I've been playing Final Fantasy 5 at great lengths lately, trying to beat it in full (meaning secret bosses and side quests and such as well). It's really starting to get to me, fighting random battles two hours straight to increase my job levels and such. Aside from SOCOM II, I don't really have any other games to use as a break from FF5. So, throw some ideas out there, please.

Edit: Oh, or MAME games, I guess.

It doesn't take long, but it's worht it with that pink little guy.

I just bought pac-man world 2 because it's dirt cheap. It's surprisingly fun and a great little distraction.

I've heard good things about the Breath of Fire series. Earthbound, too.

Try Runsaber on the SNES. It's good for some beat-em-up fun. Same with Genocide 2. Super Mario RPG also, if you've not played it yet. The Mystical Ninja series is chock-full of fun.

I'm surprised you've been able to play FFV for that long. I played it for roughly twenty minutes on Anthologies, and i was suffering. The battles took way too long to load, and i thought the character sprites (out of battle) were pretty ugly. I'm in the wind shrine now, hopefully it will pick up soon. I bet the game's better on SNES, just 'cos there's not stinkin' load time buffers between battles. >:

I wasn't able to play it on PSX. It was horrendous. Even the SOUND quality was worse. :(

I'm halfway through the game. The problem is I've been leveling up job classes so I have the proper skills for later in the game. This also puts my characters way above the suggested level. Combine that with the Barefist ability (90% of the time), and I'm breezing through the actual story progression of the game.

But right now, I'm up to fighting an optional boss, who is really cheap. He gets in multiple attacks, and he has one-hit kills. You have to use a summon to absorb the hits, then reaply it every couple turns (though sometimes, it just won't work for some reason, or you won't be able to summon him fast enough). Meanwhile, you need to his the guy with nothing but Ice 3, and you need to keep your guys Floating, because he uses Earth Shaker as a final attack. I actually beat him not knowing this, and he took all my guys with him.

So I've been leveling up my jobs to get the necessarily skills to use with other Jobs. But when you have 70-100AP to earn, and you get 3AP at most at this point in the game, it gets VERY tedious and boring.

The buffer times really aren't that bad for me. I mean, they're there, but not annoyingly long like Chrono Trigger's.

I should really save this for my RPG Completion Quest thread. :(

And Emu, I really don't need more RPGs. I'm trying to beat this RPG, so I can start another one I have lined up already. I can only play one RPG at a time.

I've been trying some of the Japanese roms for the SNES. You could give one of the Doraemon games a try. I'm playing Doraemon 4. They're a lot like mario bros. style platform games but you can be a fat black kid or a girl who shows panties when you jump among others. And they say wacky japanese things when you pick up items.

I also just started a game called Holy Umbrella. I couldn't pass up that title, and so far the game seems pretty decent actually, it's along the lines of secret of evermore it terms of graphics and play but I haven't gotten too far into that one yet.

There's a little gem for SNES called E.V.O. - The Search For Eden

It's easy to find and is fantastic.

In FF5, when you get to the near end, you stop getting EXP and get pure AP, anywhere from 100-1500 in a battle. 1500 if you're lucky enough to defeat Movers. This is why I mastered all the jobs, but was too low in levels to beat Shinnryu or that one other Über-boss.

I've been practicing playing Resident Evil for PSX with only a knife, but I'm always scared for hours after I play that game :<

Shut up it doesn't happen with Outbreak >:

Outbreak's probably gonna rock, but I'm gonna rent it first.

Anyway, since I've been having a hard time finding a decent rom site as of late, I was lucky to come upon one that had a rom I haven't played in a long time. Probably the best Mario game to date: Mario is Missing!

So that should suffice for a nice little break game. And, I found a place in Final Fantasy 5, where the monsters are really easy, and give out 4 or 8 AP each time (depending on how many you fight). I've gained about 6 or 7 job levels in about a half hour's time. So in other words, it's not as boring, because I'm developing my characters faster.

I played a bit of the Japanese Outbreak the other day; It's more hilarious than anything. I was assaulting zombies with my trained RVD kicks while the token black guy was running in circles and screaming "Oh my ga! What should I do?"

Quest is a pretty good fucking game on NES I think. I think it's number 4. It's really fun to steal from the blind people. :(

Ah, just play some shadowrun or legend of mana.

OR simcity. That was THE game for SNES back in the day.

No more RPGs. Right now, I have all the RPGs I'm interested in, and I can only play one at a time (they're so time-consuming and full of story, that I'll end up losing my place if I play multiple ones at a time).

Also, Legend of Mana's a PSX game.

SECRET OF MANA THEN >:

SO PLAY SIMCITY AND GIVE YOUR LITTE CITY A GOOD TASTE OF JAMES. >:

EDIT: I remember my old lazy person trick of turning it on auto budget and leaving my SNES on all day while I was at school.
I do this for weeks on end and accumulted millions. This one city me and my cousin worked on was well into the year 5000 or something thanks to this. That game was so much more complicated than it let on.

Sim City 2000 was the WORST PORT EVER on any system in perpetum throughout the galaxy. :(

I was never really a big fan of the Sim games. But the SNES version of Sim City was pretty fun (because of the money cheat, which I needed).

Last time I tried to give my city a taste of James, I got arrested for indecent exposure.
