I played a demo, and I read a bit on it (though it seemed to have some minor spoilers, so I stopped). Reviews have been good as well.

The consensus from the reviews, is that the tone of the game is so much more lighthearted than past FF, though there still is that deepness of the plot and the emotions that shine through every now and then. This is the only thing I had to take from reviews, because I didn't get to see anything about the story from the demo.

It's not "girly" or "sex appeal-oriented" as many people had feared. I kept an open mind though during this whole thing, so many people who made up their minds when they heard about something like Yuna singing J-Pop will still hold those opinions and use them to make everything in the game reflect on them. Which is very easy, given the light-hearted feel of the game. There's not a lot to bring you back to the heavy tones present in past games, so your perception will affect how you feel about the game.

The gameplay is hectic. It goes back to the ATB meters, but there's no more waiting for one person to finish their turn for the next person to do theirs. Everything's happening at the same time. So there's a bit of strategy involved in when to make your move, setting up combos between your characters, and so on. It doesn't feel as turn-based as the past games have, which might make many people happy. But the frantic pace of the battles and the timing takes some getting used to, which I couldn't do when being thrown into a battle like that. The actual game prepares you better, I'm sure.

The Job Sphere system is interesting. You switch jobs classes on the fly, developing skills for each. Each job is complete with a Summon-Style cinematic, and a unique outfit for each girl. Just because it's called "Dress-Up," doesn't mean it's silly. It's very much like the job systems from FFV and Tactics, except you change jobs during the ongoing battles. According to the reviews, you'll actually WANT to get into random battles, just so you can switch through multiple jobs during the fight, and develop them more. And while I didn't get to spend much time with it, I can see why they'd feel that way.

The jumping and climbing is no big deal. At all. You can hold down Circle to jump and climb automatically when you come to a spot where you can do it, or you can just press it when needed. When not pressing it, you can't fall of ledges or anything. It just adds more depth to the environments.

The mission system is different. Not bad, just different. A lot of people didn't like how linear FFX (and other games in the series) was. If you're one of those people, don't complain about this. I haven't had any experience with it, but it doesn't sound like something to complain about. The system is also one of the things that reflects on which ending you get. Yes, there are multiple endings.

Oh, and the music is horrible, for the most part. It's not done by the guy who has done the music in the past. It's done by the team who did the music for The Bouncer. It's dreadful for the most part.

Not sure what else to say. I think the drastic changes influence a lot of people into being apprehensive, and maybe even to say that it's not as good as other FF games. But from everything I've seen so far, it's a quality game. And if you liked FFX at all, you'll want to at least continue the story by playing this.

I haven't actually played it myself, but one of my friends owns it and I watched him play, so I don't know much about the gameplay itself. But, I can tell you that it reminds me a hell of a lot of Charlie's Angels. A whole god damn lot.

Now Crystal Chronicle is a game you sure as shit can avoid.

It's a Guantlet-style game, in which you go through levels hacking away at enemies. Strategy seems somewhat limited, aside from the fact that you carry around a magic bucket, and you need to stay inside of its aura so you don't lose health.

The point of the game is it's really meant to be played with 4 players, though there is a single player mode. But in order to play with 4 players, you need, 4 Game Boy Advances and 4 Game Boy/Gamecube Link Cables. That's a pretty tall order to ask of people.

There's not a whole lot of "Final Fantasy" involved in the game, so you should definitely rent it first, before devoting those $50 into it because it's a FF game.

But back to FFX-2. The Charlie's Angels similarities, to me, end with the fact that it's three girls. There's not a whole lot of needless flash and a convoluted shit story like there is in those movies.

Maybe in the full game, some of the music is better. But in the section I played in the demo, the opening game music was the only good thing. The battle music and music for the area were just bad.

And speaking of bad, Yuna's voice actor seems to have improved a little since FFX. But Payne's replaces her in that role. Everything she said in my demo was muttered, forced apathy. However, all she said was two or three lines, so we'll see.

The bottom line is, the game with worth playing. Even if you don't like it, or you have your apprehensions, there's a lot of stuff going on with this game, that you really should play it and expose yourself to the changes in the formula.

The way I see it is...It's the same gameplay, just better graphics and different charactes. The plot is just about the same, too. Some bad guy you know is trying to take over the world and you meet a guy, then a girl you just happen to fall in love with, and some more people that don't matter.
I just think the games are completly boring and just don't desirve my time. BUT THAT'S MY OPINION >:

Been playing X-2 and so far it is pretty fun. It doesn't seem like the epic-like tale that FFX (one thing I did enjoy about FFX was the story and ending) was but it is enjoyable. It is kind of cool seeing some of the returning characters. I was worried about this whole sequel thingy but seems like they did it pretty well with also making it a whole new game experience. I'm working on some different classes. Rikku makes a pretty bad ass white mage.

What the fuck are you talking about? The FF series started to lose it's touch right after 7. As much as I liked 7, 7 started the whole trend of throwing in boring tenage characters with weird hair colors and absolute shit plot. FF9 was complete shit and the main character looked like the third Olsen twin who was outcasted because she had a tail. And FF10 can suck it. Tidus looks like a girl and there is absolutely nothing that seperates FF10 from the rest of the series. Same boring characters, same shit plot, same turn based elements, same random incounters, same shit you've played 10 million times before.

They made me not want to play FFIX and FFX, but i'm going to eventually work my way towards those, because i hear that they actually weren't that bad. And yes, i am kind of disappointed with the visual direction the games are taking. I think that the old is fusing too much with the new, (see the FFXII screens, but i'm not whining about Ashe :love ) but soon enough i'm sure we'll have our old-school ones back. im going to have to stand by chainsawsmash on this one, i never met an FF i didnt like, which includes 5,6,7,8,9,10, tactics. i wasnt a huge fan of 9, but it was still fun, and an interesting game to play. as for ff8, it was awesome the first time through. i enjoyed the story, all the CGS, which were awesome for the time, and it had the greatest mini game ever, the card game! on later play throughs the draw system gets a little old, but i mean the first time you do the assassination of edea? too cool. as for FFX, i dont see what the problem is. incredible graphics, awesome music, some cool characters, new fight system, new and extremely varied enemies, whats the problem here!? and ninjavenom is right, tactics kicked ass in too many ways to count

The reason that FF is repetitive is because it works, and people don't want to see it change. They DO want the same gameplay over and over, whether they'll admit it or not. Square let out other types of RPG's, like the Chrono series and stuff like that, but it'll never catch on like FF.

People don't care how many times they play the same story over and over, because they're going to love the new characters and goals, no matter what.

FF is like an overblown Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk has the same concept year after year, with slight changes and "improvements", but people will keep buying it for the new missions, objectives...it may be the same thing that they've played over and over and over, but they still love it.

I've NEVER liked any Final Fantasy besides Advance Tactics. Yes, Final Fantasy is pretty overrated, but since it was the "father of RPG's," people won't stray from it.

Get over yourself. I laid out the information on Crystal Chronicle, and what I thought of it (in three very short paragraphs). I still would have said the same things if it was on the PS2, and I never said anything to prove otherwise in my comments. The fact that to play with friends, you each need a link cable and GBA is stupid, and is not related to the fact that it's Nintendo. If it was on the PS2, and you each needed a PSP, that would also be stupid. And more importantly, I am very aware that my opinions are based solely on information of the unreleased product. I have no first--hand experience or reviews of which to give anything but my first impressions, and also never said my thoughts on the game were something everyone must share.

This will be my 4th reply in this thread. FF has been a good series all the way through. It has had its ups and downs but overall it's a good series. IV, VI and VII were the best so far but Square has held my interest with the later installments. Maybe Square gets so much shit because it was king during the SNES era but they put out a decent product when you look at the other stuff the genre is putting out these days. Square is more mainstream these days and their games totally reflect that. Made so that novice players can easily play them. It isn't a good thing in my opinion but the games offer enough substance that they are fun to play through. My expectations have lowered and I enjoy the series alot more because of it. Hell, I'm even having fun playing through FFVIII again and I didn't like it the first time. If you don't like them, don't play them. If you aren't playing them, don't bitch cause you don't know what the fuck you are talking about (a major factor in alot of threads).

Get over yourself. I laid out the information on Crystal Chronicle, and what I thought of it (in three very short paragraphs). I still would have said the same things if it was on the PS2, and I never said anything to prove otherwise in my comments. The fact that to play with friends, you each need a link cable and GBA is stupid, and is not related to the fact that it's Nintendo. If it was on the PS2, and you each needed a PSP, that would also be stupid. And more importantly, I am very aware that my opinions are based solely on information of the unreleased product. During Chapter 3 there is a tournament in Luca for a game called Sphere Break (it's pretty lame). After beating 3 pathetic players you goto the finals against that Shinra kid. His match is alot tougher but after you beat him you win the tournament and the "Lady Luck" dressphere. I haven't messed with the dressphere yet.

That's what really bothered me about the game. I guess there was really no way to do it "right." I mean, they either left the bosses the way they were, so people who didn't get the Ultimate Weapons or Break Damage Limit ability would be able to fight them, or they increased their HP and forced the player to find the weapons.

At least the monster arena made up for it.

X's boss was real weak. I used Tidus, Lulu and Yuna all with their ultimate weapons, it was pathetic.

X-2's boss was quicker and the game is shorter but I guess that's why there are multiple endings/choices. I beat the game last night. Got the new game + and also got the Tidus secret ending,
pretty cool but doesn't really explain much. Continues where X's after credits scene left off.

Will have to play through again cause it was pretty short and I need to get 100%

Chocobo race for Tidus

Yeah you have to get 0 on the chocobo race. Took several trys. I thought Lulu's (think it was the venus sigil) to be pretty annoying. I had it up to 147 the first time then somehow got struck. Had to do it over and it wasn't a problem but it was quite annoying and tedious.

I only ended up getting three ultimate weapons all the way powered up: Tidus, Lulu and Yuna. The rest will be something to do if I ever go back.
