This doesnīt apply to the Resident Evil Series of course, since the enemies just kill you (with the two Outbreak games being the exception). Just wanted to point it out.

True, absolutely true, but Iīm a traditionalist when it comes to Zombies, I prefer mine slow, dumb and harmless :)
Thatīs what I liked about the old Resident Evil games: That cozy feeling you got. It was just nice, like an old couch. A bit smelly but very comfortable. Even back then I would always be disappointed when the "Zombie-Stage" of the game ended and they were replaced by Hunters and whatnot.

The loss of humanity bit was present in the RE4 zombies, too. They were the product of the same zombifying virus as the other zombies, and you spend the better part of the game trying to get yourself cured after you become infected.
And even if you ignore that bit because there was no set time limit or anything for completing the game, the loss of humanity from a single bite just doesn't occur in any game with zombies, not even the first few RE games. And it doesn't occur because that would be a sucky, frustrating game.

While RE4 was awesome and enjoyable, I didn't like the fact that it wasn't scary. The game managed to be somewhat creepy or give few scares (chainsaw guy) at some points, but other than that it was just a run & gun action game. They should've taken more advantage of the pressing feeling of being alone by pouring hordes of ganados against the player to create panic, instead of just using small groups.
My friend who has played the demo said that the demo had a huge mob attacking the player from every direction, so I'm looking forward to it.

It's apparently between speculation and truth:
On August 27, 2008, rumors began circulating about a possible remake in the same style as the GameCube remake of the original game, to appear on the Wii. According to the rumors, parts of the game will use the same viewpoint as Resident Evil 4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_4), with new story elements and a new knight-like creature.[44] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_2#cite_note-43) On November 13, 2008, during a interview with Jun Takeuchi on Eurogamer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurogamer), Takeuchi talked about how after Resident Evil 5 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_5), he would like to remake Resident Evil 2.[45] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil_2#cite_note-44)
If we had the chance to go back and remake Resident Evil 2…you know, I think there is the demand for it. It’s certainly something we would like to consider and think about, but, quite frankly our hands are full with Resident Evil 5 right now, and trying to get that out of the door, so we’re going to have to put all of our focus on Resident Evil 5 for the moment.
I hope it's true. Resident Evil Remake was so awesome I'd love to see how the RE2 remake would look like.

i enjoyed this game quite a bit, and i've never played re4. at first i was confused over the fact that you can't move and shoot, but i realized that being a human tank/turret is pretty much a staple of the series. and i wouldn't call it a survival horror game but rather something like a survival panic game. it's extremely hectic, tense, and panicky, but doesn't really scare as much as it could. certain parts of the game really bank on the panic-ness, like when you get grabbed by a majini from the front and they grab both your arms trying to eat your face. the camera suddenly jerks, controller vibrates, and there's this light pulsing sound that just makes your heart beat. i hate to fall back on the fact that parts of the game are excused because of previous efforts, but i have to :(

Me, him and my sister ended up switching co-op through it to switch things up. So much fun though. I like the idea that you can only upgrade weapons so much before progressing through the story for further upgrades.
I'm really good with headshots. I noticed though later on...
If you just use headshots the Las Plagas things pop out more often. Can anyone confirm this? I've been trying to aim more for leg or arm shots to stun then. Run up and uppercut them instead.

About headshots...
Yea I found this to be the case myself. In one room I had 3 of those guys after me at once and it sucked. After that I just started shooting for the knees. I also have the standard handgun (cant remember what its called but the one you start with) upgraded fully, aside from the capacity, and it seams as if it takes as many shots to the chest to kill them as it does in the leg to make them drop. So now I just shoot without much of a care. If I run out of handgun ammo I have like 500 rounds of machine gun ammo just taking up space. Its not like ammo is really hard to come by. If you dont mind cheating to much... if you quit your game it doesnt save the level but it does save your inventory. So if you find a checkpoint that has a good stash right after you can pick it all up then quit and reload a few times and stock up on whatever you need.

Im still playing it by myself. Its not so bad. Before I got it I heard how bad the AI was and that she blows through ammo and cant hit shit and so on. So I took her handgun from her and just turned her into a pack mule for the first half of the game before I ever even gave her a gun. Turns out she isnt half as bad as people make her out to be. I gave her a sniper rifle at first and she does pretty good. She doesnt go off shooting at everything and when she does shes really not a bad shot. Right now I have her with a snipper rifle and a shotgun.

He is all hopped up on viral hoppers. Dont worry to much about it he is really a pussy. Just slowly back away from him and wait for him to do his wanna be hadouken, then pop him in the face once or maybe twice if your quick. Side step a little and again if you are fast you can get in another shot in his side or back when he is done sliding around.

It was really really cool when it came out because it reunited Chris and Claire. I don't know if I could go back to it now because of the tank controls. The Teamster Zombies were a laugh riot though. At the very least I recommend reading a synopsis of it.

Will do on the synopsis.
I hated the originals, simply because of their terrible controls. The farthest I got on RE1 was a little past the dog-through-the-window hall. then gave up in frustration.

Just think of those characters as a human tank or truck, after a while you will not only be able to play with those stiff controls, but also make some tank/truck-noises when turning and running.

Whoa, much appreciated; I'm gonna have to pick that up ASAP.
I've always wanted a zombie game based off of WWZ; thousands of zombies, all mindless automatons, in a real-world setting. Like Dead Rising, only the zombies actually attack you.

The old mindless shambling zombies of Romero were a metaphor for slow impending death that is unavoidable by all. How they creeped and lurked around every corner. You could easily bypass them by zipping by or destroying them but you knew Death is still coming for you. Death would prevail given time.
The new zombies(zoombies) relate more to fear and panic. Don't get me wrong, the slow zombies still personified fear and panic but you could stratagize and take some time to get around/avoid them(death). Now with the more fast paced Zoombies you have less time to think about how to avoid death. Much how modern society is now. Fast paced with little to no time to think what you're going to do to save your own life let alone the ones you care deeply for.
LS: You're welcome. :)

Whats the point of this zombie makin stuff? I can see where Wesker is going with all this, but what about Umbrella and the other corporation(s)? What would they get out of making the virus? To sell it as a weapon? An overpriced weapon that can still be taken down with an AK?

I've said my friend Paul is an asshole but I forgot how fucking uncooperative he is. We're were playing the level where you have to defend the guy who's fixing the elevator and the Manjini's are coming from all directions. We get to the 2nd level and I set a landmine for chainsaw guy to walk on. Chainsaw walks around it while I'm fighting a horde of regulars by myself because Paul is just waiting by the exit. I double and even triple back over the landmine while avoiding chainsaw. Still nothing. Then Paul is like
"Yo, let's go. I found a landmine, we can sell it."
I'm like "You fucking asshole! You mean the landmine I told you I set down for chainsaw?!?!"
Paul: "Dude, don't worry about it....let's hurry up."

Long explanation
I have a new roommate moving in a few days ago so he should be in by tuesday(He went to Bamboozle). I need a 100 foot ethernet cord to run from my room to the living room. New roommate works at best buy so he can get the cable at cost basically. He'll be back Tuesday but we're getting drunk and going to the Bouncing Souls. Wednesday we're going to pick up Live and get the cable.

Only tried the experimental facility twice with my roommate who's not as good. I was okay until 30 lickers came out of the woodwork.
I had to come up with some code words for the mini-bosses so I can yell to my roommate that one of them is coming.
I've been calling the Executioner Manjini Big Smoothie because he's large and smooth as a goon with his cleaver. Personal favorite is Big Whhoopps so far. The large Manjini with a club and the invincible headwear in the village. He's comes at you and he's all like "WHHOOPP WHHOOPP!" and then clubs you in the face. Then opens a can of whoop on you with the Big Boot.
I still need to get xbox live.

Yes yes, finally got to play this game too (don't buy any game unless its cheap as a rule), and I like it a lot. I understand how people don't like it because it doesn't measure up to RE4, but that game is a part of gaming history as far as innovation and originality go, so its pretty hard to top. I only beat it once, and haven't gotten to all the new content, and as an old resident evil storyline fag I appreciate what they were going for, but for the ironic brilliant writing of 4, I was unsatisfied overall. Its a great game compared to everything else on the market, but as for the bar the capcom has set for the series, it falls short. I'll be holding on to the game for sure though.

I'm playing through veteran for the first time and trying to speed run it, but jesus fuck cunt your partner is a piece of worthless shit. Not that they don't do anything, I expect that, but they tend to stand directly the fuck in the middle of your line of sight when you are playing defensively (backing up a lot). And in veteran I do that a fuck of a lot. I end up shooting blindly through them frequently because instead of getting behind me immediately, they have to pause after we stop moving, figure out that I am trying to shoot at something, THEN MOVE THREE SECONEDS LATER. Narrow corridors are the worst for this, because nomatter which direction I move they are in the way. And I can't set them to attack on veteran or else they'll kamikaze and I'll end up dying trying to save them. FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. And it isn't like I'm even having that hard of a time, I rarely die, but I end up getting hit when I shouldn't have way too fucking much.

So i beat this game with my buddy a little while ago and i thought the ending was not quite as cheesy as the last one, so i was satisfied. As a die-hard racist gamer, i enjoyed killing minorities in whatever context the game desired more than i enjoyed killing the so-called "monsters", so i think that really speaks to this game's character as a racial motivation tool.
