My band, Baseless, played our first show yesterday. It was an acoustic showcase put on by the campus radio station, and we (a hard rock group) were up alongside five singer-songwriters. We played a four song set with three originals and one cover (Audioslave - I Am a Highway).
And it really sucked. I never play acoustic guitar, and I only had four days to get ready for the show, so my fingers killed - aside from the actual missed notes, I just sounded like clumsy shit on the instrument. And since it was just me, a hand drum, and vocals, it should've been pretty easy for everyone to notice.
Fortunately, I had to give up the board to someone else for our set (I was running sound for the event too) and he mixed the drum way too high so it totally drowned me out - from the speakers, the audience must only have been able to hear the eight or nine real mistakes I made, so my dignity is a little bit less destroyed. And we were recording straight from the board, so all four of our tracks on the tape are really crappy so I can throw them out and no one will be able to hear them. :)
Just thought y'all might like to know. When we do a real show (with electric guitar, drums, and a full-length set) I'll post mp3s so you can all tell me how much you hate my music.
PS. If anyone actually wants to hear one of our songs or our Audioslave rendition at this point, let me know.

The name Baseless is infinitely worse then any of the suggestions given on these boards.

The only song I can stomach from audioslave is Getaway Car.

my new band's third practice together was last night. two hours in, we caught someone's expensive-as-fuck 15" speaker on fire. we didn't blow it. it started smoking while we were playing and we discovered it was totally on fire. we didn't even have all of our stuff going yet, either. and beesty is simply the best name ever.

No one asked you, Goat. >: We got the name because it took us forever to find a bass player, and it's subject to change anyway.
And it's inifinitely better than Staind, Linkin Park, or Limp Bizkit, and they were successful.

No one likes Staind though. No one.

Seriously, the name Baseless sucks. I'm not being an asshole, it just sucks. :/
I always thought a cool name for a band would be "The Gays" but you'd have to be REALLY fucking good.

"and beesty is simply the best name ever."
Umm, no, it isn't. :/
"And it's inifinitely better than Staind, Linkin Park, or Limp Bizkit, and they were successful."
Sadly, that statement is untrue. Baseless is brutal.

Like I said, subject to change. And I asked the board for suggestions and didn't get anything but utter shit anyway. >:

So let's quit bitching about the name and respond to the rest of the post or don't say anything at all. >:

ha ha! why would you put mention of your band on the i-mockery board if you were going to be so faggishly defensive about it?
the best three band names of all time are beesty (already scripted that in stone though), the spectral light and moonshine firefly snakeoil jamboree, and megadeth.

We are going to have a demo tape in Febuary if anyone here wants it. We haven't decided on a name yet. Probably something like CUNTROCKER or AIDS BLASTED CORN FLAKES. :(

Excellent names the both of them. And if Perndogs band couldn't find a bassist shouldn't it be Bassless not Baseless?

they say it's a poor musician who blames the instrument for a bad performance...

Dec 8th, 2003, 11:37 AM
It wasn't that the guitar sucked, it was that it was a different kind of instrument. I blame it on not enough practice time.

The difference between playing an acoustic vs. an electric is that an acoustic is easier to play. No excuses.

RT, shutup. Acoustics are way harder to get to ring. The action is alot higher, and you don't have the benefit of pedals or distortion to mask an accidental muted note. >:

PERNDOG,
i really dont think your band name is that bad, but calling mitchell a tool is pretty retarded.

Yeah, I can, too. I'm saying that acoustics are much more difficult to play, and take alot more skill to play well.
