Holy shit.
I don't know if they should have killed Rita. Now Dexter's got three kids to look after on top of all the killing he has to do. Can he afford a nanny on his salary?

I was disappointed.
I'll admit I didn't see it coming but these scenes are suppose to leave you feeling something, right? This didn't leave me feeling anything at all. Instead of allowing Micheal C Hall to show off some acting chops, they opt instead to give him another monologue, it's purpose being to really push the baby born in blood thing. The writers don't seem to have much respect for it's audience.
It also felt a little exploitative, like they were done with the whole Dexter's family theme and needed a way out. My guess is Astor and Cody are gonna be shipped off to the grandparents conveniently introduced in the last episode.
The whole season was disappointing for me. The writing was lazy and obvious, the scene where Dexter realizes he loves his family and is physically taken aback and starts to cry is what I mean by obvious. There was way to much romantic padding. And worse is all the stupid goofs Dexter kept making, made for the convenience of lazy writers.

There was def romantic padding but it was a huge improvment over season 3 and the finale was great.
And since I don't know how to do a spoiler tag I'll be vague with this, I hope you are wrong king hadas and dexter ends up with that placed in his court.

I thought this whole season was great. The finale was an awesome, though shocking way to end the season.
This is totally one of my favourite seasons yet and I can't wait for the next one.

I was disappointed.
What, you preferred season 3? That shit was garbage.
I really liked the relationship that Dexter built with Arthur, it was done so much better than with Miguel. Actually, in comparison with any of the other seasons, I think this relationship had the most depth.
Killing Rita may have closed their relationship as an avenue of development, but over the course of four seasons it had probably run its course. How many times could they do the troubled relationship bit before it became formulaic? Now Dexter really has a chance to show his character as a forensic analyst, serial killer, and single dad. Despite the fact that he acts a good father, he's not close to the kids. He can't be. Everything that he does with Astor and Cody seems really fake, despite being what a good father would do. It'll be interesting to see how he maintains the facade next season.

Oh sure, it was better than season three but no where near on par with seasons one and two. I'd compare the writing in the last two seasons to something you'd see aired on TNT like "Leverage" or "Charmed." The only thing keeping the show watchable are the premise and the actors. Even though I hated what Miguel brought to the show I thought the guy playing him, Jimmy Smits, was pretty good.
Lithgow was great as the Trinity Killer. Sometimes I'll reflect on the show and wonder if it's okay to portray a serial killer like Dexter as such a tragically romantic character. In this respect, Arthur is the exact opposite of Dexter. Even when he shows sincere emotion it makes your skin crawl.

I loved the finale, I thought the entire season was great. John Lithgow did a good job of being a creepy old guy, I guess.
About the ending...
I thought she was always the weakest character in the show anyway. There were some parts where she seemed just way to "laid back" about a given situation. I realize she'd be beaten and therefore not be assertive but it was kind of silly at times.
And the whole baby in blood thing seemed kind of lame to me. But whatever, it's still an awesome show and ending.

I can see a ton of things they are gonna do with all this and I don't like any of it. :(
