Or as some would call it, the Tour de 'roids. It began this past weekend to little fanfare, probably due to the buzz surrounding the World Cup. As one of very few American sports fans interested in the strategy and teamwork of this event, I figured I'd see if there was anyone else interested in discussing this topic.

Currently the three US-based teams are doing quite well, but it's still early. Armstrong (out of retirement and probably hopped up on EPO ;)) is in 5th place, and there is only one "in-race" time trial event this year (next-to-last stage), as they dropped the team event altogether.

So there's much to discuss.

I for one feel the changes take away from the team aspect of the race, although the purists may look at this as a good thing, bringing the race back to its roots in becoming more of a true road rally pitting cyclist against cyclist.

Anyone else with an opinion?

I'm not really down with it, or the terminology, tactics etc, but I do enjoy watching it so I can marvel at the landscapes. It's also exciting to see the final dash to the finish line where riders' legs must literally be on fire.

I like one thing about the Tour

And that is laughing at the frogs who a) hate that Armstrong pretty much always wins and b) hate that they can't make any substance abuse accusations stick to his teflon ass

I want to know what the hemorrhoid situation is amongst professional bicyclists.

So I was watching some tonight, and the commentators were talking about how wonderful that there had been no major accidents so far in this particular stage... and all I could think of was "Well hopefully there will be one coming up then".

The Tour is like Nascar for posh wankers and French arseholes.

I've just been told that Cadel Evans was away from the front taking a "nature break". Seriously. They can't hold a shit for a few hours? Christ.

I would have thought that all that sweating and legs pumping would effectively negate the need to pee.

I guess they schooled me. :|

EDIT: Of course, if he had to crap, that would be something else altogether.

Surely you would just piss in a bottle. Then you would get to throw it on the side of the road as you sped past spectators.
