I haven't played any demos for it or anything yet, have you? I have a gift card and I'm thinking of using it on this game when it comes out. Still, I'd like to try it out first and hear what people think of it before I buy it.

I saw a video preview of it in action. Hard to believe how so many GC games look not much different than N64 ones. But then again, it's impossible to improve on the simplistic and cartoony graphical style of Mario. Anyway, it looked like a Mario Kart game, which I guess isn't a bad thing.
I imagine it'll be in a GC at a Toys R Us or Best Buy or something soon enough. I also imagine that just like everyone else, you can blindly purchase it and love the fuck out of it.

It looked pretty good. I was going to buy it, but I winded up getting a huge arcade controller that you can use for each system. I might go out today and rent it. I could steal the pin code too and get that Zelda comp too.

Ugh... if I hadn't just played through and reviewed the awful Taiwanese game, "Little Red Hood" (http://www.angelfire.com/oh5/meekrat/lrhreview.html), I would so totally have a really long rant about this. I'm guessing Baby Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Wario, Baby Waluigi, girlfriends for Wario and Waluigi, some completely new characters no one gives a fuck about, and the return of Tatanga (Super Mario Land) are coming soon.
If any of those ever happen, by the way, I am so going to set fire to Nintendo of America. It won't stop a damn thing, but I like setting fire to things. God damned Nintendo, thinking everybody needs a significant other. Why don't they worry about their fanbase, a good 9/10 of which don't have girlfriends. Bastards, alienating their fanbase...

Because they're encased in special "dream cubes" that allow them to transcend the world of dreams. You can tell by the white boxes around them.

Just got the game and it's great! They definitely kept the original mario kart style in there (though I'm sure there's still some new stuff I've gotta learn), but it's been a lot of fun so far. The courses are really really cool. And as expected, Koopa & Paratroopa as a team simply kick ass.
I can't wait to get a good multiplayer game of this going. Of course, it probably would help if I had more than one controller :o
I also talked the guy at the store into giving me one of the preorder copies that comes with the playable demo disc. I played the Ninja turtles demo all the way through. It seems like it could be fun with a bunch of other players all at once for a little while, but I don't think it's the kind of game that you'd come back to play again and again. The new F-Zero was pretty damned fun though, I'd definitely like to play more of that one.

Awesome, cuz so far all I can do is race.
How much do standard gamecube controllers go for nowadays anyway? I really need to buy at least one more. And no, I refuse to buy any shitty third party brand ones. It has to be the official Nintendo brand one, just like the one that came with my cube.

$20. Though I bought mine when the Gamecube first came out, and it was like $45. :(
Both of my controllers are broken now becuase I left them up-side for too long. The analog stick tilts. I bought another one. It's orange. :)
I also higly recommend picking up one of these controllers for the games that don't need the analog stick.

It's not first party but it plays like it. Import only so it's about $26.

I'd get a Wavebird, Rog. I don't know how expensive they are these days, but we have two of 'em. They're exactly like the regular controllers except they're cordless (so they don't vibrate as a result, but hey, that doesn't bother me because it's fucking CORDLESS!)

Speaking of demos the Sonic Heroes one doesn't seem too bad. There's just a glitch or something so that everytime I run through this one loop I fall through it. :(

I've never been big on cordless controllers, I just want the standard controllers. Nothing fancy, just the basic, cheap Nintendo controller. I can't wait to play this damned game with more than one player. >:

My cousins got a Gamecube and this game for Christmas, and I played it today.
It's an OK game, but really nothing great, in my opinion. The levels seem incredibly short, not really giving you a lot of time to ever fully explore the newfound strategies included, such as the two racers per cart, dropped items, interactivity with the tracks, and special attacks. The levels in MK64 felt a lot bigger.
On top of that, none of the levels really stood out as being memorable. We played every one on the Mushroom, Flower, and Star cups, and I ended up not having any favorites. They just seemed rather dull, to be honest. It felt more like, they designed the track layout, then just threw on the Mario themes. And most of the tracks feel a lot alike.
And on a lesser note, handling takes some getting used to, especially with the GC controller. It feels looser compared to the N64 game.
It's a good game and all, and fun to play with others. But it just didn't feel nearly as gripping or as innovative/original as the past two games did. I was expecting more.

James
Jan 1st, 2004, 04:10 PM
Err, you mean power-sliding?
That reminds me, I hate that there's no jump in this game (unless I missed it). In MK64, well-timed jumps could screw up a red shell, and you could make it hit a wall or something. Not to mention you could jump over banana peels and stuff.
Nerd
Jan 1st, 2004, 04:21 PM
Yeah no shit. The jump was one of the coolest features in MK64, and they had the nerve to take it out. Getting the power slide is harder now, but it's just a matter of getting used to it.

So blue sparks have to do with power sliding eh? I've never played the game, hence I don't know too much about it, but http://www.penny-arcade.com keeps making references to 'bringing the blue sparks'. I was just curious.
