This has been a long standing favorite.

http://cdn.pitchfork.com/media/6308-the-final-cut.jpg

This album really makes me feel something every time I listen to it.

take all your overgrown infants away somewhere
and build them a home a little place of their own
the fletcher memorial
home for incurable tyrants and kings
and they can appear to themselves every day
on closed circuit t.v.
to make sure they're still real
it's the only connection they feel
"ladies and gentlemen, please welcome reagan and haig
mr. begin and friend mrs. thatcher and paisley
mr. brezhnev and party
the ghost of mccarthy
the memories of nixon
and now adding colour a group of anonymous latin
american meat packing glitterati"
did they expect us to treat them with any respect
they can polish their medals and sharpen their
smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for a while
boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead
safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye
with their favourite toys
they'll be good girls and boys
in the fletcher memorial home for colonial
wasters of life and limb
is everyone in?
are you having a nice time?
now the final solution can be applied

Finding a sitter for 3 kids under the age of 7 and one elder with ASD is a little too challenging, not to mention distracting - I wouldn't enjoy myself.

Now, I suppose I could bring the kids - but this might embarrass me as I would know less of the music than they would. :\

PS. a redo of "A Farewell to Kings" would be awesome. :rock

Danzig really cememted my realization that metal was retarded, mostly by refusing to sing about anything other than Satan and his super best pals. Not that Danzig's solo work generally sucking shit had something to do with it!

Come to think of it, I stopped liking metal at the same time I realized Pink Floyd sucked a prolapsed anus, this cannot be anything but the rapid onset of maturity trying to purge myself of faggotry as I become a manly man

Deep Purple's still neat, though. There must be a scientific explanation for how they've got a keyboard in nearly every song but avoid being gay.

no offense but you have a trout mask replica image in your signature.

safe as milk is awesome. trout mask replica is garbage, and i don't care how many big-name people think it's something great.

but yeah. metal sucks and pink floyd mostly sucks (fuck off, meddle is great) and glenn danzig is glenn fucking danzig.

i checked in on him to see what he's doing, after making a joke about black aria iii. turns out he's working on black aria iii. fuck. i was joking, for fuck's sake! also he's working on a new album, apparently with the help of hank williams iii.

Guitar Woman

Trout Mask Replica's first half is sorta shitty, but from China Pig onward it's pretty good. Even after multiple listenings I've failed to hear what it's trying to come together as; usually that'll happen with confusing double albums after I've dismissed them as generally mediocre. It's definitely not my favorite Beefheart album, I just like the cover art, Sugar n' Spikes, and Veteran's Day Poppy a whole lot.

Bat Chain Puller, on the other hand, is a fucking mad good album. Probably one of my all-time favorites, definitely the best thing Beefheart ever did. Safe as Milk is good, too. I like that all the alternate Strictly Personal songs on the bonus edition are better than the ones they ended up releasing.

a sustained, simplistic, and lingering blues influence paired with a raw, gritty style and good riff work, plus a large number of unrecognized classics like stormbringer, lady double dealer, speed king, and black night will keep your interest for a little while until you suddenly "get over it", briefly become interested in EXTREMELY seventies-period white druggie blues like tommy bolin's private eyes album and atomic rooster's Death Walks Behind You, at which point you will either to continue to fixate on blues/rock and end up with a love of contemporary blues-(ish) artists like Jackie Green and, possibly Clutch if you also veer into Thin Lizzy/lynyrd skynyrd/molly hatchet territory; or you will enact a personal rebellion and reject the blues harder than a Pat boone fan hating on thelonius monk and further develop your love for shit contemporary like the White Stripes, Modest Mouse, and Coldplay, possibly stumbling onto decent Art-pop bands like Trotsky icepick and pride yourself on "discovering" them

dance of death and other plantation favorites is probably my favorite album of his, so check that out if you aren't familiar (even if only for the title track). also, "dry bones in the valley" is an awesome song on an otherwise... different album. it's on an album that has a few guitar duets and then a few songs with a "dixieland jug band" (though the songs they do are good, just... different).

This album is solid, but there's something about Eno that makes me really tired of listening to his albums even if I've only heard it twice (Taking Tiger Mountain, Before and After Science). Here Comes the Warm Jets is my favorite, but there's dozens of other albums I'd pick over it.

Don't worry, your gonna act like you know all about it then in a week call it shit and move on to some other genre that your friends haven't gotten into yet so that you can try to impress them with your big headphones and knowledge about noise that you care nothing about.

Probably not, I'll just stick with The Ramones and The Misfits unless people who aren't idiots tell me about other not-shit punk bands that exist

What inspired me to pick up a Ramones album was that I listen to a fair amount of Grunge, but a lot of it can get really abrasive (which I realize is partially the point, but that doesn't make it sound less shit) and I figured "Hey, grunge is sorta based on punk, that might feature less guitar feedback ear rape but still be fun to listen to maybe"

BatDan
Aug 27th, 2010, 06:19 PM
well that's probably because alot people forgot what real punk is, everything from the mid 80s up to the 00s killed punk in my opinion.

and also Elvis and Clash transcend the punk genre by experiementing with different styles, but they were still true innovators, they had the DIY and in your face attitude, a social and political conscience, they spoke the truth, and above all they created their own unique sound.

EDIT:
"You call that crapfest fun? I suppose listening to babies cry is a great way to spend the afternoon as well".

what's your idea of 'fun' music?

There hasnt been music fun music in a looong time, then again, i hear Lady Gaga and Jonas Brothers are just true inspiring artists, that have a strong intelligent influence on our modern youth and society.

i feel a juicy debate coming on..

BatDan
Aug 27th, 2010, 06:53 PM
i like them too.

but theres other forms of punk, some acts were alot more abrasive raw-rock and roll, like Dead Boys, and Pistols, while some acts were more lyrical based like The Jam, Costello,Clash, John Cooper Clarke was considered punk artist and all he did was spoken word poems, and some acts were just out there like Talking Heads. they all sounded different but they still had the essence and energy of punk.

kahljorn

BatDan

anyway, if ALL artists/bands want to tie themselves down to the generic confines of the way their 'genre' is supposed to 'sound', then that doesnt really help them stand out or mature as musicians does it? :)
