My friend Baalzamon whas been trying to convince me to read some of the Forgotten Realms books about Drizzt, and I finally did over the last few weeks.

The writing is kinda simplistic, and there are a few areas in the various books where the paragraph structure is a bit disjointed and ideas don't carry through in a continuous flow. On the otherhand, it's a bit refreshing to read something by an author who doesn't waste a lot of space over-describing the colour of the sky for the 100th time. Overall, these books are pretty damn good.

I'm addicted to yet another never-ending series of books. :(

I'm addicted to the Salvatore stuff as well. Granted, sometimes he breaks the rule of "Show, don't tell", but the guy's marvelous at hooking one with his wordplay.

Besides, how can you not like someone who describes his own stories as, "Crouching dragon, hidden dark elf"?

Now, now, attitudes like that are what caused 8-Bit Theater to change from a kick-ass web comic into a money vacuum for Brian "Pay Me, Faggots!" Clevinger.

I also recently discovered these books. Which books have you read so far and which do you like most Chimp? Ive just read the Dark Elf Trilogy and the Icewind Dale Trilogy. So far, my favorite book is Exile...

The Legacy of the Drow series is the best one I've read so far. The Icewind Dale trilogy has more action, while the Dark Elf trilogy has much better writing and a deeper story.

Proto must have gotten beat up by one of those infamous Icewind Dale gangs that attend conventions. :(

Just let your guild know about it, Proto. You have every right to dress as an assassin.

I think the novelty would wear off if the DM kept sending 15th-level drow war parties to recapture his character.

I finished Paths of Darkness. It was good. :)

Now I'm reading Thousand Orcs. :O

I finished reading The Thousand Orcs in one day.

It was pretty good, but not his best work. For the most part, I thought the characters just whined about how they're starting to reach middle-age. Of course, the battle at the end was cool. :)

It gave me a couple ideas for mini-quests (not imitating the book, just some insights into the behaviour of certain monsters). The campaign I'm DM'ing right now is heading into frost giant territory. :O
