View Full Version : Lying vs Not Telling the Truth

Is it lying to someone, if you just don't tell them something?
Like, let's say you kicked someone's dog, and you don't say anything at all. Now, lying would be saying you didn't, if it was brought up. But is it lying if you just keep it to yourself, and they never even knew you kicked their dog?

I think that would be considered not telling the truth. Becuase if your not telling them, your not really lying to them. :/

Why'd you fuck me? I didn't do anything bad, and also, I don't consider it lying, I just consider it not telling people.

Why do I get the feeling that this thread belongs in Loveline.

Yeah, I don't think it'd actually be considered lying, it'd just be not telling the truth. You're not really lying to yourself even because you KNOW you did it, whether or not you say anything about it, and you don't deny it to yourself that you did it....you just didn't say anything.

If anything, it belongs in the Philosophy forum. Only reason I put it here, was because I didn't want to deal with Vince, if he's even still about.

If you have a soul and feel remorse or guilt about not telling someone I think its the same thing as lying.

If it counts for anything, I think this belongs in the Loveline forum, too.

OK, let me put it this way.
Say someone got you a Christmas present, and you didn't like it. But you never told them you didn't like it. They never asked if you did like or anything, so you never came out and said you did or didn't like it.
Is it wrong to keep it to yourself?

Why are you even asking this, James? Do you enjoy going out and hurting other people's feelings just so you can say you have some piece of mind about something as insignificant as a Christmas present?
Sheesh.

The Christmas present was an example, you douche. Don't make me go get Dutchy to kick your ass. >:
I'm just saying, if you want to be completely honest with someone, does that mean that not sharing secrets with them is considered lying?

It's funny because I was just thinking that somebody was going to say that. But it is a really good solution to various problems.

If you want to be totally honest with someone, then he should see the full extent of your character. So yes, you fail if you thought of something that applied to a situation at hand and you, for diplomatic reasons didn't say it. It's difficult to not be easy.
