I'm BIG into fighting games, they're all I play nowadays. And this announcement has me SUPER excited

I have a wealth of other information and links available if any of you want them. I can also answer questions about sf4 and the new title because I've been following it rather religiously :rock

i like SF4 and I want to get better at it, but there isn't really a guide on strategy that I can find online

c'est la vie

The first two are universal nub threads, the last shows all the character forums. Don't just register and start asking questions and starting threads though (outside of the first link, you can post the simplest questions you want there because that's what it's for). SF4 brought alot of new people to the forums and the oldies are a little salty that the same questions get brought up everywhere. Those threads have helped, but theres still redundant clutter.

I can personally answer questions that might go under the radar over there or elicit mean responses too.

Do you have to own SF4 to be able to run SSF4, like is it an expansion pack on a stand-alone disc, or can you just buy SSF4, like snes SSF2 style.

Fathom Zero

Standalone, and it'll probably be $40 or thereabout.

Whatever, he's right. It's a disk release, the stated reason is because the changes to gameplay are too deep to release as a DLC. But it will be at a reduced game price.

Changes to gameplay?

Fathom Zero
Oct 2nd, 2009, 10:23 AM
The reason is that there are a lot of changes, comparable to the differences between the "regular" and Super versions of the previous games.

That's deep, man.

I never understood the difference between regular and super. I thought they just added a couple new characters and added the word SUPER to it so the kids would spend more money.

stevetothepast
Oct 2nd, 2009, 10:39 AM
it's deeper than that.

think of it like a pool that you pay 5 bucks to get in, than an extra 2 bucks to get into the deep end.

Dimnos
Oct 2nd, 2009, 10:53 AM
But what? What changes? Do you get extra manga style action lines when you punch them? What?

Chojin
Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:02 AM
Either way, probably best it's its own game. This way tournaments don't have to connect their boxes online to get characters an stuff.

After doing a little digging. Key work being little. Wiki was the only place that had an answer for me.

In addition to refining and balancing the existing character roster from the previous installments, Super Street Fighter II also introduced four new characters

So it balanced existing characters? Couldnt this be done with a patch? I understand that at the time 2 was around you couldnt patch arcade cabinets. Im talking here and now with 4. If the difference between regular and super are the same as it was with 2.

You could always patch arcade cabinets, especially the JAMMA ones. Which SF2 used.

Dimnos
Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:29 AM
Oh yeah? Didnt know that. So why not just patch em then?

Fathom Zero
Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:34 AM
Dunno how big of an update it would be. I couldn't comment on that part.

But I think "TOURNAMENT EDITIONS" are good, and exactly that. I see a market for Super SFIV.

Pretty sure there were update kits for SSF2. Same as Ultimate MK3.

Dimnos
Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:56 AM
Updates for SSF2 or updates that turned SF2 into SSF2? My real question is why make SSF4 its own game instead of just a patch for SF4? Especially with how easy modern consoles connect to the internet.

Dimnos
Oct 2nd, 2009, 11:57 AM
Assuming balancing characters and the addition of a couple new ones is the only difference.

stevetothepast

seeing as I hadn't purchased SF4, I think I will get SSF4 when it comes out.

Dimnos

Im missing the obvious answer... This way they can charge more and thus make more money. :(

Not to say that there wouldn't be enough new shit to make it easy or hard to justify.

It's all middle-ground.

TIFunkalicious

It is 8-10 new characters and they are reworking parts of the games engine, DLC would have been too huge because most Xbox owners don't splurge for the bigger hard drive.

It's still an improvement. ALL NINE installments of SF2 were what, 75$? And those games were so close together that they released an anniversary edition that lets you play all SF2 chars from 5 of the games (essentially like 70 characters, where every group of 5 have only slight differences). I don't think that's going to be possible because they're making real changes to this game.

Dimnos

8-10 new characters? Damn thats a lot. Ok I see why it gets its own release. :lol

NINE?

Street Fighter 2 : World Warrior
Super Street Fighter 2
Street Fighter 2 turbo

I know that genesis was called championship edition if you are including that, and SF Alpha was on snes if your counting that for some reason it is still only 5. What am I missing?

Looks nice. Didn't get SF4 yet, but will buy this instead. I hope Q and Skullomania make appearences

And when are we getting Darkstalkers 4?

Phoenix Gamma
Oct 5th, 2009, 01:52 PM
Darkstalkers was just a tech demo. If Morrigan's boobs weren't so big, Capcom would have forgotten about that game years ago.

darkvare
Oct 7th, 2009, 12:17 AM
but she appears in tatsunoko vs capcom

Phoenix Gamma
Oct 7th, 2009, 01:35 AM
But no one else from Darkstalkers shows up. I think the last original game that someone besides Morrigan showed up in was MvC2, which starred nobodies like Sonson and Capt. Commando. I'm sure someone will correct me, but I probably won't care by then.

Anyways, I'm a bit curious as to why Hawk and DeeJay are in this. I know they're really pushing SFII nostalgia, but there are so many other characters worth including. I know everyone's saying they'll add more, but it's getting pretty packed already, and I want some Dudley, Makoto, and Ibuki.

Dudley vs. Balrog is my dream matchup.

Then why did Darkstalkers get a US-made cartoon back in the mid 90's along with Megaman and Street Fighter, both of witch (Hoho) got revamps(Hehe) this and last year?

Phoenix Gamma
Oct 8th, 2009, 09:44 AM
Because every game had a cartoon in the 90's. Was there a Bubsy cartoon? I bet there was. I guess Bubsy needs a new game.

Dimnos
Oct 8th, 2009, 10:02 AM
Um... Did you ever watch that cartoon? Because it was shit.

I was more talking to Durr about the gay Darkstalkers cartoon.

There were two different Darkstalkers animated weren't there? I remember Donovan Bane being good in it. Then in the other Felicia hung out with some young kid....which was lame.

SAw some of it in Youtube poop footage:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KxjrO5_dms

What I don't understand is why didn't Capcom actually tell the guys behind the cartoons what the stories and characters backrounds? It would have at least have been marginally better. (And if they would hire artists who can actually emulate Japanese artwork and not 90's Marvel comics. Seriously, they made the girls ugly as a racoons' corpse.

He has a Mike Hagar one, which is pretty cool. I love how the trailer mainly showcases the costumes. BECAUSE COSTUMES ARE WHAT I ENJOY MOST ABOUT GAMING.

So Zangief has a Haggar costume? I guess that'll please the five guys who wanted Haggar so badly in a fighting game besides Saturday Night Slam Masters.
