In answer to your other question, I feel like roadkill. But they are giving me all kinds of drugs, so I'm functional roadkill.

Kitsa, I'm glad you're doing ok. Being Functional Roadkill (that's a good name for a band) is better than being Non-Functional Roadkill.

I just gave an update because people knew I was pregnant and I disappeared for a few days. Some people are curious and some couldn't give less of a shit. Someone else started the thread, which was nice. It is kind of a douchebaggy thing to have a little foot-stamping hissy over it.

If you gave birth the pushy-pushy way, there's a chance to poop at the same time!

Kitsa
Jan 28th, 2010, 11:14 PM
I've given birth both ways. I would call it more painful than a giant dump. The most accurate way I've found to describe contractions is that it's a bit like diarrhea cramps, only the diarrhea is made of broken glass. Most of the rest is a burn-y, tear-y sensation, at least the usual way.

With a C-section you get a spinal injection, which is painful and weird and very wrong-feeling, then you slowly lose sensation from about the ribcage down. But you don't lose all sensation. You can feel pressure and touch and you can move your feet, and that leads to a bad few moments worrying about what exactly you're going to feel when they slice open your gut. They say that they pinch you hard first to make sure you're numb "enough".

For me, it felt very much like the last scene of Braveheart. I felt like my gut was slit wide open and pulled apart by both sides, and someone was in there up to their elbows yanking stuff out. It wasn't really numb and it wasn't really painful, but it did feel like maybe you're supposed to die at the end of this or something. And it is weird as hell having major abdominal surgery while you're 100% awake, listening to stuff getting suctioned out of you and watching doctors standing over you joking with each other.

As soon as the spinal wears off, though, the hell begins. And my incision is about 10 inches long, or looks to be that long (no ruler handy). It may be an increasingly common way to have a baby but it's sure as hell not an easy or fun one.

Edit: also, she poos but not a lot yet. The jury's still out on whether or not this is a problem. The one time it did happen big, I got nailed with it...she was loaded for bear and decided to deliver round two while I was still cleaning up the first mess. Lots of fun. The sig other says he never wants tootsie rolls again.

Tootsie rolls? She's out of bilirubin already? My first pooped black/blue/green slime for the first 4 days or so. At least that's what I remember. After that, it resembled old Wispride. We didn't get our first bran muffin until after he began eating solid food. Tootsie Rolls didn't come until age 12-15 months or so.

Ah the food metaphors. :)

ohsnap...I had round two while I was clearing up round one and Mia decided she didn't like what I had for dinner so it was some catholic cleansing shit with incense. Shit. I swear her head spun around on her shoulders...I was all WTF???

And whatever you do...don't do tequilla shots before you breastfeed. You'll regret that for DAYS.

Kitsa

She had elevated bilirubin and low blood sugar when she was born, so matters were kind of taken out of my hands and she got a lot of formula right from the first 15 minutes of life. They needed to ship the excess bilirubin on out of her, so they wanted to create as much shit as possible. That's probably why she pooped a big tarry glob at first and very little since.
