They are making a remake of the first X-Com game in 3D. The best thing is, its free!

First of all, they state right on the page that this was merely inspired by X-Com; therefore, it's not a remake, it's a rip-off.
Secondly, the engine being used is "a heavily modified version of iD's Quake2 engine". How lazy do you have to be to steal somebody else's engine and strip it down? (And yes, I know this is common practice, but still...)
Finally, as much as I enjoy strategy games (i.e., except for C&C:RA, not very much), this one sounds rather silly.

And Streets of Rage was a so-called FInal FIght Rip-off, yet it still is a fuckign great game.

Just about every FPS you can name has a modified version of an ID game engine.
