View Full Version : The new Terminator movie

Looks surprisingly good. I don't get why there's suddenly a Cylon "I didn't know I was a robot!" quality to them when they're supposed to be the first versions and all previous Human models acted incredibly robotic, but aside from that, looks really entertaining.

I just watched a 2 min long trailer today. I should be enertaining, I don't think there is gonna be a whole lot of action though.

What I always wondered about the Terminator series is that if SkyNET could create robots with living tissue covering them, and create a time machine, how come it couldn't just make some sort of supervirus to kill off the remaining humans? That will probably end up being a plot element somewhere in 4 or 5 I'm sure.

Trailers always look like that. Transformers for example. I just get the feeling that a lot of storyline is involved. Oh and I read this today.
"Bale told McG that if he could refine the script to the point where it could be read on stage without any special effects and still be a compelling story, he would agree to star in it."

I think it'll have more action sequences than any of the first 3.

That's a stretch. T2 is one of the greatest action movies ever.

Correction - he totally ruined number three. He's too friggin' old and out of shape to play that character any more. Without looking like a robot he's just a really poor actor.

Number three ruined number three, if you consider it a bad movie. Which I should've figured the refined, Julliard trained, AFI certified film buffs around here would. And if his face/voice is in it (as has been rumored) then he's still portraying the Terminator character. All the best action stars are bad actors, anyway, or at least one-dimensional. I don't know what kind of art house action movie you'd expect, but don't hold your breath for Sean Penn or Johnny Depp playing the T-800.

Exactly they're all rather poor at acting but at least Segal, Lundgren, Stallone etc. are still in shape. The only thing arnie had going for him was his robot-like appearane and now he's lost that he's just another bad actor.
pac-man
Mar 9th, 2009, 08:42 AM
Just another bad actor? Actually, he's just another governor of California. Round is Steven Segal's shape. The last movie Lundgren starred in that got any attention was Universal Soldier about 15 or more years ago. I digress...
I'd blame a dozen people behind the scenes for the things I don't like about T3 before I even thought about saying Arnie was too old for it; I seriously doubt anyone around here has any room to talk about physiques, especially since Arnold was still ripped in Rise of the Machines.

I dunno what I think of this one. To me, one big element of the Terminator series was the fate element. Sara, John, and the various Terminators knew what the future was, so they try to change it somehow. There's the whole "no fate" thing, but there's also the Terminator saying that Judgement Day can't be changed, only stalled. Now that Judgement Day's happened, I don't see how there can still be that element of fighting the future.

You can have a Terminator from the end of the war go back and try to kill John Conner at the begining of the war. Then you have the future fighting the even-more-into-the-future.
How's that fighting the future for 'ya!

How bought just have the movie as the war itself without anyone being sent back through time. They've been talking been talking about this war for 3 films now. It's time to show the damn war. BTW, wouldn't it be interesting if they made a Terminator movie where SkyNet sent robots into the future to rebuild itself incase it was defeated. You know when they'd least suspect it? Like in the year 2100?

Some theories say that you can't go forward in time, only back. So if you traveled back in time, there is no hope for you going back to the future and you live in a loop.

I was thinking about that too! It would be total hell to be stuck in a Ground Hogs day scenario.

Mar 10th, 2009, 09:51 PM
It wouldn't be to bad. Say you were stuck in Ground Hogs day scenario BUT you had $2,000 in your bank account. Everyday you woke up, there would be a constant $2,000 in your bank account every day. Just think about that insane possibilities you could do with that.

alternate ending (possible spoilers)
Okay, now back to McG's big, juicy secret. A secret, by the way, that Bale will back up as you read on.
"There was talk on the Internet about an alternate ending where Connor dies and they take Connor's likeness and put it on top of Marcus Wright's machine body. So that it's actually a machine that's leading the resistance! And the Internet caught wind of that and people went, 'That's bulls---! We don't want that!'"
McG grins. "Well, that's not really what the ending was."
Actually, the bloggers were on the right track. Except, McG adds, the original ending actually went even further.
"Connor dies, okay? He's dead," McG continues. "And Marcus offers his physical body, so Connor's exterior is put on top of his machine body. It looks like Connor, but it's really Marcus underneath. And all of the characters we care about (Kyle Reese, Connor's wife Kate, etc.) are brought into the room to see him and they think it's Connor. And Connor gets up and then there's a small flicker of red in his eyes and he shoots Kate, he shoots Kyle, he shoots everybody in the room. Fade to black. End of movie. Skynet wins. F--- you!"
F--- you, indeed.
We tell the director that this would be the darkest, bleakest summer blockbuster ending of all time. He agrees.
"It's the most nihilistic thing of all time. And Christian went f---ing crazy, of course. He was insistent that it be done that way! He wanted the bad guys to win! Can you imagine the oxygen going out of the theater?! What just happened! It would piss you off! But maybe two years from now, you'd think it was ballsy. But in the end, it just felt like too much of a bummer."
He pauses, thinking about the alternate ending that wasn't. "Maybe we blew it."
McG says the studio had signed off on this original dark-as-night ending. But something about it didn't smell right to him in the end. How could a movie with a reported budget of $200 million and a possible future of sequels possibly end that way?
EW sits down with Bale the next day and tells the star how McG let the cat out of the bag. Bale laughs. "There's not much McG can keep in, is there?"
Was he really, as McG says, gung-ho to shoot that everyone-dies ending?
"I'm not the director," says Bale. "There came to be a different option that almost everyone, except myself, felt was the better way to go. I took a bit of convincing, but you know, at the end of the day, you need a director to make that call."
But doesn't he think that his Salvation would have been a depressing bummer, not to mention suicide at the box office?
"Done the way I saw it? No. But am I disappointed with this one? No.

that alternate ending would have been way better. I was basically hoping everyone would die by the end of the movie anyways(except marcus and kyle the only two actors that actually seemed to do well with the crap they were given)
at least it would have been an obvious fuck you to fans, instead of this shitpile some douchebags actually claim is good. plus maybe it would have saved us from the inevitable shitty sequels.
the rating probably wouldnt have helped it(2x better still sucks), it would have just turned into another Uwe Bowl move. What we needed was a better director, better script, then an R rating might have made it decent. I think the cast was actually pretty good, save Michael Ironside. the guy rules, but what a terrible choice, keep him in the b movies.

It'll be fine on the small screen.
So the main thing is this.
Skynet made a part human mostly machine guy, his name is Marcus. He has a heart and maybe a few other organs. Only he thinks he is all human and is programed to lead John Conner to Skynet to be killed. In the end, Reese (Johns dad) is trapped in Skynet, Marcus leads John there, big fight, all 3 get out except Conner just powned in the heart. Marcus machine guy says, take mine! They then perform heart surgery in the middle of the dirt with out testing for blood type and everything is cool like a snowman. The fucking end.
or is it?

Maybe it would have been a good movie if their was actually meaningful dialogue as well. You know, like explain some plot elements or something. There was almost no real dialogue at all other than between Kyle and Marcus. That was it really.

Agreed.
The one thing that really bothered me was the lack of backstory Marcus had. That could have helped the audience identify with him more I felt. Plus it seemed like they were setting up for it and never did. At the beginning he says how he killed two cops and his brother and evidently feels very bad for it. He later puts his brother's favorite song on the radio. So I was waiting for him to tell someone about what he did that made him comitt the crime and what the crime was
Also, I was rather disappointed with Katherine's lack of involvement. I know she was pregnant but she seemed so tough in T3 and then was hardly in this one
