On Thursday, Dec.4, at 9:00pm ET, the American network Spike TV will present the first annual Video Game Awards, and they're asking viewers to vote for the best video game in different categories, which includes a write-in option.
It's worth noting that one of the categories is for "Best Performance by a Human" (voice-overs). I personally wrote in "Antonio Fargas - Starsky & Hutch - Gotham Games," because I think he did a super job adding the Huggy Bear voice-over.
Here's the list of categories:
- Best Game
- Best Sports Game
- Best Action Game
- Best Animation
- Best Driving Game
- Best Game Based on a Movie
- Best Music
- Best Performance by a Human
- Most Anticipated
- Most Addictive
- Best PC Game
- Best Online Game
- Best Handheld Game
- Best Fighting Game
- Best First Person Action
- Best Fantasy Game
- Best Classic Game

God these nominees suck. Why is FFXI even on there if it hasn't been released in the US yet?

I say if GTA: Vice City doesn't win for Best Game the awards are fixed.
Speaking of fixing, I don't like the fact that some of the first categories have only three clickable choices, while other categories have 8 to 10 clickable choices.
8 clickable choices for Best Classic Game, which doesn't include Super Mario Bros!?!

The game had to be at least 25 years old.

>: - I don't give a shit about Spike TV's classic game definition. Super Mario Bros. should of been on the list because no other home video game had a greater impact.
:/ - The home video game industry is almost 30 years old now, and Spike TV decided to go back 25 years, while cinema has been around for over 100 years, and some Hollywood studios sell their 10-year-old movies as classics.
>: - The fix is in for Space Invaders because it's the most popular home video game classic that's + 25 years, and a Space Invaders reminiscence is posted on Spike TV's homepage...

This seems like a cool idea, but I have a feeling it's not going to come off well.

Willow on the NES should win. The only similarity between it and the movie was the character names, but it was still a fucking awesome Zelda-style ripoff.

It's an obvious marketing ploy. Why else would it ALL be games from the last 2 years?

Was John Henson funny? I really wanted to see him but I didn't feel like waiting to see him.

I told myself before last night's VGA that if GTA: Vice City didn't win for Best Game it was probably fixed.
Watching EA's commercials at fast-forward speed during the breaks only added to my suspicion. Besides the top category disappointment, alot of the winners I expected, including Best Performance by a Human, Ray Liotta in Vice City, and even though Bay City's coolest cat didn't win, I was glad to see Liotta was there in person to accept his award.
The host, David Spade had his moments, and the WWE wrestling was fun, but I didn't care for any of the live music.

I saw about two minutes where the old 7 up guy and the shitty burping puppet from Crank Yankers presented "the most anticipated game" award. It was the worst two minutes of my life.
