Is it really? I can't see the news. I just saw it when I was eating lunch.

I was thinking about how if there's a kid in there and it lands safely, he'll get a made for TV movie, but if it crashes horribly, he'll be forgotten instantaneously because no one likes a story where a kid dies.

It landed softly and nobody seems to know wtf is going on ahahahahah

As it turns out, the uncle that told them the kid was in the balloon was busy diddling the poor bastard.

I think.

I'm thinking the dad wanted to get his balloon launch televised, and made up the story of his kid being in there.

Dad may or may not believe in wacky ideas about brain waves and aliens.

I thought it was funny that the kid who flew off was named "Falcon".

the power of positive naming.

This reminds me of that priest who tied a bunch of balloons to himself for a fund raiser and floated out over the ocean. I don't know if they ever recovered his body.

The kid was found hiding in a box in the attic.

It'd be so memetastic if that kid Falcon grew up, became a raging alcoholic, got into a barfight, and threw...wait for it... a punch.

Is it just me, or do I smell publicity stunt?

Anytime a police helicopter has to take off it's an automatic $5000 bill to the tax payers.

I remember them from an old Wife Swap episode. They're pretty zany. They probably got addicted to being on TV.

Its time for the child protective services show!

george
Oct 18th, 2009, 09:33 PM
i would watch the child protective services show...one like to catch a predator, except they show some family getting their kids taken away cause the were neglecting their kids, i guess it would be more like a human version of Animal Cops than the predtor shows, but it would make dramatic viewing :(

So it's been proven as a hoax, right?

Colonel Flagg
Oct 18th, 2009, 10:35 PM
That's what the "authorities" say, at any rate. Apparently they got bit by the "reality show" bug with their stint on "Wife Swap" and were hungry for more.

The sheriff said so, but I don't know if they've been charged with anything yet.

They were on Wife Swap TWICE, actually, if I remember correctly.

Colonel Flagg

How'd that happen, exactly? :confused

The husband didn't like the wife he got after the first swap and wanted a new one.

Evidently they were so unoriginal that they decided to steal the subplot from Twelve Monkeys. And then were too stupid to realize that the plan doesn't work in the movie either.

Who gives a shit?

Dr. Boogie
Oct 19th, 2009, 05:32 PM
Given how the Octomom was able to turn bad press into a money-making opportunity, it wouldn't surprise me if the family were to get enough money from interviews and such to pay off their legal bills and still have enough to fund their next crazy scheme.

In other words, the hoax was a success.

Not if a judge issues him a restraining order forbidding him from all types of media until all of his children are 18, but then that wouldn't make for good TV.

What happened with this? I saw on the TV that the parents were looking at prison time and the kids were going to be taken away.
