View Full Version : Let's Have A Tea Party!

I was in town today, with the fam, and as we walked toward the center, we saw a group of individuals hoisting placards and yelling incoherently. Cars were honking at them as they drove by. As we got closer, I was able to make out the words "Kill the Bill" and "No to Obamacare".
Right.
I wonder how many of them actually can speak coherently and accurately about the issues, or who have more than a knee-jerk interpretation of the actual bill? (aka Health care for me = Good; health care for all = bad)
I'm betting in the low single digits, and by low I mean none. :(
But we should all be against the bill anyway, right?

I saw an episode of The Daily Show recently where they showed some footage of some bloke likening the struggle against health care to the 'Velvet Revolution' in Czechoslovakia.
They then had a skit where someone listed how they were similar, and what the brave Czechoslovaks were fighting for, including; dissolution of the one party state, free and democratic elections, free healthcare, end to censorship, the right to strike...
Wait, what?

I highly doubt that the Republican's will ever have a good candidate again. I don't think they understand that running on platforms that demand endless wars and less good paying jobs isn't really something that people living in tent cities are willing to latch on to.
The democrats are the same but sneakier, hence why we are still in Bush's wars.
I'm guessing in the next few years people will have enough of this treadmill of futility we call the election process and start a brand new political party.
Congrats Americans, you're no longer the only country in the civilized world without a nationalized health care
Don't pat us on the back just yet. I heard all this healthcare bill really is, is a bailout for the bankrupt insurance agencies. They are going to force people to buy products from for-profit unregulated health insurance companies using medicare's money. So you pay into it through ObamaCare and they STILL deny your claim.
Very similar to the banker bailout. They send trillions of dollars of free tax payer money into the investment banks and then those same banks STILL forclose on you. The American people are taken yet another ride on the bullshit express.
Health care has become the poster child of political football. If you support it, you're a socialist. If you're against it, you're a right wingnut.
I'm for an optional single payer government Health care plan. Problem is that ObamaCare is just another sweet heart deal for the insurance companies who gambled on derivatives and lost. Hence why a lot of the house democrats were against it from the start but were bullied into supporting it.
There still isn't a single payer option in the bill to compete with private interests and that's the point.
I wouldn't be surprised if quite a lot of Non-Red states follow suit and passed laws against the Health Care bill just like they did regarding the Patriot Act.
The government can't force it's population to buy a product from a private for profit instituion.

Don't listen to what Rush, Hannity, or O'Reilly say. They are just put there so right-wingers will worship them and carry their backwards ideology into the real world. The only reason why he made a joke about Rush is because he's still trapped in the left / right paradigm. He wouldn't have made the joke if it was Kieth Olbermann or Rachel (The Man) Maddow.
The facts remain,
Obama a supposed Leftist passed a right wing health bill that Sean Hannity and Rush LOVE. It gives all the medicare money directly to the for profit unregulated insurance companies WHILE cutting medicare. It's a right wingers dream come true.
But not many Lefty's will notice this until it's too late and even if they do they will be too delusional to blame it on Obama. They will probably make themselves feel better by blaming it on the republicans. Even though they voted for it with smiles on their faces.
This who nonsense about Rush hating the Healthcare bill is Kabuki theatre. It's professional wrestling but with politics. It's all rigged.

Rush also said that there should be manditory prison terms for drug users. His hypocrisy is unending. Hence why nothing they say should ever be taken seriously. Left wing talk show hosts included.
Keith Olbermann used to go on 30 minute tirades ripping Bush to pieces over illegal wire tapping and false statements before the war but all that disappeared now because Obama is in office. Now the wars are just and we have to get the "terrorists" and illegal wiretapping are OK because they are protecting the homeland.

Insurance companies stocks have been going up for a while. Apparently there are actually some people out there who understand the law.
Oh, I thought they were going up because of this.
Health-care stocks led the stock market higher Monday after the U.S. House Sunday approved a historic health-care overhaul designed to bring health insurance to 32 million more Americas while subjecting U.S. industries to a dramatically redrawn and newly regulated marketplace.
MARKET ACTION: U.S. stocks gained broadly, led by a surge in health-care stocks.
The Dow's pharmaceutical components strengthened, as drug makers are expected to profit from the expansion of health-care coverage. Merck rose 2.3%, while Pfizer climbed 1.5%.
Hospital operator Tenet Healthcare rose 6.1%, while insurer Cigna gained 1.9% and Express Scripts, a pharmacy benefit manager, rose 2.1%. Pharmaceutical companies also climbed, with Eli Lilly up 1.3% and Bristol-Myers Squibb up 0.6%.
WINNERS & LOSERS: Health-care providers, drug companies and device makers are expected to see a neutral or even a positive impact from the legislation. Hospitals, clinical laboratories and pharmaceutical companies will see a deluge of new customers and could potentially benefit if millions of more Americans are insured.
The outlook may not be so rosy for insurers. Though they will gain enrollees, they also face a raft of new regulations that would bar insurance companies from denying coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions -- and limit their ability to differentiate insurance premiums based on a customer's age and other factors.
Also, Medicare providers will face both cuts and new regulatory restrictions.

First off,
I'm assuming that you didn't read the first post because this whole entire topic is based around hatred for people of the right-wing persuasion. Which IMO is a futile effort considering that both sides are funded by the same people. THEN the topic continued by stating that Tea Party people are idiots and don't have enough mental fortitude to understand the bill they are protesting against.
I wonder how many of them actually can speak coherently and accurately about the issues, or who have more than a knee-jerk interpretation of the actual bill? (aka Health care for me = Good; health care for all = bad)Seems like someone has prejudices against others...hmmm?? Maybe assumptions that aren't exactly true....hmmm....food for thought.

I'm not getting up anyone's anywhere. If you haven't noticed I continue to get verbally abused when pointing out basic facts. The Tea Party and others (Democrats as well) were correct about opposing this legislation.
And if anyone would like to have a little conversation about that then fine but if everything I say will be answered with "Conspiracy theorist" then I'm not going to participate. Nor will I have a conversation with someone who speaks so low of his fellow citizens. I'm not a fan of conditioned arrogant elitism.

I thought I was being helpful.
You remind me of one of my old freshman chem students, pre-med. Constantly coming to office hours with the same old exam trying in vain to show me that they did get the answer right, or at least deserved partial credit.
Honestly.
I started this thread because it occurred to me as I was driving through my hometown that most individuals who protest one way or another probably have no clue as to the ramifications of what they may be protesting for or against. I am intrigued but not surprised that it has evolved into a discussion of the pros and cons of the present solution to the current healthcare crisis, now known disparagingly as Obamacare.
Personally, I only am convinced that the most dangerous path is to do nothing. A bad solution can be fixed, but it at least moves us off the status quo. Witness the decision of the previous administration on stem cells - it spawned a whole new era of research into modification of epithelial cells to become pluripotent stem cells. Would this have happened if research was not restricted by the Bush administration? Maybe not.
No quotations, no links, and no trying to convince anyone. This is only my opinion.

As stated in my previous posts....AND....repeated by dissident Democratic senators and congressmen, this "Bill" is nothing more then a bailout for the bankrupt insurance and pharmaceutical companies. If you read the bill....which you didn't.....making this a rather hypocritical topic to post...you would have realized that all of the money gets funneled directly into the bank accounts of numerous designated winners who have connections in the white house and congress.
Personally, I only am convinced that the most dangerous path is to do nothing. A bad solution can be fixed, but it at least moves us off the status quo. Witness the decision of the previous administration on stem cells .

And that's a shame, because I think if he could just drop his facade of elitism he could present a few excellent points. Unfortunately, it gets lost in his attitude - I know more than you do, therefore you should believe me; if you don't you're a lemming. :noseintheair
I'm sure he has a few links, or a video that he'll show now to prove me wrong. :rolleyes
For the record, I've actually spoken to many protesters in my 50 years on this earth, and it has been my experience (not sound-bite, blog, or op-ed piece) that most individuals did not really know why they were protesting. They were there because someone told them to be there - in other words, they were doing exactly what Coolie has been accusing most of us, including myself, of doing - being lemmings.
Again, I have no sound-bite, blog or op-ed piece to show to prove me right. I don't particularly feel the need to prove myself to anyone, as this is only my opinion. Feel free to disagree, this is teh interwebs. Just try to do it in a non-condescending manner.

It all depends on who you ask. A linguist will say no because it is a formula and dictionaries say a formula is not technically a word. If you ask people trying to be a smart ass, they will argue for it being an actual word for comedic effect. But it is an actual chemical formula, and it is spelled that way. It would all come down to how you define what a word actually is.

See guys, thecoolinator has it all figured out:
Doctors don't even study health; they study disease. Modern doctors are taught virtually nothing about nutrition, wellness or disease prevention. Expecting a doctor to guide you on health issues is sort of like expecting your accountant to pilot a jet airliner -- it's simply not something he or she has ever been trained in.True fact: It is illegal in every U.S. state for a doctor to recommend any vitamin, nutrient or food for the prevention or treatment of any disease. Doing so can cause a doctor to have his medical license permanently revoked. How crazy and outdated is that? I should probably report almost every doctor that I have ever had, then.
More research is needed to find "cures"
This lie is especially hilarious because western medicine does not believe in any "cure" for any disease. They aren't even looking for cures! This lie has been repeated since the 1960's, when cancer scientists claimed they were only a few years away from curing cancer. Today, four decades later, can you think of a single major disease that western medicine has cured? There aren't any.Smallpox doesn't count, I guess.
