Soooo, these are now illegal to sell in the US after that new FDA regulation of the tobacco industry.

AT LEAST THE CHILDREN ARE SAFE, AMIRITE

in this thread, I will let you all know how I plan to illegally import these things as I explore the possibilities.

alternatively, you may also share any information or methods on the subject.

I am listening to online narrated slides relating to business, which is why I am writing in this highly gay manner.

If you would like to know more, please refer to the case studies in your text.

I was working in freezing rain one night, going on no sleep, and some guy told me I needed to smoke a blunt and have some clove tea.

I didn't even know what a blunt was at the time.

Anyway, how did cloves get mixed up in all this smoking stuff?

Chojin

Basically,

The concept is that flavored cigarettes are gateways into normal cigarettes and are convincing teens to pick up smoking

The reality is the Marlboro greased some palms and got a government regulation on their best competition, since the bill doesn't affect shit like menthol ciggies

Shit sux, brah

Due to the film of tar coating my mouth for the following 3 days, I could not taste anything.

Thats pretty shitty, I mean.. kids are going to want to smoke regardless of the possible fruity flavors. At least leave the adults whom smoke the freedom to choose what particular cigarette they want to smoke. I'm pretty sure the government would prefer to get the tax money than risk a kid smoking... considering that same kids gonna sneak a smoke no matter what.

Tadao

I think the point is that MORE kids will smoke because of the flavor and packaging. But hey, fuck the kids right? It's not our problem that they aren't used to advertising tricks by the age of 12.

I know what your saying Tadao and I do agree that the flavors and colors is an attempt to draw them in which should be discouraged.

However, was the colors or flavors what drew you to smoking? When you was a kid, did Joe Camel really sell smoking to you?

I just find it shitty that a legal aged smoker has to forgo his/her own preference, especially when the kids have always been an issue to deal with.

LordSappington

There's this 15 year-old whore who lives in my neighborhood who I constantly see at raves and at the park; she's been smoking menthols compulsively even since BEFORE they banned cloves. I consider it safe to say this bill probably hasn't affected shit.
Also, it's pretty bad when a 15 year-old girl has the same cough as a 60 year-old waitress at a truck stop.

Tadao
Oct 6th, 2009, 11:33 PM

I actually knew the dangers of smoking. I watched my grandpa die because of it. The reason I started smoking was pretty morbid. I wanted to make sure I never grew too old. Getting addicted to cigarettes would help me.

At some point you have to weigh what is more important. Other peoples pleasure or other peoples health. If the fucking tabbacoo industry wern't going after kids (and yes they are) then we wouldn't even have this discussion right now. I hold big tobacco to blame for all my smoking woes.

robo_rob
Oct 6th, 2009, 11:49 PM
Yeah, I watched my Grandmother die from lung cancer when I was in the 6th grade. It was a hard dose of reality.

Of course the tobacco industry is going after kids, after all they need customers when the old ones die or quit. However, has any method to discourage smoking ever really helped on a large scale? Cigarettes are what 5$ (give or take) a pack, there is warnings all over them, not allowed to advertise on TV anymore, smoking is only allowed in sanctioned areas, every person in the world telling the dangers of smoking, etc, etc.

The only real way to prevent children from smoking is making it illegal (and even then, there will be a few who slip through). And I seriously doubt that will ever happen. The tobacco industry (with lots of money to bribe) and the big evil guv'ment (I mean, they get a lot of tax money from it) would most likely look over the welfare of others for their own gain.

In the end, stopping one way of reaching the children is great, but in the end... who's going to stop them when it's legal for them to smoke?

Tadao
Oct 7th, 2009, 12:01 AM
Like I said, the industry has made it really hard on smokers because of their shady practices. I couldn't even buy my favorite smokes at one point, all because some person won a lawsuit against the industry because they got cancer. Even though they knew it was a risk. Well Drum Tobacco pulled all their product and I had to find something else to smoke. But hey, I got over it. I'm sure Chojin will do just fine. I'm cool with this decision. And yes, I do think it will actually make a small dent in underage smoking. Even though I know my cigarette butt won't polute the earth much, I still won't leave it in the street, I'll carry it to a can. Same thing going on here for me and the kids. It wont change a lot, but a small positive change means a lot to me nowadays.

I remember that old chaw commercial with Walt Garrison (Just a peeeanch in-between yer cheek 'n' gum) describing how great it was to enjoy all the nicotine, without the ugliness of "smoking". The end was a listing of their brands: 'Skoal,' 'Copenhagen' and "fer you young'uns jest startin' out, mild 'Happy Days' mint."

Yeah, they never targeted children. That would have been wrong.

I tried smoking cigarettes for about 2 weeks once. I stopped after my second pack cuz they were so goddamn expensive. If life is so poopy, shouldn't I be investing my money in something that'll actually make me enjoy life a little more...y'know...instead of investing in an untimely death. But then again, I am still young and youthful, so no wonder I still have a positive outlook on life.

I know this thread is about cloves but I am going to treat it like a smoking thread and brag about my cigar, because it was good.

Well, uh, my cigar was good. Romeo y Julieta Churchill, lasted about an hour and sort of tasted like how sun-baked leather in old pickup trucks smell. That might sound nasty, but for me, it's one of those weird, soothing smells that you don't get to sample enough. Like fresh cut grass or a charcoal grill warming up. And it had a lovely spectrum of other subtle flavors that my palate is not sophisticated enough to dissect. I don't usually smoke cigars, so I don't really have a basis for comparison, and more accomplished snobs might think it's a bad smoke, but I liked it.

Sounds like the problem here with kids and smoking is brand association. They see bright colors in advertising and they see the same bright colors on the boxes they come in and they make the link in their mind.

I would think rather than ban all these different flavor Cigs they should just come up with strict packaging guidelines. Make all the cig boxes plain white with a small logo on the bottom right corner of the box so that they eliminate brand association.

I never smoked myself but it seems to me the government has declared a silent war against smokers. In less than a decade they have been pushed outside, had brands outlawed, and been treated like second class citizens. I am in favor of some places being smoke free, but now they are banning it in places where smokers primarily gather, such as bars and bowling alleys. Even with the second hand smoke outside you will still get exposed to it as you come from outside to in the building, so it is pointless to pretend it matters. Seems a bit silly to me. Either ban cigarettes or don't. This half-assed pseudo-banning of some cigarettes in some places is just transparent bullshit by politicians.

it's called evolution everyone should smoke so that people that can't handle it die. My new cigarette holder is a butthead to use

It basically has a little pinhole tube that goes right up to the filter, which means I have to draw harder than I usually do to get a decent mouthful, and it leaves this really nasty-looking spot on the butt that's black with concentrated tar. The problem could be with what I'm smoking, since American Spirits have notoriously thick, shite filters, but I refuse to switch brands because shit is delicious. Cutting a bit of the filter off seems to work but I don't want to have to carry scissors around with me everywhere, or offer people without holders stubby cigarettes.

If the clove smuggling doesn't pan out, by the way, I'd recommend developing a taste for Spirit Periques, the ones that come in a black box. It's kind of a spicy tobacco that they press-age in whiskey barrels. They're not as sweet as cloves, but are infinitely more satisfying.
