Just finished with this one.
The story is that you're a death row inmate who, instead of being executed, was drugged and taken to be used in a sort of citywide snuff film, having to fight your way past a variety of hunters, all out for your head.
Easily the most violent game on the market. The emphasis is on stealth, and all the weapons you find can be used both for combat and for stealth kills.
A word on the stealth kills: they're set up so that when you sneak up on someone, you hold down the button to determine whether you commit a hasty, violent, or gruesome stealth kill. Despite the ranks, most of the kills are pretty gruesome, from repeatedly stabbing someone in the eyes with a shard of glass, to disemboweling them with a sickle, to a decapitation via three wet chops of a machete.
Later in the game, guns start to show up. Nowhere near as messy as the other weapon kills, but making explosive headshots is fairly easy if you're close.
In short, not a bad game, although the stealth kill system seems more for show than anything else. It's worth taking a look at, if for nothing else than to find out ahead of time the controversy that will almost certainly arise from the game.
On a related note, given that some kids shot at cars on the freeway because of what they saw in GTA 3, I can only imagine what they might do as a result of this game. Don't be too surprised if you hear a story about a kid hitting his friend in the face with a hatchet because he saw it in Manhunt.
