I don't think there is a specific term.

You could call it 'ohgodnottheupydownyboxphobia'

Cleithrophobia or Cleisiophobia- Fear of being locked in an enclosed place

That's the best I know. =(

I have a mild phobia about elevators too.

But it isn't so bad now that I learned that they are held by multiple cables, not just one, so if something were to happen to one of the cables (which is pretty unlikely) you'd still have at least 30 holding the elevator up.

And even if the elevator plummeted uncontrollably, you would still be okay, because elevator shafts now have a safety catch that will stop a plummeting elevator from smashing you to smithereens.

No don't you feel better? :)

Seems a lot of people don't know:

The general conclusion was that it was claustrophobia.

really. :|

i'm not so much afraid that they are going to drop. there's more fear in the possibility of the fucker stopping and being trapped in a box with people i don't know, or like...and then they start to smell and tell life stories and maybe exchange phone numbers or spit or something.

Not the ever playing elevator tunes? They always work, even during the middle of a rolling blackout, the elevator tunes play... driving me insane with the mind numbing ditty.
