Resolved: If a thread has no purpose whatever beyond the attempted glorification of it's poster, it should be locked.

lock it up baby.
I think its prett easy to differentiate when someone actually has a point to make from some bizarre kind of pseudo-intellectual self aggrandisement.

I'm obviously not one of the people that you are talking about but isn't the whole idea of the site to make fun of someone that does things like "Look at me I'm an egghead"

Absolutely, but I think Once and Again has already positioned himself well enough to fulfill that need.
It's as if he'd made a post that said:
"I have Red Hair"
and then one that started
"My hair is red"
and then one that said
"Look! I am a person with red hair."
And
"How about my red hair?"

If we are going to do that, can we also treat people who post a link to an article and say thing like "look at this" without actually starting a discussion in this way?

I don't want to get all ruley, but I have to agree with you on that one. If you can't be bothered to cut n' paste the relevant section or whole article and have a title or intro sentence that inidcates your take, why bother at all?

I think the title line, "Looks like Bush might play the 9/11 card" is sufficient commentary to start a conversation.
Although come to think of it, if Mock can't be fucking bothered to at least bestir himself to cut n paste, I might as well start my own website!
Except that sounds like a lot of work.
Screw it.

Included in the title of this board is "news." I think posting news without any pontification is perfectly alright.
I also disagree with locking OAO's threads up. If they suck, if they are boring, then they will sink to the bottom of your screen very quickly.......

I wanted a serious critique of my ideas. I think Derrida would have a lot of fun with my point on applying deconstruction to itself.

If Derrida actually gave a shit about the ideas of 15 year olds.
Oh, wait, you meant the poster derrida. Naturally I assumed you meant the real one, since grandiose bullshit is your bag.

See, I just don't find that credible. I'll reveal my position and say I'm against locking your threads no matter how borish they may be, but the threads that got locked were just you showing off how marvelous you find yourself.

Isn't the real Derrida dead?

"Whatever. "
-spoken like a true teenager. You should have put 'I know you are, but what am I?' after it.

What did you expect me to say? I already told him that I wanted serious responces, and he doesn't believe me.

Snow day. In this city/town, 2 inches is enough to cancel.

We could have six feet of snow and radioactive werewolves with eye lazers and pitchforks roaming around and they still wouldn't cancel here. :(
