It's about integrating the Lomo Kompakt Automat camera into your daily routine/life and using it to capture your daily experiences. It held far more meaning before they came out with all of the digital point-and-shoot cameras and camera-phones that everyone has now. Basically these people wanted to have myspace and flickr before they existed so they did the next best thing and made it pretentious to boot. Currently only pioneers of this "Style" and various young hipsters still do it in an attempt to either extend their "Artistic" heyday far beyond its years or as some sort of perverse self indulgent act which plays along with the retro crazes that occasionally sweep through universities.

i just read the 10 rules of lomography and yeah, basically it's a concept that cannot be executed

"don't think" is one of them, which is asinine because there is no way at all that you can take a photo and literally not think about anything for the shot. you will always have an intention, whether or not that intention is to be "intentioness" or "thoughtless"

now, if say you were to take like a bajillion photos over the course of a month at these "random" (impossible) moments, and then cull through them and develop a conceptual series of works which involved content that was somehow connected to the process in which they were taken (what i have just described), then i can understand

but otherwise this is just an excuse for faggots

i have to admit, there's a kid in my class who is doing sort of lomography based work and i actually kind of dig it. he's getting photos taken with toy cameras printed at kinko's by like huge printers meant for plotting and allowing light leaks and running film of like 35mm through a different kind of camera etc etc

And being a pretentious git is something that cannot be overcome unless ya don't think too hard about it. I like the photos, I think they are cool, and I am going to enjoy my Chinese camera in all of its lo-fi glory.
